I know lots on the oilers board had Dach top 3, personally to my eye he had obvious first overall talent and wasn’t shocked he went 3rd. Chicago did their homework
I agree and I also thought he was just as good as Hughes and Kakko, I loved him right from when he was drafted in the WHL. Just because the consensus independent companies weren’t as high on him doesn’t mean he wasn’t as good as those two guys. He had a solid rookie season imo.

Zegras already has gotten the universal overrating treatment after last WJC, following in the footsteps as such stars as Poehling, Mittelstadt, Keller, and Milano.

I wonder if this will be the year where we see it happen to the same guy twice.
Sanderson is likely to get some heavy plugging this year, Zegras is a given.

agreed.. the only line we can be sure of now is the Cozens, Dach line as the #1 line. They should be able to roll 4 lines with the depth they have what ever line goes out there is going to seriously test the depth of whoever matches up against them.

I am excited to see Newhook when he gets on track... He went from lockdown skating with a couple players to lockdown when he got to Canada, then skating with a couple of players to full 14 day lockdown to two intersquad games.. He was touted by some around the NCAA this year as the best player in the NCAA..
The Dach line should set the stage and I also have no doubt the line with Alex Newhook and Dylan Holloway will equally intimidate and play havoc with opposing coaching staff.
Buckle up!

I'm sure some of what they say is shown in the U.S. - as the try and sell the WJR's south of the border. You can't fault them for trying to build hype.
Hype they do well, sickening at times to watch their fawning over them but at least it helps a guy despise their team even more ( and you wouldn't think that's humanly possible)

Finland, Russia, Sweden, Czechs, who the hell are they? TSN has never heard of them.

What did they say that was so bad? Do you have the clip?

It's not one thing, it's their whole hyping and focus on the U.S team after Canada talk is done, I am sure you must have noticed this getting worse and worse the last decade. every year they push the envelope a little more.

Sometimes you think you must be watching an American broadcast.

TBH, I don't watch TSN prior to the tournament. I just watch clips off the TSN website. It saves time and I can avoid clips I'm not interested in.

As Button said, there's only so much TSN can talk about for the next 4 days. They want to build hype, tension, and excitement. That can't do that without talking about / building up other teams.

Now kiddies! play nice. So what if TSN wants to hype the U.S. It's all about the benjamins baby. "and how do you sell an arms race when the only asshole you got to run against is yourself? (name the movie I stole that line from and win extra points)

if all you want is TSN Hockey Canada stuff, ignore TSN on the idiotbox and youtube your desired content. problem solved. Bob's your uncle.

Well, it's the 14th, isn't it about time tsn starts dolling up the good ol boys from the U.S with their annual hype machine and telling us how wonderful they are?

I mean, it's their 2nd favorite team and all. I would say by the 23rd I will have heard all I ever want to hear about Trevor Zegras and a few others.

I imagine it will be Caufield, since he's a Montreal pick. Maybe Sanderson since he's an Ottawa pick and he grew up in Alberta. TSN isn't high on the American team this year, big into hyping up this version of Canada. It's obviously unrelated but US seems to do better when not all that hyped up. TSN is, perhaps not shockingly, not dwelling on the big question marks with Canada all that much this year. Hoping for a 2005ish vibe I imagine despite how different the situation is for a variety of reasons.

If you think the English Canadian media has hard-on for caufield, RDS literally bought the NCAA rights just to show Wisconsin games, and in true RDS fashion they chewed him out when he had his first pointless game of the season.

Its really too bad so many of USA's best players are missing. Was excited to watch Bordeleau and Robertson in particular. Bordeleau has been amazing so far this year thats a bigger loss than most people realize in my opinion.

Whats wrong with TSN hyping good players in the US exactly?

It is all about building hype to the big match ups anyways. They want to talk about the Americans, Russians and Swedes to build up to the inevitable matchups against those teams that Canada will have. End of the day TSN could make 100 video packages on the US and it wouldn't matter on the ice.

Hm? I can't recall Poehling and Mittelstadt getting overrated after the WJC, maybe I wasn't paying attention...

Outside of Keller, Zegras is easily the best/biggest talent of those guys you listed and any hype Keller received was deserved. Guy put up 65 points as an undersized rookie in the NHL and led his team in scoring both that year and the following year and now in his 3rd season he was 1 point behind Schmaltz for the points lead on Arizona again (and led the team in playoff scoring). Not really his fault that he's playing on an extremely offensively challenged team.

Milano may have gotten a bit of hype but to me that had more to do with his skill and flair and not so much his NHL future.

It's their focus on the whole team that irks me, not just a few of their players.

I don't want all Canada stuff at all. I just don't want them having a second fave team, which they have been steadily drifting towards at each successive tournament.

It would have been nice to watch the best player in the tournament, Lafreniere play for Canada too. It is what it is. He won’t be there either.

Keller followed up his WJC with a 65 point rookie season...

Poehling suddenly got a lot of talk about his newfound offensive potential, and on this website and others absolutely shot up prospect rankings.

Mittelstadt was the most overrated of all. Despite his completely unspectacular college season, he entered the next year as a Calder favourite. He was ranked ahead of Pettersson by many.

Oh really it happens every year? I had no idea..... Wait I even heard that Kakko and Hughes may not even be coming... Can you confirm?...

He isn't going?!...

Now that I have finished with my sarcastic responses. These two players I pointed out very recently pulled out. I personally want to see all of every countries best players at this tournament as the NHL doesn't start at the earliest January 13th.

I want everyone's best players to be there so there are no excuses. Certain posters have been hyping this team USA group as the best of its age group any country has produced. So at the very least if Lafreniere and Hughes both weren't going I was hoping it could be an equal trade off. I also just want to see the best players play.
