Lucic had a good regular season and Kopi one of his best. Everyone and their blind mums could see he wouldn’t resign on the cheap tho. Except Dean I guess.

Just terrible asset management plain and simple. He tried to resign him too. Didn't he throw out a deal like 4.2 mil over 8 years or something really low so it fit our non existing cap space?

I think most would give him a longer leash given how young he is. I think Durzi is getting that benefit right now

And he's taking advantage of it. You can see he's getting better with each game. It's been trial by fire with him when you look at the teams he's had to face. Not a lot of bottom feeder for him to get his feet wet in the first 12 games. After Doughty, he's the best scoring dman we have, especially on the pp.

The Kings have played a lot of tough opponents recently.

With those games behind them, the Kings have one of the easiest schedules in the league from here on out. For example, the Kings haven't played the Kraken yet.

TEAMSTRENGTH OF REMAINING SCHEDULE
Nashville1.131
SJ1.131
Vancouver1.122
Edmonton1.122
Minnesota1.121
Anaheim1.118
Seattle1.116
AZ1.109
Chicago1.109
Dallas1.109
Winnipeg1.103
Vegas1.1
Los Angeles1.092
Calgary1.089
St. Louis1.082
Colorado1.078

So the Kings have positioned themselves relatively well moving forward. A lot of teams in front them in the WC playoff race have more difficult schedules.

Honestly, do you think a .1 difference over the first 30 games that will change every night actually means something?

I reject that it is a binary choice. Get Doughty back who has only played 11 of 30 games so far & swap Moore or Grundstrom for Byfield & Kings should see an improvement in play, even with Brown playing with Kopi.

So, given that you find this to be encouraging, how would you proceed the rest of the year?

Would you trade prospects to hope to get into the playoffs?

Would you not change anything and proceed as-is and hope to make the playoffs?

I'm the resident pessimest lately and we have played most of the league-leading teams twice already.

Yeah it means something but kings still have to put up. Frankly Im more terrified of Arizona than almost anyone else, Kings have that shitty habit still.

It always eventually becomes a choice at one point or another. What if Brown still wants to play when he's 40 years old? Do you sign him and "keep being respectful to your vets" and give him what he wants?

And what's this "swap Moore or Grundstrom for Byfield" nonsense? Shouldn't you keep Byfield kept in the AHL or benched and let those two play out of "respect" for their experience? What message are you sending them?

In what order do you expect the following players back? And when?

1. Byfield ?

Danault
Athanasiou

Edler
Walker
Doughty

Petersen

I think you make long term hockey deals, and if they involve a prospect so be it.

I don't think you see Edler back at all, and Walker not til next season.

AA should only be back to showcase him for a trade.

Byfield, Doughty, Danault next week, AA probably same
Edler much later if at all, never heard much more about his injury but wouldn't be shocked if he hung them up, it was gnarly
Walker next year.

Because of the change with rosters/games, I expect Danault back as soon as the next game. I suspect Byfield will be on the NHL roster by the 2nd week in January at the latest, but likely before. AA will be back as well but I'm not sure what happens with him. He could play on line #2, he could be scratched, or he could be traded. Difficult to say.

Walker won't play this year. Edler, well it would be late March at the earliest.

10 days or less
Doughty

Danault

Athanasiou 3-4 weeks?
Edler - Feburary?

Walker - Out for the year.

Byfield- Depends on injuries or if he plays instead of Kupari. Kopi-Danault-Lizotte are not coming out of the lineup.

Wait & see. Is the team in the wildcard race at the deadline? Did they fall off. Then make moves to position the team moving forward.

Doughty, Roy, Walker, Durzi, Clarke all possible RD for next year. Not all are going to play RD. Figure out which D are being kept & which are being moved. Deal with that before next season. Same with forwards. Trim down the roster.

Rentals: if the Kings are in the wildcard race & they can pick up a piece for the future, do it. Example trade & sign for someone like Forsberg. Wouldn't give up assets for a rental that walks. Not a year they're fighting for the cup. Doesn't mean they can't build for the future.

Brown's contract is up after the year. He probably retires & the issue fixes itself. If he wants to sign for cheap & fight for a depth role, that's up to him.

Unless you are putting Byfield on Kopi's wing, Brown doesn't impact where Byfield plays.

Are Moore & Grundstrom former captains of the 2 cups in franchise history? They are bottom 6 players. Someone is getting bumped when Byfield is ready. Maybe trade or injuries will change who is moved.

Still only four points behind a playoff spot! Despite all the injuries. Not bad. Something must be working ok and be worth building on for THIS season.

I didn't insult him, and I literally drew the line between his two dots,

Put Kaliyev our best sniper, on the PP two straight minutes because that's what Ovechkin does....

Tell me, what does that sound like to you, that he thinks Kaliyev is Ovechkin light, or.....what other conclusion is there?

And yes, it's absolutely batshit crazy to put a kid who hasn't played a full year pro, 82 games, out there for 2 straight minutes, because he doesn't have the conditioning for it, or the skating for it, this isn't rocket science.
Alright, you are intent at insulting me and my suggestion because you don't agree...and you are incapable of disagreeing without trying to humiliate me.

I explained that I watched the Caps PP and Ovechkin especially very carefully...Ovechkin on PP does very little physical exertion...which makes sense is best for his team...he hangs near the offensive blue line and in his "office" almost exclusively...and often for the full 2 minutes...this makes sense because (1) he is his team's best sniper and (2) PP is when offense, his specialty, is most potent.

I made the suggestion that since the Kings PP is very ineffective and anemic...the Kings have a player that evaluators and experts agree has a world-class elite shot and passing abililty...why not use him the way the Caps use Ovechkin on the PP...for the full two minutes and conserving energy at the blue line and in Kaliyev's office...with the team feeding his world class shot and when it's not there he can use his excellent passing ability (i.e., his world class offensive skills he has shown at every level). Kaliyev is fully capable of playing the PP for the full two minutes, esp since he plays 4th line minutes otherwise...he is the Kings best offensive weapon.. the Kings need his sniping and passing. I asked how could that make their PP any worse than it is. And that might open up lanes and possibilities for the other PP players.

It seems the best use of the kid's elite skills that the Kings were smart enough to choose at 33 in the draft (I wanted them to choose him at 22 that year).
Where do you think he would go in a 2019 redraft? You don't think that team drafting him wouldn't use his elite skills on the PP like Caps use Ovechkin?

PS I never said nor intimated that Kaliyev = Ovechkin. I merely say he has the same kind of elite skills for his team that Ovechkin brings to his (obviously Ovechkin's are significantly better developed and more experienced, I am amazed and insulted that I have to put this obvious fact in writing at this level of discussion).
To me it is using the resources you have to highest level you can.
I also stated I thought the Kings would do similarly with Kovalchuk and was amazed they did not.

Clarke is probably not ready for next season. Trading for Forsberg is one way to try to avoid Kopitar being a minus player. Danault and Arvy, were they supposed to fix that? Also the one thing that separates Kings from, say Rangers in that there is no ace winger. Wait and wait or go all in? Most fans rely on the former.

You're dealing with someone being intentionally obtuse and it's such a frustrating position to take on our own damn forum. We all know what you meant.

Would be a shame to have Edler miss out on 1000 games played being so close.

Turcotte should only get a cup of coffee in the nhl and that’s it. He can’t seem to stay healthy more than 2 months in the AHL. And his game isn’t reliant on shiftiness and avoiding physical play. He needs to get bigger.

I would like to see Kaliyev with Kopitar and Vilardi with Iaffalo and Danault to cover his defensive deficiencies.
