Byfield has all skills necessary for him to be a dominant player at this tournament and have a successful NHL career. I've coached players who have the total package but can't quite put it together. There's an intangible barrier that some surpass and others... well are less successful. I have found that confidence is a key antidote to that barrier. If Byfield has a few good early shifts and builds confidence, he could well have a dominating tournament.I actually don’t agree with your assessment that it’s his skill set that’s the problem. I can see the guy dangle people and he does it well. That between the legs goal he scored at the Hlinka/Gretzky was elite.
I feel like the problem is something else that I can’t quite put my finger on. Issues with hockey sense or competitive drive are both good candidates.
