It never ceases to amaze me that people dunk on Brown while overlooking the fact he was the Kings top goal scorer last season.

Really amazing.

Same. It also never ceases to amaze me that posters can say Brown floated for most of the year, imply the coach was turning a blind eye to it all. If Brown was as bad as is being suggested he'd be benched, and most certainly would be getting bought out just so he's not around the team with such a piss poor attitude and effort. Blake and McLellan aren't going to risk setting up the huge wave of kids coming into the team with a bad influence of that scale just so Brown can have some swan song.

Scott Wheeler has an article up on The Athletic, Ranking the top 20 Calder Trophy candidates for the 2021-22 NHL season. A few Kings make the list, with Byfield at 6th, Tkachyov at 15th, and Kaliyev as one of 12 honorable mentions.

About Byfield, he writes:
Byfield’s a wild card in this field, because Anze Kopitar and now Phillip Danault are locked in down the middle for the next three years, and the Kings have good options in Blake Lizotte and Gabe Vilardi (though both of them can also play the wing). But Byfield’s development has to be the focus and supersede the priorities, frankly, for each of those players. This year, that should probably mean trial by fire as the third-line center and regular usage on the man advantage. If he gets that, the talent could take over. More time in the AHL — and even an appearance at the world juniors — aren’t completely out of the question but he should get an opportunity to stick.

For Tkachyov he says
Tkachyov’s an anomaly in age (he’ll be 26 on Oct. 5) and draft status. And it wasn’t for lack of exposure. He was a talked-about prospect in Russia growing up and spent two productive seasons in the QMJHL when he was repeatedly passed over (including after a trip to the Memorial Cup). Now, after five full seasons in the KHL (which included a rookie of the year award and two all-star appearances), he’s earned his NHL opportunity. I don’t expect him to light it up, and his contract is waiver exempt so the AHL isn’t out of the question, but he’s a slick, motivated, talented, high-energy player who had suitors and didn’t sign a one-year deal to come over here and sit in the minors.

Isn't he? The way I read it that's certainly what it implies.

I don't think so?

He's just mentioning that LA has several other centers available behind Kopitar and Danault who are already with the Kings.

My point is the use of the word "good." It's debatable if Lizotte should even have been retained, let alone a good option over playing Byfield.

Has it been announced anywhere the number of king player not vaccinated ?

Sounds like it's likely all of them.

How did the NHL get such a high number of vaccinated players?

Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty said it wasn’t exactly a hot topic of discussion in his team’s dressing room.

“We don’t really talk about it too much,” he said. “Everyone kind of just says, ‘Yeah, I’m going to get vaccinated.’ And there were a few guys at the end of the season that were like, ‘Ah, I’m not really sure if I want to get it.’ And we weren’t really trying to convince each other one way or the other. But then I think when the NHL released that statement that you lose pay (for missing games because of a positive test) and stuff like that, that kind of changed some guys’ minds.”

“The rules we had last year were pretty strict,” Doughty said. “And to be honest, besides playing hockey, it wasn’t that fun because we had all these rules in place where we couldn’t hang out off the ice and go to restaurants, stuff like that. It was a long year because of those things. Hopefully getting vaccinated enables us to do these types of things as a team.”

Frankly it’s none of our business.
well you may or may not be right about that from a legal point of view. There happens to be many teams announcing there numbers. As long as names are not announced with the number I honestly have no issues with it. The nhl it self has announced there between 97 % and 98% vaccinated which is the highest % out of the major sports.

Franchise. Is. Cursed.

Isn't making the team anyway, but that's not cursed. Career ending injury in a rookie tournament? Now we're talking.

Once again, contracts matter.

But I think you're reading it wrong anyway. I think you're so invested in Lizotte not being on the team that you're taking good to an extreme. They wouldn't even have the same role on the team. Lizotte doesn't play the PP. Vilardi would be the alternative to Byfield at C.

If Lizotte, for whatever reason, does his limited job really well in camp, it has pretty much nothing to do with Byfield's short term destiny. Maybe JAD's though.

It gets boring harping on it, but with a 1 way deal, Lizotte has to lose his spot. Either someone for that 4th line role plays much better than him, or he completely crashes in camp. A spot that, much to our chagrins, he has won and earned over the last couple years. That's why they still ended up re-signing him, even though they likely could've easily let him go.

Apparently you weren't paying attention last year.

So cursed he didn't even make it to the rookie tourney!

I thought he was a long shot to make the squad anyway but Clarke is special, he could have rung up this tourney and showed up for the start of camp with some confidence but now has neither due to mystery illness. Just the latest in a long line of weirdass prospect misfortune, like Turcotte's mono, flu, knee, Byfield's foot and now upper body, Kupari's ACL, Madden's collarbone, Nousiainen out for months, Thomas' shoulders...hell we're just lucky Kaliyev is built like a brick shithouse but maybe his adamantium skeleton seizes up next, or someone finds his picture of dorian grey.

Yannetti thinks he at least had a chance to stick around after camp:

The wait to see how defenseman Brandt Clarke fares against next-level competition will take a little longer. Clarke, the Kings’ first-round draft choice (No. 8 overall) in July, missed the rookie tournament because of illness and did not make the trip to Arizona.

“Mono. Just bad luck,” Yannetti said. “Watching him the whole year, and then in development camp and watching some of the things he was doing, I’m not saying he would have made the team. I think he would have pushed.

“I would not have been surprised had he played two or three games or was kept a week to 10 days into the season. His level of hockey was that good. I think he would have come here and stood out. Similar to what (Bowen) Byram (of Colorado) is on the ice and when Drysdale is on the ice. I think Clarke would have been similar to the way he stood out.”

Kings' Alex Turcotte shows off 'rare' skill in prospects tournament, and a Brandt Clarke update
