I don't think we can pick 9th. 1st is up for grabs then 2-8 are the 7 teams that didn't play in the qualifiers. In the West, there are 2 series where both teams have less points than we do so if they don't win the lottery, they would slot in at 9 and 10. Then we need the games to keep going our way, which means the lower seeds up 2-1 have to close things out and the Panthers have to come back. Otherwise, they would be 11 and the best we could do would be 12. So I think our best case scenario is obviously getting 1 but if that doesn't happen we need a team that is lower than us (Minnesota, Vancouver, Florida, etc,) to win the lottery. That puts us at 10 or 11.

If I'm wrong let me know but that's how I understand the situation

I think Florida is technically slotted behind the NYR based on Pts % since the NYR played one less game.

First option, easily for me.

I don't see a huge difference between picking 9th or 10th. Now if we're talking 10th and first overall, all bets are off.

With all due respect to the city and it's residents, f*** Pittsburgh. Let's see how they do without being gifted a generational talent, or a first overall, or some other bullshit to get fans to give two shits about the team when they aren't winning.

Try living here and dealing with it. Obnoxious bastards. One of the worst parts is that the team marketed to the younger crowd when Crosby came into the league because they didn't want to compete with the Steelers for the older crowd. So not only are they obnoxious, they all act like hockey didn't exist until 2005.

The city itself is a great place to live though.

Been there a few times and it's just...not my thing.

Ahhh, wasn't sure what the rules for the were. Still don't think we can pick better than 10 unless it's 1

If the Habs, Wild, Hawks, Jets, and Yotes all win their series the NYR will be the lowest rank team left. Therefore either pick 1 or 9.

Edit - presuming the league doesn’t give in to the Devils’ “petition” RE the Yotes pick if that is really a thing.

Now let's look a bit further ahead. This is something I discussed at work with one of my techs who is a Leafs fan... How much does the pandemic, and the potential cancellation of seasons in NA affect prospects in future drafts? Imagine being a 15 or 16 year old prospect, with the talent to be a top-10 pick, does this upcoming year where you can't play competitive hockey see you drop in future rankings? Do we see an influx of European prospects high in the draft?

You very well might. I actually think the CHL leagues might be able to make a go of it next year. They're mostly Canadian based teams and Canada doesn't nearly have the same issues the United States does. There's a good chance if that happens there will be shutdowns now and again though and I'm not sure what you do with the Portland's, Seattle's and Everett's in the WHL or the Erie or Plymouth team in the OHL. I think the NCAA is pretty much prepared to shut down US college hockey. I don't think US college hockey the AHL, ECHL or USHL can be played in bubble. The resources just aren't there. If the NHL starts off next season back in the bubble in Canada teams will still have to carry 30-35 players and some of them probably won't play very much.

Generally I think hockey will be relatively safe if played in Canada and very dangerous played in the United States and I think that's going to be the case for at least the next 7/8 months. I don't want to get into the politics of this though--I've already been in jail for that. From a Rangers point of view though I'd rather have my players playing than not playing. And if what I'm thinking happens that doesn't bode all that well for United States draft prospects for the '21 draft. Maybe the USNTDP could do a world tour?

Are we ahead of Vancouver because of percentages too? They were another one I was looking at.

I don't see how the league would give into that. It's literally the dumbest stunt I've seen a team try to pull.

I missed this and can't find anything with a quick Google search. Can you explain what they're trying to do?

Question...which would people prefer -

1) Montreal loses their series, meaning the Rangers end up at 10OA, (with all other factors occurring that allow that to happen)

or

2) Montreal wins their series, Rangers end up at 9OA, but Pittsburgh wins 1OA.

Ranger get 10Oa. I would hate it if Pitt got the 1st pick.

Everyone trying to find that one loophole that changes things.

Back in 1989 it was Edmonton and Vancouver knowing Pavel Bure was draft eligible.

Imagine we do win 1st overall and we reach for someone else outside the top 10? Lol i doubt it but it honestly wouldn't shock me. Last year i was holding my breath when they walked up to the podium to choose Kakko.

I could definitely see them looking at Sanderson and having visions of him lining up with literally anyone they put on the right side - Trouba, Fox, ADA, Lundkvist, etc.

The Rangers have a lot of potential on the left side. But they also had potential on the right side when they traded for Fox and later Trouba. Point being, if they want someone, I don't think fear about having too many options in the future is going to be a deterrent.

Yeah but at some point they need to have a fear of not having enough options at center and forward.
