Moverare debut tonight!

Excited for him...he's def. earned it. Doesn't get a lot of fanfare but as steady as steady can be. Maatta's skating is head and shoudlers better though and that's really Moverare's weakness, we'll see how he does in a game with better flow and higher speed---his IQ will pay dividends but people attacking him w/speed is gonna be the challenge. Go kid!

I wish they would have scrapped the Olympics, just seems ridiculous to go over there and risk the 3 week quarantine in a Beijing hotel for a tournament that will be a crappier version of the WC's. But a guy like Faber, who has a chance (if things develop right) to maybe be in contention for a best vs. best spot down the road can't really turn this down.

Was a nice interview, Blake was pretty transparent, nothing hardcore fans don't necessarily already know, but still a good pod.

I did like what they said re: Grans towards the end, with how his development was mapped out down to even having a few days off to work with the skills coaches since he missed camp, but a lot of their plans went out the window with the staffing situations--but it was a nice window into how things are individualized.

I liked hearing the plan they had in mind with Grans, and can appreciate the challenges with trying to implement it. Though again, I have my concerns. Namely:
- The statement "Kaliyev needs to be in our top-6 in the next year or two." While it suggests it's a plan, means that, barring major changes in circumstances, it's a long shot to see a prospect regularly in the top-6.
- If they are in the same position now as they are near the trade deadline, they are going to go for the playoffs. While yes, that's a safe assumption to make, that means trying to pull in more vets, and thus likely prospects on the way out.

Long and short of it, nothing surprising, and nothing to cause for alarm, but also don't feel very reassured.

Some say he moves rarely ie a pylon (which is why his nickname is moverare) .. i heard high IQ (I think Yanetti said highest IQ in draft class), not the greatest skating ability

His speed is rough. His agility is very good, you'd think he's two different players if you saw him in the circles area in front of his own net vs. anywhere else on the rink. IT's his tragic weakness that keeps him from being more otherwise his game is really strong, he's very smart and can make great passes and sneaky shots.

Think Bjornfot fat guy version, much bigger, slower.

Moverare's movement is very controlled, he isn't fast but he reads plays well enough that he knows where he needs to be and when and how to get there defensively or make clean passes. We will see if that carries through to the NHL but ive been wanting to see him get a chance for a while, he's been one of if not my favorite prospect for a few years

Jacob Moverare at eliteprospects.com

A big and strong defenseman. Moverare is a very competitive player capable of logging big minutes and playing a simple and smart game. Has good hockey sense and decent offensive tools, but is more likely to develop into a solid stay-at-home defenseman at the next level. Nice timing in his physical game, fine positioning in most situations and a good character. Skating is okay, although his acceleration could use some improvement. (EP 2016)

Something tells me somebody want's to see Moverare play against NHL talent before they finalize a deal.

Blake was on Mayor's Manor recently, and it was interesting to hear him talk about how they've planned to give players 2-3 games at a time at the NHL level and even at the AHL level. They intersperse these stints with 1-on-1 development staff work, which is cool to hear. He also mentioned that injuries and COVID19 have basically thrown all of those plans into a blender, but it could be that this is just a rotation stint for Moverare.

He mentioned that the plan with Grans was to give him 2 games in the AHL and then let him rest and work 1-on-1 with dev staff for 2 games and go through that cycle multiple times before he was a full-time regular. Grans basically blew past that schedule to be a big-time contributor at the AHL level faster than they thought, which is great.

Blake basically said while it doesn’t not ever happen, prospects are rarely given first line spots.

They still have to cycle through contracts, and added Danault and Arvidsson for nothing. Yeah, not a lot of spots for youth. 1 wing spot for next year, assuming Kempe, Iafallo, and Arvidsson are here.

And that doesn't necessarily mean they'll bring anyone in at the deadline. They could just keep their UFA's. Could; I mean will if they're in the mix. Or, somehow had another guy for picks like Arvidsson. Or, of course, always a larger move is possible. Probably not likely though.

We're complaining about the Kings having too many options. There's nowhere to put more vets.

Enjoyed the Blake interview…he’s really grown on me as a GM in last couple years. You can tell his confidence has greatly increased over the years as it should.

DB asked him a stupid question though, something like ‘your contract is expiring after this year, do you want to stay with the Kings?’ I mean wtf is he going to say, NO? dumb…

And he is balls on accurate....I went through it, there was something like 18 out of 186 spots, something like that, for guys 22-23 and under

False equivalency, how many of those guys are top 10 picks from the last few drafts? Most. It’s why people are pushing for Turcotte and Byfield. And not Fagemo/JAD/Thomas.

And it isn't a question of them just being on the roster, its if they are put in positions to work on their strengths as well as weaknesses.

Its better for all of the high picks to be playing with other skilled players in offensive roles in the AHL than it is to get spot duty in the NHL playing a small role not suited for their development.

I am a firm believer that developing the strengths of skilled players is far more important than working on their two-way weaknesses.

Let's find out

Here was the original list....so 18...and 10 of them were top 10 picks, so slightly over half.....not really a false equivalency, considering the past few drafts there were 30 players taken in the top 10, 8 F in 2020, 7 in 2019, 6 in 2021, 6 in 2019 etc, still not really a false equivalency, but love the post.
