But there aren't any guys like Gaetz. Your scary guys these days are Reaves and Wilson because they can fight but mainly because they get to take huge runs on the forecheck. In that sense, MacD does go looking for the big hit whenever possible but it is more difficult as a defenseman.
It also takes a high intensity game for things to break out to a point where MacD going ham on someone could be expected. Well, the Kings need to start treating games with high intensity for that to happen. Even after the Roy incident last night, there is too much passivity from most everyone out there. It's part of the coming together as a team thing that we need to see more of as this season progresses.
I would say the bright spot out of all of this was Doughty. The moment in the 1st when it became obvious the Wild came to play, he was out there finishing his checks, taking runs and using his stick. Stuff like this bodes well for the "Doughty will be good when he cares again" crowd but it is also further proof of my ongoing belief that this team never sets its own tone and is comfortable playing it however the other team wants to play it. That starts with the vets that are comfortable to play a safe game of hockey, get that game check and move on to the next while the rebuild continues. I don't like that since they need to be the tone setters but I get it...11 and 8 play so many minutes a night that if they went Sutter-style full time they would be useless once this team is ready to compete. What we all need to see is the young guys on this team go out there and bring the fire from the start.
