Here's some other coaching situations to keep an eye on ...
Providence and Harvard — Again, no insider information, I only put this here because
Nate Leaman at Providence and
Ted Donato at Harvard have been involved in a lot of international tournaments for the U.S. in recent years, and rubbing shoulders with NHL types, and they may be lured out of college hockey. Leaman's name always comes up in such things, and it's natural for Donato, who has an extensive NHL past as a player before leaping into college coaching at his alma mater.
Boston University — It's no secret that I thought there were better candidates when
Albie O'Connell was hired in the first place, in 2018. And as of midseason, amid a fourth lackluster season, BU fans were ready to finally agree. Then the Terriers went on a tremendous second-half run, and are 19-12-3 and on the NCAA Tournament bubble. Something changed, and I don't think it was all just players coming back from injury. Jay Pandolfo was brought in last offseason to be an assistant, and people presumed he's been a head coach in waiting. Probably not now. Whatever they're doing together now is working.
