Speculation: 2020-21 LA Kings News/Rumors/Roster Discussion Part V

Speaking of Trevor Moore, I really like his play and tenacity. Could be a keeper as a bottom sixer and penalty killer. Now tied for second for shorties in the league.

I brought up my fondness for Moore's game after like the first 5 games....I was ridiculed.

stats don't lie. Outside of Doughty, we've gotten 4 goals combined by our defensemen. Roy is now out with covid, so it;s even worse. It seemed like the pp drove everything, when it was working , other areas worked. Now, currently 0-31 and counting, no offense at all. They lost their mojo on the Colorado roadtrip and have never got it back, only scoring more than 2 goals three times since. the pp over that time span went from 25.7 to 6.3, including two 5 on 3's and a 5 min major.

Offense from the D is so weak. At least most of the D is adept at getting the puck up quickly and most of the time cleanly...but really missing true offensive defenseman.
If you don't draft and groom them, they are not that readily available in trades; especially if they are good both ways and have any size.

I think when they drafted Clague and got Durzi in the Muzz deal, there was hope they could become a future offensive D. Not much hope for Durzi and while Clague
has improved and looks ok in his early start, don't see him as dynamic. He may have a little more ceiling left, but they need to acquire someone.

Drafting Grans with #2 pick, was a shot at a true, possible offensive defenseman, but seems to be a bit of a project, as he moved from forwward to defense
only 2-3 yrs ago. Has the size at 6'3" 200 and ability - was said if his defense and being a little better skater (he has good speed) think I read something about his pivots,
he mat have been about 10th overall. So that means the talent is there. The fact he did not make the Swedish WJC team, was a bit of a concern. It seems he's having
a decent yr in the SHL. But, it seems Grans is at least 2-3 years away. I'm glad they are trying to address this in the draft. Love Faber and think his offensive game is emerging.
He's going to be a very good one....but not dynamic offensively. How about the 5 assist game?

If Rasmus Dahlin can be had, without giving up too much, would be great. With all the top end forwards; 7 !! Byfield, Turcotte, Kupari, Kaliyev, Madden, Thomas and Fagemo....
that's a lot of forward talent and assets...and with Shafigullin coming over, if he can play, there's 8 ! Giving up a combo of 2 of these and a #1 for Dahlin...plus a D like Clague,
may be worth it. I don't think they would trade Byfield though. I'm sure they don't want to deal any of the 7. But, something will give at some point, they all can't play.

Right idea, but wrong area to be focusing on. Problem begins with the second line. Until that is established/completely overhauled, this is the Kings. Maybe next season the Kings have 2 “second lines” that rotate ice time to the hot hand. As I can see Byfield/Turcotte having the same consistency struggles Vilardi is having this year.

26th in total pts
24th in pts%

Crazy thing is the goal differential. Dallas is also in this category, but a bit higher in the standings. All teams from 23rd to 31st has a goal differential between -19 and -46, except the Kings, who sit at -4. The Kings are 1-5 in OT, so you can make an argument that the -4 is all from OT.

Not that a goal differential of 0 would be good, but there are 7 teams with better overall records than the Kings, who all have double digit negative goal differentials. The Flyers are a little weird, because they got blown out a couple times by the Rangers, but still.

Kings prospect news... Forward Kasper Simontaival (2021, RD3) will join KalPa of the Finnish Liiga next season. Same team of Kim Nousiainen (who may be coming over to NA, more on that later). Should be a good move for Simontaival. KalPa will be a young team and he'll play more.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Good news for Simontaival and if Nousiainen is coming over.....now? Or for next year?
I think with Lemieux about ready to play, (and the fact another player did not go the other way) Shafigullin coming over now
and Nousiainen coming over, the Kings are ADDING players, without subtracting players. They are pretty active in adding and
makes me wonder if there is a deal close that sends out 1,2 or 3 prospects / 1 roster player in a big deal. It's a bit odd to see them adding
3 players in about a week span. Trade deadline 1 week from today.

The case for buying out Carter has been clear for multiple seasons. The cap penalties are manageable as long as expectations are to not make the playoffs.

