There was no evidence yet that Petersen was going to fully take over the #1 job. $5 million per year is #1 starter goalie money. I think rightfully, Petersen should have only gotten a raise up to $2 million per year from his entry level contract. His save percentage dropped a good deal last season and more so this season, once his workload was over 30 games per season.

What makes things worse, the PP is bad and this team is definitely not a playoff type team with Doughty out of the lineup. Just too many young player mistakes in the D-zone and a continuous lack of goal scoring, are killing this team right now. When you are not getting the best in keeping the puck out of your own net, you have to find ways to score goals.

Is finishing 9th in the west while having anything from slightly disappointing to disastrous seasons from Vilardi, Kupari, Turcotte and Byfield a positive season?

This would be a lot like the Dave Taylor mid 00’s seasons.

Not all Kings fans are happy watching a top heavy team muddle their way through a season. Maybe it gives people with low expectations hope, but not every one has that type of attitude.
 
The 1st line is corpse, and the lineup tweak is scratch one of the best and only shooters on the roster.. brilliant

It's like they were completely in shock from the horrible call/non call in the 1st and never recovered. The wild took over from that moment and have never looked back.

It's a return to the mental weakness of the last couple seasons. The moment they got scored on they gave up and stopped playing.
 
If this was chess, id have them resign.. just have Kopi go to center ice and fall over

Worst game of the season.

At least when they got blown out by the Bruins in LA, they didn't inspire hope by scoring 3 goals.

How many coaches does Blake get to hire?

Here are the only coaches in Kings' history with a winning percentage of over .500 with a minimum of 100 games coached:

Bob Pulford
Bob Berry
Robbie Ftorek
Tom Webster
Andy Murray
Terry Murray
Darryl Sutter

Two of the seven were hired by Dean Lombardi. The Kings have had 27 different coaches over the course of their existence.

John Stevens coached 99 games for the Kings. Close, but no cigar.

My point is, time would be better spent finding the right President and GM to hire the next coach.
