I'm just too high on Turcotte/Byfield/Vilardi to make a trade for Eichel.

Only way I'd trade for Eichel is if it were a quantity for quality type trade.

On WGR today they were talking about Byfield + Turcotte for Eichel.

I'd make a trade for Vilardi + for Eichel. Or Dahlin. In a heartbeat. This team is ass and needs talent.

This year's finish will put even more pressure on Blake to be very clear about his plans for next year and beyond. Another year of regression and it should cost him his job.
They were always going to be worse this year. Its not regression. Its growing pains, all part of the rebuilding process. You lose competent vets in favor of inexperienced kids with higher upside to strive for a better end goal than what was possible with the older group. Its not difficult to understand, you just don't like it. Big deal.

If you expect an executive to tell you that in advance, you are living in a fantasy world. Why would you take a team and tell them that they are off the hook in training camp?

Another 1/4 season like this should cost him it, he shouldn't get a full year if this is the same product on the ice to start the year.

He tied himself to this coach and these players and you cannot regress year over year three years deep.

The only thing saving BLuc is COVID. If last season and this season were full length, the results would be worse.

What I expected this year: Young guys making inexperienced mistakes but visible improvement

What I got: Lifeless 1-3-1 hockey played by a roster where the majority are under 25 and under.

I'm tired of hearing about "the aging core". The aging core at this point is Kopitar, Doughty, and Brown, that's it. Doughty has been very good this year. Kopitar at times looks like he's skating with a piano on his back, but he's damn near a point per game on THIS team. Brown at his cap hit and his production is perfectly fine (although he shouldn't be a first line player anymore). "The aging core" that are still around produced what they needed to this year to be a playoff team.

The reality is this season has been even worse than it looks in the standings. Where would the Kings be without the PP being hot early in the season? Down there with Buffalo. That is literally all that separates this Kings team from being at the bottom of the league. There was ZERO improvement. At even strength, this was one of the worst and most difficult to watch seasons in L.A. Kings history, and someone needs to be held accountable.

Remember when early on last season, Kings dominated the forecheck and outshot opponents almost every night?
What happened to that forecheck?

People were expecting them to not be worse than last year and show visible improvement, and they failed at that
people were expecting to improve with replacing all of last years vets with 1st year players. some peoples expectations here are wild. LOL

There’s a good chance they will be worse next year with more youth rotating in and out of the lineup. It’s year 2.5 of a practically scorched earth rebuild...patience.

It should be year 5.

I'm sorry, it's ridiculous to give Blake and Luc that excuse because they were to dumb to realize the Kings were nowhere close to contending when they took over in 2017.

If the Kings don't make the playoffs next season it's time to move on.

Roster movement isn't going to do f***all until the culture is changed. They need to find out why every player, even old ones who we thought were done are now thriving. Even before the rebuild started, it wasn't a talent issue, it's a work ethic, and consistency issue. Pearson, Toffoli, Muzzin, Martinez, and Carter are still good players but they were shipped out because the culture sucks. They had a shot to make the playoffs this year if they just gave a little bit of effort down the stretch. They didn't even need to be dominant and they're in. They just tanked mentally like they would rather be home watching Days of our Lives.

It should be but they failed to realize the players had quit, again. I agree there should be some accountability for that. It is year 2 or 3 (since the Muzzin trade) but you're right, they should have started sooner.

The players didn't quit, (well maybe they did) but it wasn't the reason the team has lost so much. The Kings just have not had good rosters for the better part of 7 years. Blake didn't realize that, and succumbed to the same thing that cost Lombardi his job (and rightfully so), and Blake should not get the benefit of the doubt Lombardi didn't.

Kopitar, Quick, Doughty and Brown all had massive seasons in the same season, and the Kings still couldn't get home ice and got destroyed in the playoffs. That should tell you the overall talent on the roster for the past 6 seasons.

I don't agree with that. They had a decent roster but no depth. You're seeing the good players from back then succeed elsewhere. Why are the vets they traded doing good to great elsewhere if they had no talent back then?

Kopitar, Carter, Pearson, Toffoli, Brown, Muzzin, Martinez, Doughty. That is a decent amount of talent but most underperformed.

The fact that all the key players that have been traded since 2018 have gone on to greater individual success undermines your argument. Unless the culture issue is solved what makes anyone believe that the next wave of talent won't succumb to the same malaise?

The players the Kings traded, other than an exception or two are playing lesser roles than they were expected to play in LA.

Since winning the cup in 2014 the Kings have had the following finishes in goals.

18th
14th
24th
16th
30th
30th
26th

I don't know how a change in culture makes up for that much of a total lack of talent. The Kings have had one consistent first line player and first pairing d-man for quite awhile now.