Unfortunately, Blake has blown his wad with the buyouts of Dion and Kovy. With management, coaches, players and media mouthpieces all pumping the hopes of fans for a playoff berth, it’s hard to see them spinning a Carter buyout as anything other than cutting bait. Which are more than enough reasons for Beckerman to reject a proposal.

AND...Another player added....Adam Johnson C/LW. Played with Iafallo in 16-17 Minn-Duluth

Ontario Reign have added another veteran forward. They've signed 26 yr old center Adam Johnson. He played w/ Alex Iafallo at UMD and earlier this yr was teammates w/ LA Kings prospect Helge Grans in Sweden (Malmo Redhawks). Last few yrs, was w/ AHL Wilkes-Barre. Has 13 NHL GP.
___________________________________________________________________________________

Adam 16-17 stats Minn-Duluth, second in scoring - behind Iafallo, ahead of Mikey Anderson's brother Joey (now with Tor organization) and Neal Pionk. Another player added....wonder if a deal is about to be made by Blake. (where 1-2 prospects go in the deal) Becuase, adding many players: LEMIEUX, Shafigullin, Johnson...Wolanin....Nousiainen?
1. Alex Iafallo (LW/C) 42 21 30 51 22 22 |
2. Adam Johnson (C/LW) 42 18 19 37 18 5 |
3. Joey Anderson (RW) 39 12 25 37 8 11 |
4. Neal Pionk (D) 42 7 27 34 25 24 |

Somethings gotta give:

Lemieux > Carter
Andersson > Carter
Adam Johnson > Carter
Grundstrom > Carter
Frk > Carter

Plus - FRK ready now!

And Frk is no longer in a red no-contact jersey. Full participant in the skate.

Everyone except Todd knows this....so, Blake will have to address it, since Todd won't.

Oh come on Jesse. Stutzle would be the 5th highest scoring player on the Kings. He is the very definition of the player you are asking for. That is such a false equivalent and I am a huge Moore fan.

Stutzle would be one of the leading scorers on the Ontario Reign if the Kings drafted him, and he would still be a severe minus player getting rekt all the same.

What does this even mean? He is producing in the NHL right now and we were not talking about defensive acumen. Jesse mentioned that we needed an offensive minded player. It is a false equivalent unless you think that Trevor Moore is the same level of prospect as Stutzle.

It means that I think that Stutzle shouldn't be in the conversation whatsoever. I wasn't criticizing your statement. Moore, has proven to be good enough to stick around the bottom 6, he is an RFA and likely not going anywhere at least not for a season or two, and any comparisons to Stutzle is non-sensical, and even if we got him, he wouldn't be on the Kings right now, so his name being in this thread is ridiculous.

Jesse said we needed a high end young offensive player, somebody said that Stutzle is a good example. Jesse then compared him to Trevor Moore, at which point I said that was a false equivalent. I am a huge Moore fan, to the point where I kind of want to buy his jersey, but I do not believe he is the same level of prospect as Stutzle.

Agreed with most of your post but like I explained to @Sol... Would you trade a 20 year old Doughty?
And if yes what would be the ask? I am guessing a kings's ransom. Can't force a trade unless it is a massive overpayment and the GM on the other side is ready for a 180 pivot in their roster rebuild.

how can you say Lemieux is > than Carter? What has he done to show this?
Same with Johnson.

I could understand building an argument for the rest even if I would not agree with them to different degrees.

Moore looked fine last season but guys his size need to be more than fine to make you think they have a long future. I didn't have him penciled in to next year's roster heading into this season but I would do so now.

At the same time, everyone's favorite small guy out of the two players was Lizotte. Now Lizotte is like Moore last season and Moore is the new Lizotte.

It's like David St. Hubbins said: It's a fine line between stupid and clever. When we are talking 4th line--maybe 3rd line--guys on a bad team, it doesn't take much for them to be praised or for them to fall out of favor. They are volatile penny stocks.

Lizotte is like Amadio. He brought youth and speed LA needed but has a shelve life before he will be passed by other assets.

Feel for Lizotte as he works his ass off every shift.
