I think the signing of some of these scrubs is by design, though. Yzerman is building through the draft and guys like Chairot, Copp, Compher, Gus, Holl, etc. are just placeholders so we can actually ice a team. If they work out then great, they can stick around but if they stink, which they mostly do, then it’s not like they’ll be hard to move on from once prospects are NHL ready. It’s big picture stuff here lol.

Sucky results. I didnt get to see the final 7 minutes, but at least we played hard and looked every bit as good as Ottawa, if not better. The boys showed they wanted to win this one. Very disappointing result for this game and, likely, for the season.

They need to learn how to score greasy goals, especially against a goalie who is in the zone like Ulmark tonight.

And gust played 1 second less than ed tonight. That's unacceptable. Gus is useless on the pp but keeps getting pp time. The only thing I can think of is todd is playing the useless vets to show Steve how bad and useless they are. I truly hate the makeup of this team and Stevie is to blame. I am not worried about our future team that will be good but this team has too many awful players holding us back and that's on steve. If gus holl or tareseko are still on this team next year then some serious discussions need to happen.

It's obviously the refs fault this team is missing the playoffs for a 9th year in a row.

It's easier to cry about the refs then to admit the team is not good enough, and the manager hasn't done a good enough job building a better team.

So yeah...**** THE REFS! it is wasn't for them wed have at least 3 cups in the last 5 seasons

The way I see it is that a ref can single handedly decide the outcome of a game. If you disagree, well no more discussion, really.

Now, let's see. Compher gets hit to the head. Match penalty missed.

Rasmussen gets hit in the head. Match penalty missed.

Edvinsson gets tripped and high sticked, leads to goal. Penalty missed.

Seider gets called for a hit, game tied last minutes of the game. They score, game over.

I'm sure I'm missing some aswell. But these things were game deciding. Don't you agree? Yzerman can suck at his job, and I've been vocal to the fact. But the refs can absolutely still shaft the team from important points in a tight playoff race.

Both things can be true.

Is it a conspiracy against the Wings? Doubt it, it's probably an unlucky streak.

This game, yeah. Most games, not really. They are near bottom of the league in 5on5 GF.

Had to go and check this. There are two Red Wings data on this sheet, upper one is Lalonde games and lower highlighted is McLellan Red Wings.

They still struggle to score 5-on-5, but the xGoals For is phenomenally higher, almost Top10 numbers at NHL. So this has been big improvement (from 2,07 NHL-worst numbers to 2.60 level), but usually, you have to build the structure first (the "expected" will happen), and the real goals come later on.

Also, this 25-game rollin average on 5-on-5 corsi tells clearly, how the team is steadily improving. Yes we know, we are losing games on special teams or goaltending. But the big picture is improving, and I think the raising level of youth and their development makes this. Probably too late for this season.

Larkin and DeBrincat are the only players in their prime, and Seider, Raymond, Kasper, Edvinsson, Johansson, Söderblom and Berggren are doing the heavy lifting. They also tried to add Mazur, but that ended unfortunately. This is the right direction. More improving kids, less placeholders, year-by-year.

It wasn't just shots last night. The wings forced a ton of turnovers and had at least 15 shots in prime scoring areas.

Ullmark had at least 8 legitimate saves that likely were goals on any night. Oddly enough he should have saved Larkins goal.

Bad comparison. Nobody is saying they’re McDavid or Doughty clones because those two were top tier, can’t miss prospects. McDavid and Doughty were top 2 picks and both played in the NHL the year they were drafted. Yzerman has never had a top 3 pick, which are usually the only guys who play in the NHL the same year they’re drafted. Yzerman himself is the last 18 year old Red Wing who came in and made an immediate impact.

So because Yzerman is not drafting these sure fire, blue chip prospects, because they’re not available at our draft slot, I’m ok playing the waiting game for these young players to develop into NHL players (usually at least 3 years from their draft).
