Seth Jones has another 5-6+ years of good play in him, and right now is kind of buying low. If you’re a team that’s serious about winning and he is interested in playing here you’ve got to at least look at a deal

Interesting read/logic about the "Jones to Avalanche" rumor:

Last Word on Baseball: NHL Rumours: Colorado Avalanche, Chicago Blackhawks, Minnesota Wild.

The problem with Baugh’s logic is to get Jones you’re not adding him to the existing D core, you’re sending one of them out for an upgrade/trade of skill sets. If the Avs get Jones I’d bet heavily one of the left handlers is going the other way. Girard makes the most sense IMO, but I don’t think they Avs ultimately do it.

Plus if Seattle takes Graves and Nemeth walks as he should the Avs have plenty of room on their defense to work with. I’m not confident Johnson plays all much next season.

No question.

IF the rumours are true, you have to explore. A top pairing D under 30 who wants to be here. He’s also a pretty cheap cap hit for the upcoming year.

What rumors? It's been debunked already

I'm pretty confident Joe knows the type of players he needs to bring in next year. He knew they needed to get harder to play against even before the playoffs, he just didn't follow through on his instincts.

The Avs were linked to Josh Anderson going back to last year's deadline. This year they were linked heavily to Nick Foligno and it appeared they were pretty close to getting him.

I can't imagine his feeling on that has changed after watching the playoffs and seeing how the Avs couldn't generate enough greasy goals around the net, and couldn't defend their own net well enough.

Aggressive Joe just reverted back to Patient Joe though as he must not have liked the prices for players like this, and ended up with the cheapest big players he could find in Soda and Nemeth.

His mother clarified her statement, which this forum has quoted. It is not that he does not want to leave, or that he only wants to come to Colorado. The point she was making is that he is not some NBA prima donna who was going to force his way out without character. So he may well want to come here. FWIW, I can't imagine a grown man speaking at length with his mother about professional opportunities.

I have a feeling that tweet was just Seth Jones' mom doing damage control for her son's rep after Brisson has been trying to facilitate a trade through the media to his preferred destination.

I didn't renew my Athletic subscriptions so this is the first time I'm reading Baugh's take on Jones.

He thinks they should steer clear of him because being a 26 year old defenseman "would fly in the face of everything Joe Sakic has built" and he would "block one of the team’s other young defenders from playing a more prominent role."

None of this makes any sense. 26 years old is right in the wheelhouse of the Avs core and who is he worried about Jones blocking? 19 year old Justin Barron who will likely start in the AHL and could be there all season anyway?

This wasn't written by Baugh.

This wasn't written by Baugh.

Doug Winkey is 30-years-old and serves as a staff writer for both Last Word on Hockey and Last Word on Baseball. In addition to being a huge Avalanche and Rockies fan, he covers news across the NHL. His other sporting interest include the NFL's Minnesota Vikings and Iowa State University in the NCAA.

But yeah, I agree. He stated his conclusion but not his rationale. It doesn’t make sense like Foppa2118 said.

Isn't this referring to what Baugh wrote directly below? There's a huge gap of space after this and before what looks to be where the Last Word On Sports writer gives his opinion.

"Rumour: The Athletic’s Peter Baugh recently had a mailbag where he evaluated Seth Jones‘ fit on the Avalanche roster.

Analysis: It is tempting to view the former fourth overall pick as the last piece of need, but Colorado should steer clear of Jones. That isn’t a knock on the Columbus Blue Jackets defender, but trading for a 26-year-old skater would fly in the face of everything Joe Sakic has built. Such a trade would block one of the team’s other young defenders from playing a more prominent role next year."

The "rumour" is from Baugh's mailbag, but the analysis is from the LWOS guy.

Guess I shouldn't be surprised that someone with terrible analysis also has terrible structure to his articles.

What the hell is that 10 lines of dead space for after that paragraph?

So you're pinning us blowing leads on Andre Burakovsky, and that's it? Or should we be getting rid of Landeskog, too? Since he caused a goal against the same way Burakovsky did.

Who the hell is going to score beyond the top line if he's moved and we get a more defensive forward to take his place?

Brandon Saad will not make 6M per season, and I will personally fly you anywhere in the world 1st class if Tyson Jost even sniffs that dollar figure. The guy shouldn't even get a raise from his current contract, let alone that figure.
I really don't see how Saad makes less than 6 on the open market.

I pin blowing leads on Bura, Nemeth, Graves and G. Unlike the other 3, I believe G is worth keeping.

Not Landeskog or Grubauer or Kadri or JB or Sakic much less the other players?

Seth Jones is probably looking to sign with Dallas in order to be closer to momma, something they probably want. Dallas likely will give him a letter. The whole situation should be a major red flag for the Dallas organization.

I don't blame Landeskog, no.

Kadri is a good point. It would be nice to swap him for a different 2C. Him always being one borderline hit away from missing a whole series plus, is very concerning.

Gru stole us game 2 and any other goalie not named Vasilevskiy would have similar performances against all those turnovers.

Sakic also did fail us this last trade deadline hard. I called him out earlier.
