I like every signing we made today. The contracts are all fair. I like that we didn’t spend significantly on a backup goalie. Greiss is good for a million. He was one of the best backups in the NHL before going to an awful Detroit team.

But that is all in a vacuum. What I don’t get, and will never get, is why we gave Perrons money to Leddy.

The only way any of this makes sense is if we are trading defense for a forward at some point. We have 8 NHL level defensemen and we are missing a top 9 forward. They either need to dump Scandella and picks to sign a Palat, or they need to Trade Krug for a second line winger. I prefer option 1.

If this is it—-why would you give Leddy Perrons money? Even if it’s fair value for what Leddy brings.

We wouldn’t go to 4.75? I am absolutely disgusted. There is no f***ing excuse for that. None.

I don't think we were willing to go close to $4.75M. Perron's agent went to Armstrong and said Perron wanted to sign with the Blues. We low-balled him a 2 year deal according to JR. He wanted to be here. If we were at$4.5, maybe even as low as $4.25, I would guess he'd have come back to us rather than signing at $4.75M in Detroit.

It’s completely and utterly mind boggling. He’s literally a first line player willing to sign for under 5. You find room for those players. Period.

What an absolute dud of a day by Armstrong. I really hope he’s got something else up his sleeve because he’s made us worse today.

Yep, something has to give. There's definitely more to come, and if Army didn't want to keep Perron at that salary, have to think he's thinking bigger.

Still think he'll trade Scandella plus a mid-round pick to a cap floor team for a late round pick. Also guessing Barby/Peru/Bolduc or 2023 1st for Chychrun.

And I think we now see why we settled on Greiss instead of Chucky Sideburns.

Saad / ROR / Buch
Logan Brown? / Thomas / Tarasenko
Neighbours / Schenn / Kyrou
Walker / Acciari / Torpedo (when healthy)
Joshua? TBD?

Chychrun / Parayko
Krug / Faulk
Leddy / Bortz
Mikkola

Binner
Greiss
I don't see why we would be trading for Chychrun. Scandella making 3.25 on the 3rd pairing is already bad. We wouldn't have just signed Leddy to 4x4 to do the same thing.

I thought any LHD we got was going to get Perron's money. Provorov/Chychrun/Sanheim would've gotten his money. It's just in this case it is Leddy getting the money. The only way Perron was signing here is if we moved Scandella but maybe DA is having a hard time moving him

I see what you're saying, but Leddy's a far better player than Scandella right now, and the trade I proposed turns LD from a problem area to a strength. Plus, our top 9 was unbelievable last year, and maybe Army is thinking more balance of quality between F and D is needed.

Seeing someone like Logan Brown in the top 9 is a bit scary, though.

I think the fact that another poster pointed out - that we have Krug, Scandella, Leddy, Mikkola, and Perunovich on the roster - means that some trades to thin that herd are coming. Don't know which one(s) and for what, but something does have to give.

My point still stands. For that price you absolutely sign Perron and figure the rest out later.

Scandella + Vladi = 10.75m
half of that is 5.375
5.375 + 2.8 = 8.175 about the Thomas extension
if Kyrou signs a similar contract that money is already spoken for

I'd rather have 57 than 91.

There, said it.

I don't even think this is controversial. Tarasenko has only 1 year left on his contract, and he very clearly isn't re-signing. For the people saying "So you'd just trade Tarasenko for peanuts?", if it meant we retained Perron for, say, 5 million for 2 years and we cleared up 2.5 mill in cap space, then I'd like our situation a lot ore then I like our current one.

Soooo is this where we stand right now?

Schenn-O’Reilly-Kyrou
Buchnevich-Thomas-Tarasenko
Neighbours-Barbashev-Saad
Brown-Acciari-Kostin/Toropchenko(when he returns)
Walker

Leddy-Parayko
Krug-Faulk
Scandella-Perunovich
Mikkola-Bortuzzo

Binnington
Greiss

I'd throw Bitten and Bolduc into that soup of guys fighting for the 9-12 forward positions. Bitten had a better playoffs in the AHL than Neighbours did in the CHL. Armstrong specifically mentioned both Bitten and Bolduc as guys who would be fighting for one of the opportunities. I also wouldn't be surprised if we signed another Acciari level guy.

not me, 91 is the better player
and he won't be here after next year
maybe DA is looking at it and needs Perron/Vlad/Scandella money to be gone so we can extend ROR/Thomas/Kyrou
I think Joe's nailing it. DA's in a corner and has to make tough decisions knowing that the captain and the two kid stars need to be Blues for a VERY long time to come, and that takes big money.

Even if DP57's contract is a 2 year one, one of those years is one where Kyrou is likely 3x more expensive than he is now. The reality is that we're going to need Neighbours, Bolduc, and Mikkola to take big steps to keep this window open.

I’d be pretty happy if Bolduc ended up making the squad, along with Neighbours. I still think Bitten starts in the AHL and gets a call up.

Definitely wouldn't be surprised to see Bolduc get a 9 game tester this upcoming season. After he got his nutrition intake under control he went off production-wise. Bitten could also be a boom prospect who could get some time in the NHL. We also have Brown who could progress as well.

3x3 for 9 million and one extra year probably could have got it done for a little less AAV, moving Scandella alone would still allow us to lock in Leddy with the 4x4 deal and get our backup goalie at 1.25. Maybe not Acciari, but it's not like we had enough guys in Neighbours, Toropchenko (after December), Kostin, Walker, Brown, all competing for the role already.
