I will take Johnson only if he comes with Sergachev. The way I see it is Johnson has massive negative value only because of contract. Make an agreement with him that we will eat salary and move him to a team in his trade list. If we eat salary there will be teams interested. We also have a dearth if prospects we can include as a sweetener to reduce the salary we eat.

Sign Sergachev long term and give Drew a proper partner for the rest of his career.

Opens up a ton of room for Tampa to ensure they keep Cernak and Cirelli and gives them some youth.

It's certainly true there would be a few opportunities to do an offer sheet here, but GM's have long memories and there is little doubt that if a high percentage of the Kings prospects start coming into their own within a few short years, the Kings could find themselves in the same boat before too long. Would it be worth it? Only the respective GM can answer that question. With money so tight and almost zero revenue plus doubts about when play will resume, that may be a more significant factor than most realize.
I don’t know about all that. It sounds reasonable but just doesn’t sit right.

If we get Sergachev to bite on a $8.7M contract where he is top-pair with Doughty for 7 years ...

... you think BB is gonna lose sleep on some vengeance plot for our kids? Is he somehow going to find 8, 10 million to stick it to Blake a few years down the road? He in THE window, and it will be at least 5 years of chasing the cup high before he is fired and they rebuild.

I just don’t like that argument anymore. GMs don’t have memory past 5 years where they get fired.

I got 30 F's, 16 D's, and 5 G's. Not including Byfield.

They're above the cap floor. 2 rosters can be filled. A couple young guys can win a spot or two. I would say we probably shouldn't expect much more.

I never stop accumulating prospects if I'm Blake. Forget about roster spots. There is always an opportunity to trade them for young players that we want/need. I'm not getting emotionally attached to our prospects and I'm certainly not penciling them in.

That cap space belongs to paying the prospects or paying the superstar that they are traded for.

Really digging through the dumpster for those two guys.

Wasn't Alt the captain of his team? Even Ontario needs placeholders. Grosenick has a .919 and .920 sv% the last 2 years in the AHL. Not that he's better than Petersen, but those are better AHL numbers than Petersen had. Different teams and all, but a decent enough vet for the AHL.

It's not like these guys were signed to fill out the Kings. The Kings have a substantial number of younger players under contract, and only so many guys can dress every game. If people want the Kings to have young guys play, they can't go out and sign a couple random 28 year old UFA's to full NHL contracts. It would be great if they could just ditch Amadio, replace him with an even younger guy, and maybe sign a more exciting random 28 year old UFA to an NHL contract, but someone needs to want Amadio for that to happen.

Yep, some posters just don't get it. Like M. Kempe and Frk the year before, these players are signed in the off season for ONT because they will clear waivers and for organizational depth. Alt replaces LaDue since they are short one RHD in ONT. He brings leadership, size (6-4), he's a veteran pro and he has a pretty commanding presence on the ice. As an opponent the last two years when he's visited ONT, he really stands out, not just for his size. Alt also gives the Kings some depth on the right-side in case of injury to the 3 Kings RHD. Clague is also an option on his off-side. Grosenick allows the Kings to have a veteran pro that could be recalled in case of injury at the NHL level, allows the Kings to assign rookie Ingham to the ECHL to play more frequently, and Grosenick can share the duties with 2nd year pro Villalta. You don't want your AHL team to have a 20 and 21 year old in goal, not ideally anyway, and you don't want to have two pretty raw goalies next in line in case Petersen or Quick are injured.

I can't emphasize enough how important it is to have a veteran presence in ONT, especially with so many new 19 and 20 years olds coming on board this year. Outside of Brett Sutter, you really don't have a lot of vets on this squad.

And where are they going to go?

I don’t know. A few teams have a decent amount of capspace, but something’s gotta give. There are more free agents than there are teams with cap space and roster spots available.

I wonder if Blake is looking to sign any of these guys to one-year deals? I wouldn’t mind giving Galchenyuk a shot.

Blake is definitely waiting the market out and hoping to get lucky.

I mean honestly there's not much left I'd go for free agent wise - Hall, maybe Hoffman. I'd take Toffoli back over Galchenyuk, but Galchenyuk would be 4th on my list. If anything I'd wait and see what opens on the trade front.

Maybe sign a guy, say Toffoli on a year contract and hope that he gets hot, maybe scores a hat trick right before the deadline and trade him to a team like Vancouver for some draft picks and a great prospect.

Lots of big names yet to sign.

Pietrangelo, Hall, Granlund, Hoffman, Galchenyuk, Vatanen, Toffoli, Hamonic, etc.

Plus guys like Lewis and Clifford.

Off of that list I’d only take the chance on a few on 2 year deals. Mainly the ones young in age, Kahun, Duclair, Anthanasiou, Wallmark. Just in case they’re late bloomers, but definitely nothing over 2 years.

Johnson has four years left on his contract at a $5M contract, and he is 30 years old. That is not a good contract, but I would take it off Tampa Bay's hands for say Cal Foote.

TB might be thinking they have to trade Cernak though, and take a chance on bringing Foote up the NHL next season in order to re-sign Sergachev.

I like our right side D with Doughty, Roy and Walker but would love what intangibles Cernak would bring. With the amount of skilled kids were bringing into this lineup I would love a rather large mean sheriff on the blue line.

I’d rather pay more for Sergachev - they’re about the same size and Serg has a mean side too. Sergachev and Doughty would be one of the best pairs in the league.

I am still holding out hope that Lewis signs with Ontario. Couldn't think of a better role model.
