I am still holding out hope that Lewis signs with Ontario. Couldn't think of a better role model.

I don't think Lewis is an AHL player, and he deserves better. But yes, I agree he's someone who I hope stays in the org.

I listened to the Hoven/Christian Ruuttu (Head European Kings scout) interview, fast forwarding thru all the nonsense. Tidbits:

Grans: Good offensive player, good size, O'Donnell will have to work with him on reads and gap control,
Simontaival: Puck follows him around, in good offensive position, much better physical condition this year.
Markkanen: Ranford looked at tape, gave the thumbs up.
Chromiak: Scouts mostly watched him in the OHL. Good skill player.
Jamsen: A couple other teams wanted him in the 7th round, Ruuttu got texts from other teams after the selection, they like the potential.
Grundstrom: Really likes Grundy, says he trains hard, thinks he'll be solid.
Kupari: His knee is good, he's already in Los Angeles training and skating, fully healthy. Thinks he'll do well at C or RW.

Why would the Kings not sign a depth goalie who might have some pro upside. They sign a 31 year old journeyman?

Forsberg? Legacy? Gillies? Domingue? All these guys are in their 20s.

I got up early and started day drinking. I made a "random as a talking heads song "reference and had to qualify it.

We were watching the video for Wild Wild Life and holy shit

Just after 3 mins

I realized that I never saw the video but I also didn't really watch MTV

Maybe with both Villalta and Ingham being in Ontario they know their isn't going to be a lot of ice time, unless they loan Ingham to an ECHL team that is playing.

Ontario Reign

Then they're not going to sign with the Kings. The Alt's and Grosenick's will.

This is complaining to complain. None of those other guys have pro upside. 31 year old journeyman. 27 year old journeyman. What could possibly be the difference?

Detroit has $51m in cap space for next year. Some of that will be used for Mantha and Bertuzzi, so probably $10m, maybe $12m off that total, but still, almost $40m to spend. On what, who knows, not exactly a high quality UFA class next summer.

They can weaponize a lot of cap space. Seattle will take some, they can take the rest

I’d rather pay more for Sergachev - they’re about the same size and Serg has a mean side too. Sergachev and Doughty would be one of the best pairs in the league.
depends which version of Doughty you're talking about. The last two seasons of Doughty have been atrocious. He was at best a top 4 Dman. Whether that was him regressing or him not giving a shit. He was ten tiers below how he used to play. I wouldn't hesitate to trade Doughty for someone like Sergachev. It'd give us an out of Doughtys enormous contract that's going to last an eternity. He's turning 31.

I love the fact that that we already have two 2nds, two 3rds and two 4ths for next years draft and a ton of cap space we can weaponize.

the problem we will run into is that if our massive dearth of prospects start hitting as expected we will start exceeding the contract limit. Would like to poach some young stars for prospects. Take advantage while teams are struggling with fitting their RFAs under the cap.

What a problem to have, though. Am I right? Lets hope.

But there isn't a team that would jump at the chance to trade someone like Sergachev for Doughty.

There is only one scenario to trade Doughty. Toronto keeps losing, they get crazy desperate, and they give you Marner for Doughty. Yet that scenario is even unlikely. No reason for Doughty to agree to go anywhere else but his home town, if he's not staying where he's very comfortable.

The time to trade Doughty was, at the latest, 2018. Before the contract. Should've been done in 2017, if not after the team looked dead losing to the Sharks in 2016. That time is over though. For better or worse, the Kings are stuck with Doughty, and have to mold a team around that $11m.

Yup, unfortunately we are stuck with him unless someone jumps on it. Someone offered hall 8 million you never know
