My best guess for the Kings’ roster on opening night, with the caveat that I’m guessing Byfield gets at least nine games, and we likely see Turcotte, Kupari, Anderson-Dolan, Fagemo, Thomas, and Bjornfot up at some point for a few games as well.

I'm so excited. Please take my money.
That is sarcasm. Oh well!! At least I know that in 2022 I will probably actually be watching more than a handful of games again.

I think this will be it. On paper it looks like well be at the bottom of the standings and get another lottery pick. Though anything can happen happen and thats why they play the games. There will be room for 2 bad teams to make the playoffs in the west.

I'm hoping the Kings add a young-ish scoring winger to help out Vilardi and Lias Andersson (if he plays this year) and possibly a LHD to make sure there isn't too much pressure on the kids to perform. There is still a few decent forwards available at free agency who could help out our middle-6 and powerplay. Blake would then have options going forward like trading that player at the deadline, extending him or even making him available for Seattle expansion. My worry is that a guy like Lias Andersson comes in and has to play with wingers like Luff and Wagner, that is just setting him up for a failure. I think guys like Galchenyuk, Kahun, Athanasiou or Duclair could be signed for a fairly cheap price and short term so I see no downside in making a move like that.

This is the kind of stuff that hurts Hoven’s credibility. Like his whole the Kings are going to trade Williams fiasco. It’s like he’s plugged in but only halfway.

Why? I don't think this does. On one hand, things can change quickly. On the other, nothing has happened with Kahun yet. Hell it might make him look any better if he calls his shot days before.

Am I the only one who doesn’t want Carter in the top 6 anymore?

I think most rosters are penciling him on the 3RW, which is great to see. I doubt he's gonna be flying out the gate this year, that's for sure. But he'll be a good steadying presence a la Lewis but much better.

It does look like the Kings are set for now. That said, this is a lottery team on paper. The vets will probably show up early in the season and then check out once things get ugly.

It will be slog but they seem committed to enduring pain in order to construct a long term plan rather than just scrape into the playoffs and get destroyed.

If anything, I hope they can take on some short term pain money from another team in exchange for a quality prospect or pick if not now then by the deadline. There will be playoff teams that need to dump money to get under the cap in order to acquire talent for their runs.

With all the cap LA has left and what looks like a couple of spots for vets on one-year deals to help your prospects marinate a little more, would the Kings have any interest in Alex Chiasson or Kris Russell? Chiasson is probably a second line RW/first PP type on your team and scored 22 goals in that role two years ago. He has one year left at a pretty reasonable $2 million and could fetch a good pick at the deadline if he gets back up there with the right usage.

Russell is what he is- a willing shot blocker and defensive defenseman who can play either side and PK. I guess for you he'd either slot behind Maatta on the left side or Doughty and Roy on the right. He's another who could fetch a 3rd or so at the deadline and is only owed $1.5 million in real money, a bonus to cash-strapped teams who might be looking to add help at that time.

I understand neither is highly sought-after but what sort of plus would either need attached for LA to take them?

Exactly. With the season starting 1/2022, I don't see Byfield getting his 9 games.

I think Clague will get the shot at D and JAD will get a few looks at forward especially if one of those bottom 6 struggles. The rest of the kids are first year pros and will stay in AHL.

Also, read the Kings play with Anderson are to keep in Europe for now.

I've warmed to Hoven. His podcast is pretty good. His tweet on Kahun didn't actually say the Kings were going to sign him, although I can see why people would have taken it that way. He had the AHL signings the day before they were announced. He's far from gospel, but he's got to be the most reliable "insider" for the Kings.

The Mayor seems like he has inside track - he also has relationships with certain players. He is the new insider in my mind.

Blake and company even joked that they had a question and mentioned his name at a roundtable meeting so even management knows him.

With a tentative Jan 2021 target to start the next season, at this point I think the Kings are done making nhl roster moves. We’re waiting on announcements for development camp and maybe rookie camp dates.

It’s more likely we see additional moves in late November/ December if training camps open when expected.

I agree that’s a 90% realistic opening night roster. One thing to keep in mind is that Lizotte, Anderson and Clague are exempt from being put on waivers if sent to the AHL. I think Lizotte is a lock, but also easily run over and a perennial IR candidate.

There is that side of the coin as well. Seems very odd to post that the night before free agency Creating a buzz amongst fans and then 5 or so days in nothing.

I'm with you on the forward lines, but I have on D:

Bjornfot-Doughty
Maatta-Walker
Anderson-Roy
MacDermid

I just think Bjornfot passed Clague on the depth chart.

There's the wild card of Fagemo, Kaliyev, or Byfield making the opening night roster, but we'll see come training camp.

I'd swap the 2nd/3rd pairings and I think thats how we end the season

I'm just not sold on Luff or Clague being NHL players. Clague reminds me of a better skating left shot LaDue. Neither are good at defending. Hopefully he proves me wrong.
Luff is fluff, 4th line wing or extra forward in the press box. Decent game followed by a week of empty 8 minutes. Hopefully he proves me wrong.

People keep putting Luff in the opening night lineup but I think he’s a long shot at best. JAD and Fagemo are much more likely to be there IMO. I’m assuming waivers will come into play with peoples thinking, but if he doesn’t earn a spot in camp on this roster he is unlikely to get picked up by anyone.

I think you’re spot on with Luff, but it’s in LA’s best interest not to rush any of the prospects. If any of the offensive prospects prove they can play on the roster, Luff and Amadio are the first guys to go.

I still think Clague deserves a shot before writing him off though. He’s suffering from prospect fatigue, even though he just turned 22.

Haven't seen it written anyway or maybe i'm just overlooking it, but I wonder if the NHL/AHL will allow for slightly expanded rosters or looser rules in light of COVID.

But either way I don't see how Byfield doesn't start the season in LA. Keep some of the waiver eligibles down if you have to.
