I don’t know about all that. It sounds reasonable but just doesn’t sit right. It's certainly true there would be a few opportunities to do an offer sheet here, but GM's have long memories and there is little doubt that if a high percentage of the Kings prospects start coming into their own within a few short years, the Kings could find themselves in the same boat before too long. Would it be worth it? Only the respective GM can answer that question. With money so tight and almost zero revenue plus doubts about when play will resume, that may be a more significant factor than most realize.
As reported by Hoven last night, now official.
You talking about the players, or Dooley and Hoven?Really digging through the dumpster for those two guys.

Wasn't Alt the captain of his team? Even Ontario needs placeholders. Grosenick has a .919 and .920 sv% the last 2 years in the AHL. Not that he's better than Petersen, but those are better AHL numbers than Petersen had. Different teams and all, but a decent enough vet for the AHL.
It's not like these guys were signed to fill out the Kings. The Kings have a substantial number of younger players under contract, and only so many guys can dress every game.
And where are they going to go?Lots of big names yet to sign.

Pietrangelo, Hall, Granlund, Hoffman, Galchenyuk, Vatanen, Toffoli, Hamonic, etc.
Plus guys like Lewis and Clifford.
And where are they going to go?
I don’t know. A few teams have a decent amount of capspace, but something’s gotta give. There are more free agents than there are teams with cap space and roster spots available.
I wonder if Blake is looking to sign any of these guys to one-year deals? I wouldn’t mind giving Galchenyuk a shot.
I mean honestly there's not much left I'd go for free agent wise - Hall, maybe Hoffman. I'd take Toffoli back over Galchenyuk, but Galchenyuk would be 4th on my list. If anything I'd wait and see what opens on the trade front.I don’t know. A few teams have a decent amount of capspace, but something’s gotta give. Where are these UFA's going to play as Kings?
I will take Johnson only if he comes with Sergachev. The way I see it is Johnson has massive negative value only because of contract. Make an agreement with him that we will eat salary and move him to a team in his trade list. If we eat salary there will be teams interested. We also have a dearth if prospects we can include as a sweetener to reduce the salary we eat.
Sign Sergachev long term and give Drew a proper partner for the rest of his career.
Opens up a ton of room for Tampa to ensure they keep Cernak and Cirelli and gives them some youth.
I like our right side D with Doughty, Roy and Walker but would love what intangibles Cernak would bring. With the amount of skilled kids were bringing into this lineup I would love a rather large mean sheriff on the blue line.

Yep, some posters just don't get it. Like M. Kempe and Frk the year before, these players are signed in the off season for ONT because they will clear waivers and for organizational depth. Alt replaces LaDue since they are short one RHD in ONT. He brings leadership, size (6-4), he's a veteran pro and he has a pretty commanding presence on the ice. As an opponent the last two years when he's visited ONT, he really stands out, not just for his size. Alt also gives the Kings some depth on the right-side in case of injury to the 3 Kings RHD. Clague is also an option on his off-side. Grosenick allows the Kings to have a veteran pro that could be recalled in case of injury at the NHL level, allows the Kings to assign rookie Ingham to the ECHL to play more frequently, and Grosenick can share the duties with 2nd year pro Villalta. You don't want your AHL team to have a 20 and 21 year old in goal, not ideally anyway, and you don't want to have two pretty raw goalies next in line in case Petersen or Quick are injured.
I can't emphasize enough how important it is to have a veteran presence in ONT, especially with so many new 19 and 20 years olds coming on board this year. Outside of Brett Sutter, you really don't have a lot of vets on this squad.
