I'm unhappy about letting Perron walk over that amount of term/money. However, I fully agree that this means Army intends to extend ROR and Kyrou. And I do like that.I think Joe's nailing it. DA's in a corner and has to make tough decisions knowing that the captain and the two kid stars need to be Blues for a VERY long time to come, and that takes big money.
Even if DP57's contract is a 2 year one, one of those years is one where Kyrou is likely 3x more expensive than he is now. The reality is that we're going to need Neighbours, Bolduc, and Mikkola to take big steps to keep this window open.
I can see the hesitancy with 2023-24's cap situation looking murky after those two players are extended, but with cheaper talent in Neighbours, Bolduc, and Hofer knocking on the door, it seems like they should still have plenty of wiggle room cap wise to fill out the roster even with Perron on board.I'm unhappy about letting Perron walk over that amount of term/money. However, I fully agree that this means Army intends to extend ROR and Kyrou. And I do like that.
I think that we could have accomplished that goal AND signed Perron to this deal, but I understand not being confident about being able to do so.
It sucks that we lost Perron. He was true Blue. Loved him. And we are gonna have real cap crunch next year.I looks to me like it came down to Leddy or Perron and they think the internal depth options to replace Perron are better than the options to replace Leddy
We don’t have to trade Tarasenko. Vegas needed cap space to be compliant. There’s a big difference there.Market being flooded with talent has probably hurt Tarasenko's trade value. Why give up assets for Tarasenko, when you can get Pacioretty for free.
It's happening. Not a question of if, but when: 2022 or 2023 offseason?Looks like someone on Wikipedia knows something

Sure, that's why we didn't trade Tarasenko, but if Army wanted to move him to keep Perron, that's why he didn't get an offer he wanted because buyers knew they could wait on other options that wouldn't require many assets. The market to move cap wasn't friendly to teams like us and that's why some of the rumored players that we wanted to move weren't moved. Maybe they still get moved eventually, but I don't think it'll be easy.We don’t have to trade Tarasenko. Vegas needed cap space to be compliant. There’s a big difference there.
Soooo is this where we stand right now?
Schenn-O’Reilly-Kyrou
Buchnevich-Thomas-Tarasenko
Neighbours-Barbashev-Saad
Brown-Acciari-Kostin/Toropchenko(when he returns)
Walker
Leddy-Parayko
Krug-Faulk
Scandella-Perunovich
Mikkola-Bortuzzo
Binnington
Greiss
I looks to me like it came down to Leddy or Perron and they think the internal depth options to replace Perron are better than the options to replace Leddy
Took $14M less to go to Columbus. That's a real head-scratcher.And there goes Gaudreau to Columbus for under 10M
"I'd love to play for you guys, but, I want the team around me to be good too"Took $14M less to go to Columbus. That's a real head-scratcher.
I'm sorry, we're saying that at least 2 of Mikkola, Rosen and Perunovich are NHL D men but at least two of Aciari, Walker, Brown, Torpo, and Neighbours aren't NHL forwards? And that’s why people are incensed. We now have 8 defensemen and 11 NHL caliber forwards.
The Gaudreau deal isn't a bad point if he really wants to come here. Something between Thomas and that is very workable. If I could talk myself into believing the contract size (I can't) then this is really lining up for Gaudreau to move, Tarasenko to move to someone who lost musical chairs, and Tkachuk to be acquired and extended for 8x8+
