Massive collapse at the end of the season reminiscent of 2006. That’s a character and mental toughness issue.

2005-06 record through 65 games: 36-24-5, 77 points

2021-22 record through 65 games: 35-22-8, 78 points

2005-06 record last 17 games of the season: 6-11-0, 12 points, miss the playoffs (including winning the last two meaningless games of the season)

2021-22 record last 17 games of the season: 3-3-2, 8 points, 9 games remaining (looking like a loss today… 3-4-2 perhaps?)

🤬

At this rate the kings lose every game but still male the playoffs and then lose four in a row.

Just because you paint by the numbers doesn’t mean you’re making art.

Brown had proven more when he got his contract. Cal had 1 decent season basically….

That doesn’t change the fact that he hadn’t shown anything to prove that he’d be a number one goalie. A good amount of fans thought it was a good contract. That was scary a handful of us thought that it was undeserving and it’s showing

But the problem with Petersen is that he's already 27. And 28 come Oct. He's not a kid. He was going to be a UFA. If he was 22, and restricted, and can't go anywhere, he'd get a different contract. With Quick still here, nobody else was going to come here though. Quick isn't playing as much as he used to, but he's still getting in there half the time.

I’m rarely reactionary but the Kopitar line is really disappointing. Iaffalo has been terrible and Kopitar not much better. 5/5 they seem to be Minnesotas preferred matchup.

I’m really impressed with Vilardi and Byfield is very close to putting it together. That line needs to stick.

Durzi really is a weak link with the errors having nothing to do with usage.

Cal is not the problem.

I had been optimistic about making the playoffs but now it feels like it's slipping away. They absolutely have to win in Chicago because this team isn't winning a back to back in Denver.

As far as next season, I am personally expecting a big step back.

Center

Kopitar will be 35, he has been awful in the second half of the year and will probably be worse next year.

Danault is not going to have another offensive season like this

Byfield is a big question mark, I don't see how they make it next year without a huge step forward

Turcotte has literally done nothing, with his injury history and play since being drafted I don't expect much. He's a Top 5 pick in name only.
----------------

Wingers

How many 25 goal wingers will the Kings have next year? Kempe and Arviddson are fine in their roles, anyone else? They are jerking around Kaliyev's development again.

Iafallo? This is Mike Richards 2.0 if he's not hurt.

Moore? Awesome player, but this is his ceiling, he;'s not taking a step to a 30 goal guy.

Vilardi? Can't produce.

Need to address this position in the immediate and longterm.

------------------

Defense

The strength of the team at NHL and AHL level, but they don't score enough, which is bad for a team with terrible forwards.

Need to actively balance left/right issue and try and acquire a defenseman who can be a weapon on the PP.

------------
Goaltending

Cal is bad, he is not young and is not the answer in the immediate or long term.

Blake is not firing his good old buddy from San Jose.
If Todd gets extended then I am not going to watch the Kings seriously. I’ll be sleeping through the games as I have the last few seasons. I made the mistake investing a part of my mental interests into the team again and I am extremely frustrated with the coaching.

You just predicted the Kings to finish with 94 points…whoa, what a ‘collapse’, lol.

Looks like I wasn't the only one.

This team does not deserve to be in the playoffs. Btw, we are in goalie troulble… Petersen new contract will be Blake’s biggest mistake
Honestly it's not as bad to deal with as we probably think. Cal's going to have a bottom half starter salary for next season. $5mil would be tied for 13th highest goalie salary with 5 other guys right now. If Fleury comes back he likely makes more, and Kuemper/Elvis will both get more than that this offseason, maybe Soupy if he turns it around going forward. There will be affordable 1A/Bs without spending too much on the cap in net.

See what happens when you fail to take full measures and hang on to Quick because of sentimental reasons. You end up behind at the end of the day.

Best season this team has had in years, but you’ve decided you’ve had enough…da fuq? This place is like the twilight zone.

Kopitar is a team worst -3 so far.

#leadership
Him and Iafallo are playing horrible hockey period. Let alone top line and pp duties. They stayed out nearly two minutes on the last powerplay. Iafallo touched the puck like twice. Once he lost it and the Wild cleared the zone and the other he had a weak attempt to stuff it in.
Seems like Kopitar would enjoy golfing more than laying it all on the line in a playoff series. Sick of watching these two getting the royal treatment they do by the coaching staff. Just sickening how they dont seem to care tonight.
