People said the Kings were playing meaningful games till the final month / month and a half last season. Probably because they were within striking distance of the four seed.

But after a 6 game winning streak in February, they won two games in a row just once. That came in games 51 and 52, followed by a 5 game losing streak to close out the season.

Just hanging around because the division sucks isn’t improvement. I think the bar is 80 points at a minimum. Last season they projected to about 72 points. Which was worse than the previous year, where they played at about a 75 point pace. Coming in 4/5/6th place with less than 80 points won’t be an improvement.

They certainly believe in Petersen with that contract. That's the problem with him not being particularly young, while inexperienced, and a step away from being able to leave.

Do you wait to see how he does in a contract year, or do you put it all on him by signing him early, and likely making him untradeable(minus a highly paid backup coming the other way) if he's not a real 1G?

It's your show now Cal.

Blake should definitely be in the hotseat if there is not a big improvement from last year.
Blake has done a good job assembling the team structure. Still has a few spots he needs to fix up like a long term Edler. The "big improvement" isn't going to come until the kids start hitting. that might not be this year or even next. Rebuilds take time.

Should he? What else should Blake have done? He went out and got Arvidsson and Danault. He signed Edler. He filled the glaring holes this team had last season. I think Cal might be an overpayment at $5 million next season, but it wouldn't necessarily surprise me if he's underpaid by the end of the deal when the Kings are hopefully a contender again.

Should have been $4 or, at most, $4.5 over four years. Interesting overpayment.

He's going to be 30 when the contract ends. Don't need a goalie locked up for that long. 3 years is good.

You're overpaying because you're buying UFA years, and you don't know what your options might be later. Or, you're not a fan of what your options might be.

I think we paid a higher AAV for Cal in exchange for less years and therefore lower risk given the voodoo that is goaltending.

I will say that it seems the entire league is pretty gung-ho about the cap going up eventually with all these contract AAVs...

I don't disagree that we should start seeing some results, but I don't ownership is holding him to the fire yet. A complete disaster may do that, but if it's marginal improvements, I think he will be safe.

As of this moment, there are ZERO listings for Kings games on Bally. However, there IS one listing for a Ducks/Sharks game next week on Bally. It's looking grim!

According to this, September's only exhibition game televised will be the one on TNT (Frozen Fury???). Meanwhile, all the October exhibition (pre-season) games WILL be televised..... if this calendar is any indication..... Los Angeles Kings Schedule

Cal’s contract should be ok, but CF doesn’t show whether there is any trade/movement protection included. He’s getting bonus money, $3M next year and $4M the year after. Next year, the Kings will pay Quick and Cal $6.5M in real salary at a $10.8M cap hit. My guess is that they will look to replace Quick in 2 years with a cheaper backup.

That's a good deal considering what the going rate for starters is. It's 3 years, not 5 or 7 like some of the others have gotten. He's better than most, and once they finishing putting a better defense in front of him, he'll do fine. Nobody saw more breakaways and 2 on 1's than he did.

100% agree. I think I was okay giving them some rope for last year (actually I wasn't, looking at my posts at the time I was pissed that we actually literally regressed) since it was such a weird year, but I'd say if they don't get north of 85 points, heads need to roll. I'd be shooting for 90+ as a metric for growth/success.

Term is good, AAV is high for Peterson, who is not very proven. I hope the Kings draft a goalie for the future because other than Peterson our goalie prospects are not very promising.

They reportedly tried to go after Wallsteadt and didn't get it done...can imagine that's one of their focuses this year and next.

Villalta impressed at the rookie tourney.
I am very high on Parik . I think the best is yet to come with him

I think that is well known that they tried to trade up and Minny had a better offer for that pick

Apparently Edmonton didn't want to drop too far, which is why they wouldn't trade with the Kings. You have to wonder if they would have moved for the Kings early 2nd that was traded for Arvy.

Not a good year for goalies in the 2022 draft -- at least early on. Canadian Tyler Brennan seems to be the top ranked goalie at this point in time -- later part of first round range. Again, it's way early so this can (& likely will) change a lot. Assuming the Kings end up around mid first round pick range, this could be a good spot with our need at G.

Goalies are voodoo.

Just look at Gibson. Stellar start to his career and but then the last couple years don't seem so good.
