Mostly Indifferent. Swe-Fin game the only one that matters a tiny bit. Fun to se Nylander with better suited players. Thats all.

I usually love international hockey but I’m not overly excited about this. Not all players are healthy and games start at an odd time.

Since it’s not best on best they probably should have played a best of 3 between US and Canada. I have zero interested in watching Sweden or Finland.

Start times could be worse. Remember Sochi and Nagano?

We should get a better idea of the roster setup after today’s initial practice. I imagine they will set the lines PP and PK pretty quickly to start getting the players familiar.

Reminds me of when decades ago I saw Jim Carrey's impression of Jack Nicholson winning an Oscar:

Gosh I'm so happy, I could drop a log.

Hakanpaa made the Finnish team, ok we have a player on every team. That has to be a 1st for Leafs. Anyway, I hope the results are
Marner
William
Mathews
Hakanpaa

Be interested in seeing where these 4 country ranked against each other.

Not really a best on best when there are only 4 teams.
Favourite Leaf Fan moment for me, just behind Paul Henderson scores winning goal.

September 15, 1976: Darryl Sittler Scores OT Winner vs. the Czechs in 1976 Canada Cup.

Anytime Crosby, Mack and McDavid play together should be entertaining. Which is what this tournament is designed to be.

Even if it were the Olympics, Russia would not be in so I will watch and try to enjoy.

Sucks that Drai isn't there but the Germans would just be fodder for every team

I voted other.

I like the concept of best on best, but this isn't really the case here. Lots of good players from countries like Czechia, Slovakia should be in a best on best, and of course there is the Russia situation.

I worry about injuries and hopefully the stupid political climate here doesn't taint the tournament.

As an aside - I don't think booing the US anthem is really necessary - it's not the players fault - although I'd be fine with crowd chants and signs (read into how you choose).

Will I watch? I suppose at the end of the day I probably will - at least the Canada games. At the same time I don't mind the 2 week break from hockey. With the way the Leafs are since Matthews/Marner have come on board, and especially the last couple years, the regular season tends to be a drag knowing this is a 100 pt team where the regular season results don't mean much and always hoping for different end to the season.

I really don't think this tournament means much in the end though other than hopefully TV/ticket revenue for the league.

This tourny means just about as much which division won the little 3-on-3 tournament All-star game the NHL does. Means nothing.

It's 5on5 which automatically means it will be better than that 3on3 abomination.

The fact that players are representing their nation (however tenuous the bond) has to mean more than representing your 'division'.

I expect the quality of play in the games to be better than most mid-season NHL games, but not up to serious rivalries (except maybe the Canada/US and Sweden/Finland matches) or late season playoff races.

This stupid gimmick tournament is nothing more than a cash grab by the NHL.

It pisses me off they stopped real hockey for two weeks of this crap. I won't even watch a game. It's best-on-best but none of them are gonna be playing their best.

It's just an all-star game without the skills competition.

None of these guys are gonna go balls to the wall. It's not the Olympics or playoffs where something meaningful is on the line. Nobody grew up dreaming about winning this tournament like they do a gold medal or the Stanley Cup.

Nobody really cares who wins this thing.

The kids will probably appreciate it the most. It'll be a fun show of some of the top talent in the world. There'll be lots of goals with little in the way of big hits or fights like you would see in the average normal hockey game.

Nobody wants to get hurt playing in a cash grab by the NHL.

So much for Marner won't be played much.

Funny that the deepest National team has him on the top line and we have some here who want to let him walk at seasons end.

Was Sittler the last Leaf to play for Team Canada? It's been much too long.

Marner/McDavid is the obvious choice really.

Great to see Crosby out there taking shooting drills. Even if hes banged up, he's not missing this. I wonder if hes going to get targeted by other teams though.

You would have to think he will be particularly by the US.

I'd rather watch the Leafs play, and am disappointed that there won't be any action for a time. That being said, I'll probably watch a few of the games, but won't be bothered if I miss any either.
