Kings need another stay at home tough D man, not another soft puck mover.

Edler and Maata are UFA's - these are the only NHL D under contract for next season.

Doughty-Anderson
Bjornfot-Roy
Walker-Clague

If Clague keeps playing well, Walker could be trade bait so the Kings could add a tough complimentary D to play on the 3rd pair. Then Strand or Durzi could be the #7.

OR the Kings give Strand at shot at the third pair with Walker and Clague is the healthy scratch.

I read it as a late first round pick plus two B tier prospects (one AHL, one juniors) for a #2/3 defenseman.

True. We have plenty of B tier prospects + NHL players that we can trade. Adding a 1st should net us a decent player.

1st - AHL player + Grundstrom returned a top 3 40pt D-man.

Yeah, when he was 21 and hadn't played a game yet. Now he's played 87 with 25pts. Less potential today. More real flaws.

And Muzzin was 30 with 1 year left. Probably not the kind of guy people want on this team now.

As much as I love Clifford, there is no room for him.

Vilardi needs to get his timing and confidence back. Maybe even conditioning, too. So I am good with him getting time in the AHL.

And I am ok with moving the lines around during the season a bit to see which line combos work and which ones don't. It's a long season and injuries happen. I don't want to have an injury in the playoffs (if we make it) and gamble on an unknown combo when there is no time to figure something out if it doesn't work.

These were the lines at practice today:

Arvidsson – Kopitar – Brown
Iafallo – Danault – Athanasiou
Kempe – Kupari – Moore
Lemieux – Lizotte – Kaliyev
Andersson, Grundstrom

Edler – Roy
Bjornfot – Anderson
Maatta – Clague

Strand
Quick / Petersen

What an insult to Grundstrom. Dude is playing the best hockey of his career and was one of the teams best three forwards in each game on the road trip.

Other than Brown, who isn't going anywhere, and it's easier to just accept that, who should Grundstrom be in for? Kaliyev would be the one he'd replace.

Grundstrom is what he is. An 11th-13th forward type. In sometimes, out sometimes. Nature of the beast.

In Covid protocol times it’s good to have options. Grundstrom and Andersson likely matchup against different teams better than Kaliyev. I think Hoven talked about this in his podcast.

The Kempe-Kupari-Moore line could be something really nice! There’s speed, skill, speed, forechecking and speed lol

Trevor Moore, who has had a poor start to this season

If we keep staying around the playoff hunt near the trade deadline, what are your guys' thoughts on acquiring Gostisbehere? He has 12 points in 15 games, is only a -1 on an terrible coyotes team, and has $4.5 million cap hit until next season. He has been their best defenseman.

Fits the offensive D we lack (especially with Walker out for the season) and has turned his game around considerably.
Why acquire Ghost? We don't need him. We have PMD. We have several of them. There IS a need for a physical, SAH defenseman, which Blake should look to acquire and make our defense tougher and more physical. We are fine on mobile defensemen. We could also add grit to our bottom 6.

The Kings have zero goals from every defenseman on the roster not named Doughty.

I think the Kings are tied with the Islanders in having the lowest scoring blueline in the NHL.

klindberg could be available if the stars drop lower in the rankings. its just gonna take a lot of money to resign him.

giordano might be another target.

I love Brown and will always cherish him for everything he did for this team but I’m going to flip my lid if he’s back next year. This season has to be the last one the Kings pay him to play hockey.
