Trading Kadri now is like trying to sell a car after you sprayed "KILL THE PIGS!" on the side after a drunken stupor. You really need to find the right buyer.

I love bacon I’ll take it! I’m sure there are no other implications that could land me in trouble.Trading Kadri now is like trying to sell a car after you sprayed "KILL THE PIGS!" on the side after a drunken stupor. You really need to find the right buyer.
Carter didn't have a say in where he wentCarter wanted to go to Pittsburgh.
Wasn't he the one that said he would retire if he was traded? Or am I thinking of someone else?Carter didn't have a say in where he went
Yeah he did. Maybe not contractually but he was asked where (if anywhere) he’d be willing to go. He agreed to go to Pittsburgh before the trade happened.Carter didn't have a say in where he went
But that's what I mean - contractually he didn't have any say. If he was getting traded, it was always going to a team that is making the playoffs and likely has a chance to contend.Yeah he did. It did. Three years ago Bob McKenzie reported that Carter was threatening the Kings that he’d retire if they moved him. His drama with CBJ years ago demonstrates he’s willing to be difficult. But that's what I mean - contractually he didn't have any say. Him "ok-ing" Pittsburgh meant nothing in the grand scheme of things.
I don't know if the Kings would have cared all that much, though. I mean, sure, they'd be out the two conditional draft picks they received from Pittsburgh but they'd also be clear of Carter's 5.2M salary that could be used to actually help the team instead of whatever it was Carter had been doing the last 4 years as a straight up bad hockey player. It did. If Newhook continues to progress through the playoffs, we still should have a short term 2C because Newhook won't have seen the full grind of an NHL season. Finding a trade for someone with a short term that you're willing to walk away from may be tough.Kadri would definitely have takers.. Problem is what do we do to fill that spot. If Newhook really impresses in the playoffs, maybe it could work out. If not, why would someone trade a better 2C for Kadri? Then again, wouldn't it be better to go with Kadri again next season and Newhook gets an extra year to prepare? Won't be an easy puzzle to solve.
I always assumed Kadri was only a temporary solution as he was the best player we could get to fill that hole. Ideally you want someone better than Kadri to be your 2C in a cup team.
I think the Kings had to care a lot. They have Doughty and Kopitar there. They’re both pretty vocal about what they want. Doughty is also close with Carter — he was just talking him up again last week. If you treat Carter badly, one of the vets of their cup wining teams, I’m pretty certain there’d be reverberating effects on some of the remaining vets in LA.I don't know if the Kings would have cared all that much, though. Again, I understand there's a "respect" factor with players/GMs but if Rob Blake had a better offer on the table (not saying he did) he wouldn't need to consult Carter on sending him there given the lack of a NMC/NTC. If Carter threatened to retire, call his bluff and you have the immediate cap space.
Ehhhh but do you really think that matters? Look at how Joe Sakic treated Tyson Barrie. That's Nathan MacKinnon's best friend, and he moved him out to improve the team.I think the Kings had to care a lot. They have Doughty and Kopitar there. Not to mention...I’m pretty certain any potential receiving team would have asked if Carter would actually want to play there, given his retirement threats.
Next year Newhook will be the same age Stastny was when he took over as. 2C.If Newhook continues to progress through the playoffs, we still should have a short term 2C because Newhook won't have seen the full grind of an NHL season. I think Jost brings enough to the table to make Kadri expendable. We shall see how that goes here in the coming weeks.
Maybe a motivated Kadri comes back and lights it up and plays his contract year like most players play at that point.
Either way, I think Joe will make sure 2C isn't an issue.

If Kadri ends up leaving a 3C like Teirney would be a better investment.
So by losing Mikko or Cale for a RS?Just BS the way TB blatantly circumvents the cap.
Yep...why do you think they can withstand it?So by losing Mikko or Cale for a RS?

Rob Blake's job is to make the Los Angeles Kings the best team possible, not to please Drew Doughty. If trading Carter elsewhere brought a better return, he should have done it.
Again, not saying that there was a better offer out there because those conditional picks will very likely turn into a 2nd and 3rd - great value for a player that has sucked for 4 years now. But Carter threatening retirement should not and likely did not impact anything Rob Blake did.
It's cute that you seek me out for Tyson Barrie posts. How does someone that used to actually play for us live in your head rent free?Let it go... you need help.
