Yeah, I will admit that didn't come out right because Kopitar isn't a glory seeker. I get a sense of him being "satisfied" with his contribution if he comes out of a season with somewhere between 65-70 points, and the team was still DFL. That's not a trait I like in him.

When all his peers on the top of the points leaderboard are scoring a lot of points with minimal defensive responsibilities.... Kopitar is playing Selke caliber defense. What port of that says "satisfied?" If all he cared about was points, wouldn't he just cherry pick and blow the zone and minimize energy on the defensive end of the ice? I mean, there was a financial incentive for him prior to him signing his last contract just to cherry pick and score points, yet he didn't -- he played all 3 zones in impressive manner and works his ass off to be conditioned to play 20+ mins/game, which is unreal for a 33 yr old forward.

Just come out and say it. You hate Kopitar and will resort to your feelings to justify your opinion. Its a good thing your feelings and opinions don't have to be based in fact or reality, since its how you feel.

I don’t think he’s ever been satisfied with anything. Every down year he’s had he’s made adjustments and come back better. That shows me he wants to improve, wants to evolve. He sacrificed a lot of his own offensive potential to buy into first Murray and then Sutter wanting to turn him into best shutdown guy in the league and a perennial Selke candidate (and should have at least 2 more of them). The whole roster was then built around what they wanted him to be. He’s sacrificed plenty of goals and assists to be that guy, the lynch pin. Without his total buy in we don’t win either cup.

I didn’t think he should have been given the C (nor did I think Brown should have lost it), I was vocal about that. However, he has grown as a Captain and leader and since TMac arrived I think he’s been a great skipper (Doughty has been more of a leader also). He proved me wrong.

You’re basing your take ‘on a sense’ but it feels like you want to find fault but the facts don’t support it. So you seem to be basing your argument on subjective points and intangibles that we effectively have zero insight into. He may not have reached his offensive ceiling but that because of the way he developed under coaches that ensures his defensive ceiling was priority. Kopitar went with it because that’s what the team wanted... to me that’s an outstanding trait and a great example.

I don't think Kopitar is some case of a guy who left a lot of his potential on the table. He could have been more assertive at times but he's gotten about what he is capable of out of his career. He was a decent but not great skater and he never had elite deception in his game despite having great puck skills. He was never as talented as a Malkin.

Yep, he was effectively top 10 for points for the decade and has carved out a 73-point pace career. 92 point ceiling. On pace for 102 this season. He's had a phenomenal career and much better production than anyone will give him credit for and that's before we talk about the Selke-level defense going along with it. Maybe he could have eeked out 10-15 more points if he were JUST a PP guy but that's also not necessarily the best use of his talents.

Again, I don't hate Kopitar. He is a fine player. He is a nice guy. I have met him several times and got to play poker with him for an hour or so in Vegas at Luc's charity tournament. His 8-year, $80M contract was not a good move for the Kings.

Hes just trolling now

I know I don't have to explain opportunity cost to you.

This is hilarious. Entertain us with what was this “opportunity cost” is. Who is Kopitar taking an opportunity away from? Did his contract prevent the Kings from signing someone who’s a realistic option? Was Ryan Johansen that missed opportunity?

The Kings have trouble signing UFAs as it is. No one of Kopitar's level would be coming to LA as a UFA. We have to overpay or add extra year(s) like with Mitchell. And trading for potential is no certain thing. Kopitar is the certain production.

Kopitar is a fringe HOFer, damn that made me laugh. 2 cups, 2 selkes, 1000+ games, will be 1000+ points, Hart nomination, only nhl player from Slovenia. Yup fringe my friends fringe. If he’s a fringe player than only like 6 players are HOFers from 05-09 drafts.

And UFAs don’t come here, never have and probably never will. So the contract didn’t hamper anything.
