yeah, the response vs initiation thing is apparent. had macd and foligno not fought, no chance the kings are taking those runs. given, the wild outmatched them with that physicality, but that shit will work against other teams.. they're capable of it, just not willing to

wagner and grundstrom dragged themselves into it, but they should be doing it without needing to be dragged. wagner's speed makes him so capable of taking runs on the forecheck..

Well, this is one of the reasons I am pro-Wagner: he led the Kings in hits last season while playing under 12 minutes a game. The lineup is so devoid of sandpaper that I can't not root for a guy with elite speed that actually tries to get in on the forecheck with the body and not just a fly-by poke check.

Maybe he gets Wally Pip'd by Grundstrom since Grundstrom is more skilled but, shit, why not both of them on the 4th line forecheck instead of a midget and a soft-as-shit Amadio?

My hope is the Kings are in more games this year and actually start playing some meaningful games with around 15-20 games left in the season so these kids get higher intensity games under their respective belts. It is one thing to just play in the NHL and another to play in a playoff-type atmosphere. You look at the '09 team gaining confidence when they had playoff thoughts for a second there and then came out guns blazing in 2010. When you have confidence then you begin to impose your will: the young guys got to get to the point where they aren't scared and their confidence is high. I hope to see it building throughout the year.

To be honest, I've kind of been hoping for a dirty play against a Kings player that will set off a riot and bring this team together. Unfortunate to have a real bad hit happen last night and have them not really change their games. We can look at Clifford getting concussed against Vegas...Wagner by Karlsson...might as well take it back to the Tkachuk elbow on Doughty and the sad responses to all of them. This team is long overdue to start a riot...it would really help to form whatever identity this franchise is going to have moving forward. This type of stuff is one of many reasons I'm cool with so many guys playing together in Ontario: let's have them caring about each other before they even get to the Kings.

Why can’t the Kings draft someone with emotion and grit for once? A guy like Miles Wood would go a long long way.

Because in this so-called analytics driven spiel world we are living, emotion and grit doesn't equal much success apparently.

I do agree. That kind of player can be more of a difference maker than a lot of people would like to admit. You just hope that kind of player is not a liability and not take too many unnecessary penalties.

I hope Blake sees what this team is missing. No way we should expose our prospects to dirty hits and get manhandled that way. Reminds me of the Habs 4-5 years ago, to small and soft and they slowing beefed up the back line and added some sandpaper up front to go with the skilled undersized players.

agreed, but I think it is easier to find the sand paper guys via trade or UFA. Key is once you have one not to overpay.

We had one in Kyle Clifford but we traded him away and made little effort (from what i heard) to resign him as a ufa I think he is missed more then anyone is going to admit.

I thought Smmonds may come back as I think he is still really close with Drew. Would have rather him than AA. But I cannot possibly compare the two unbiasedly. I will always cheer for Simmonds.

Who did Dumba drill mid ice in the first? I remember yelling at my TV that it was interference, but never got a clear replay.

There were more than a few borderline and late hits, which is why it's infuriating the Kings just let it all happen...and you'll notice that when Wagner tried to give it back, the Wild stood right up to him. They came ready to battle, Kings didn't. Super disheartening to watch as a fan because that's not something you can 'fix' until the players decide it's not cool.

I had hopes for Simmonds as well but id still rather had Clifford.

It's the kind of thing that will make me turn off the tv the quickest.

A part of me knew that the Kings run was officially over when a rookie Tkachuk kept taking runs at Doughty and nobody on the team did shit about it. Their response the next game after all of the build up was even worse. Standing up for your teammates is f***ing important and you aren't going to win shit if you don't.

Photos of the right-side only from now on please.

In all seriousness I hope that hes ok and just has a badly busted nose. I'm no medical expert but it looks like the puck missed his eye despite the swelling. Hopefully his cheek/orbital bones are intact.

The "culture" thing with Clifford gets mocked but you look at how DL added Stoll, Greene, Clifford, Simmonds, Williams, Mitchell and then Richards. That's a lot of grit right there and, while the game has changed, those are all guys that could play today: some still are.

Look at the last few Cup winners and--amongst other things-- they have way more grit than the Kings. Tampa had to go and get Maroon, Coleman, Goodrow and Bogosian after being bounced all of the time.

I can't imagine a nicer team the last few years than the Kings. It sucks.

I got hit with a puck in the face and took fourteen stitches. Put a hole in my cheek. I was lucky it was soft tissue. The next day I was fine. Two days later my face was black and blue. Nothing compared to that. My Lord.

I’m not buying it. Clifford had become just as complacent as the core. He never set the tone he always responded in kind. I’m talking about a young kid who goes out and sets the tone. Other teams seem to have them. Why is it only against the Kings that teams come in and set the tone and then the Kings play a certain way?

We can talk about the tough grinders all we want but it was fairly easy for a team like Tampa to acquire Coleman, Maroon, Goodrow and Bogosian. It’s a lot harder to acquire the Hedman, Kucherov, Points etc. If the Kings acquired any tough 3-4th line grinder everybody would’ve been up in arms about never getting skill.
