Man that was a tough one last night (side bar Wild broadcast was awesome, was totally on the side of it being a 5 minute major), hope Walker and Roy are ok. Losing middle pair pairing is hard for any team, but especially for one with little defensive depth. Hoping Bjornfot gets the call, but I don't think we see anything till Monday.

The Big Rig didn't miss a shift since he isn't on the PP that ensued. He just went back out there and probably played some of his best hockey once they were down to four guys.
he shook that shit off like a champ

you could tell he immediately wanted to hurt someone but knew what was at stake so he just took it on the chin

I wish.

I'm a little worried he's more Kyle Clifford, Raitis Ivanans than he is Link Gaetz.

Maybe because he knows he'll kill someone if he really gets a hold of them.

I hope Blake sees what this team is missing. No way we should expose our prospects to dirty hits and get manhandled that way. Reminds me of the Habs 4-5 years ago, to small and soft and they slowing beefed up the back line and added some sandpaper up front to go with the skilled undersized players.

yes, and it's very apparent the Wild have that going for them...when players like Fiala and Kaprizov feel like they can 'play big' and fearless.

Then of course, Wagner takes him to the wall later, and Soucy immediately steps in to defend him...good stuff. The 4min call was BS but everything that led up is what I'd want to see from the Kings.

They are also missing creativity. Someone that other teams have to be on the look out for. It would open the ice up for the other guys. That's why I have always said we were missing a Patrick Kane like player and why a wanted them to draft Stutzle

Indeed. We seriously need a Deadmarsh, a Lappy, and/or a Matt Johnson

i don't think there's really any of those total loose cannons left, they're all professionals now. i think he tries really hard to do the "right" thing and just throw big hits and fight when he has to, as that's probably what's gonna keep him in the lineup

in that situation i have to think he was aware that going down ANOTHER defenseman would've been the deathknell so he just licked his wounds. full lineups, i think he's taking a trophy home

But there aren't any guys like Gaetz. Your scary guys these days are Reaves and Wilson because they can fight but mainly because they get to take huge runs on the forecheck. In that sense, MacD does go looking for the big hit whenever possible but it is more difficult as a defenseman.

It also takes a high intensity game for things to break out to a point where MacD going ham on someone could be expected. Well, the Kings need to start treating games with high intensity for that to happen. Even after the Roy incident last night, there is too much passivity from most everyone out there. It's part of the coming together as a team thing that we need to see more of as this season progresses.

I would say the bright spot out of all of this was Doughty. The moment in the 1st when it became obvious the Wild came to play, he was out there finishing his checks, taking runs and using his stick. Stuff like this bodes well for the "Doughty will be good when he cares again" crowd but it is also further proof of my ongoing belief that this team never sets its own tone and is comfortable playing it however the other team wants to play it. That starts with the vets that are comfortable to play a safe game of hockey, get that game check and move on to the next while the rebuild continues. I don't like that since they need to be the tone setters but I get it...11 and 8 play so many minutes a night that if they went Sutter-style full time they would be useless once this team is ready to compete. What we all need to see is the young guys on this team go out there and bring the fire from the start.

yeah, the response vs initiation thing is apparent. had macd and foligno not fought, no chance the kings are taking those runs. given, the wild outmatched them with that physicality, but that shit will work against other teams.. they're capable of it, just not willing to

wagner and grundstrom dragged themselves into it, but they should be doing it without needing to be dragged. wagner's speed makes him so capable of taking runs on the forecheck..
