I get a feeling Carter is turning into our next Amadio.

The fact that none of our rookies have displaced Carter may be more of a worry than anything right now. Saying that I still think our rookies are year out from contributing on any level.

If Blake does anything this off-season it should be getting a number two defenseman to play with Doughty and to contribute on the power-play.
it will be costly but we already have the prospect capital, we have a ton of early pics in the next draft, and the way the season is heading we will have another top 10 pack.

For next year our goaltending situation should be settled with Peterson playing 70% of the games. The kid does look awesome and just think what he would do with a proper defense. Quick still has what it takes to be a backup and he would gain the most from a Defence upgrade.

Looking through our system we have all kind of prospects and all kind of future upgrades come in throughout the organization other than an elite defenseman and possibly a future number one goalie. I am not concerned about the goaltending at this moment but the defense has to be addressed now.

I agree with most of your comment. I think our expectations of our prospects need to be met with reality though. Vilardi and JAD were drafted in 2017. We are not getting any contribution from the younger rookies for several more years. They will come up when ready and hopefully contribute but that timeline is a big unknown right now.

Also we have several holes to fill or upgrade:

Top LD Man - (#1 trade priority and #1 draft priority)

RW Sniper - (Frk has that role now, hopefully he can produce once healthy but an upgrade is needed, Madden?)

Power Forward - (Brown? Mantha would be a huge add here)

Crease Clearing D man - (UFA Savard would be another big add)

Getting overal bigger and harder to play against. (Lemieux might not be the long term answer but it's a start)

Honestly AA, Clague, Lizotte, Luff, Wagner, and Iaffalo, are pretty much it for trade bait.

Vets are not leaving.

Can’t see LA adding a significant piece.

None of that other than maybe AA or Iafallo is really trade bait though. Assuming a new contract for Iafallo, those two are 2nd and 3rd on the team in ES points, and on this roster that matters. I'm not sure if they want to trade either guy.

Jagr and Iginla.

Iginla as far as a 1st, Jagr got a conditional 2nd (became a 1st) at 41, and a 2nd & 3rd at 43.

Yup, ok. They were also in the last year of their contracts though. The problem is having to account for Brown at 37, while giving up an asset to get him, before he shows he's still productive at 37.

Petersen is going to be 27 when next year starts. Quick turned 27 in Jan 2013. Was anyone calling Quick a kid at the time? Petersen is inexperienced, but he's not a kid. He's a total UFA after next year.

Just give Carter a paid year off and place him on LTIR for the last year of his contract and give him a farewell sendoff at the end of next season.

Love what he brought to the Kings before his age and injuries caught up to him, but it's time to put him out to pasture.
