I wonder if a deal with Eichel and Skinner would bring what we have to give in return down, its a whole lot of money and term, but it makes a rebuild for Buffalo easier losing Skinners contract. This is just spitballing, because I know what a terrible year Skinner has had.

Yeah i haven't done the math but I'm sure that would handicap us in 3-4 years when the money is more important, though you could hope Skinner bounces back into a goal threat.

Based on Robitaille’s interview on ‘Soul on Ice’ it’s unlikely they move Thomas as they clearly rate him both as a player and for his intangibles.
I mean that’s fine and all but Turcotte and the like are also rated as players and for their intangibles. Thomas has a lower ceiling than the others. If you can move him for what you need, you do it.

I hope Brown rides off into the sunset this off-season...Wagner, Grundstrom or Lizotte gets claimed by Seattle and the Kings go with this lineup next season.

Kempe – Kopitar – Turcotte
Iafallo – Vilardi – Andersson
Moore – Byfield – Kupari/AA
Lemieux – Anderson-Dolan – Wagner

Exactly, lets get 3 x 10 million players on a non contending rebuilding team.

I'm pretty sure no team with multiple players with double digit cap hits has won a cup. It's 1 of the reasons I hate the Kopitar and Doughty contracts. Tough for me to feel sorry for either of them if they never have another chance to win if they weren't willing to take a discount. The Avs players seem to buy in, MacKinnon has already stated he will take less than market value on his next deal because he wants to win.

That is f***ing terrible.
Yes, but I understand it from their perspective. Two unprovens for a proven.
AEG isn't going to spend over $30 million on 3 players.
Probably yes. This is an underrated point.

AEG is a live events company. How many live events have been going on over the past year? They've been bleeding cash and have laid off staff. They're probably not looking to significantly expand the payroll of their sports teams right now.

Based on what we've seen from Blake so far, I'm expecting the only off season moves to be a low risk signing or trade. Only potential big move would be a young forward / prospect for an equivalent young dman.

Who knows Toronto might win it soon with three players getting paid over ten mil.

But regardless Kings aren't in any cap trouble with Kopi and Doughty. It seems like a difficult argument to make that their cap hits are the reason we haven't been good. I can think of worse cap hits the Kings have had over the years.

They could still be good with those cap hits if they had legit ELC talent on the roster but the last meaningful ELC season this team had was Kempe's 2018 season. Look at the 2014 team and you have Toffoli and Pearson playing big roles on ELCs and Muzzin basically still being on one at $1MM a season.

Doughty's cap hit didn't even start until the 2020 season so they still finished next to last in the entire NHL on his old cap hit the year before.

They've got one more year of Vilardi, Anderson and JAD on their ELCs. Two more years of Bjornfot and Kupari and three more years on the rest of the people that most likely matter.

I've said that Blake should be looking in to Eichel or he isn't doing his job; however, there is a price that is too much. Not sure how much Reinhart's next contract would be, but I like the idea of less of a transaction and cap cost on a 20+ goal C/RW as it adds legit skill to this team while also leaving enough ammo in assets and future cap space to maybe land a bigger fish later on.

I do feel that continually being around a losing culture/team is bad for development so I am hoping for some additions to help these kids be put in a good position once it is time to break in to the league and establish themselves.

The complaint about 3 players with 10 million dollar cap hits is legit. But the NHL is also getting new tv contracts that dwarf the old ones. We have no idea how much the cap could end up rising. Like when the NBA got a new tv contract and average players were given huge contracts just because they had the cap space to do it.

If the Kings wait on Eichel, I don’t want to overpay, and the cap goes up from the tv contracts. Then there will be more than just LA and NYR that can afford his contract.

NBC contract was $200 mil a year, ESPN is $400 mil a year with TNT also paying a year for their games. The cap should go up.

It takes more than a couple of guys to build the new culture and Thomas is one of the key guys in that. Don’t get me wrong, everybody has value and if that value is met they can be moved but I think the organisation seeing Thomas as a key piece of the puzzle and I’m in agreement on that. I think he’s criminally underrated on this board and I think he’d be treated as a high value asset if he was discussed in trade talks, but you are right you have to give to get.

I’m high on him too but I’d easily move him and a couple of seconds or a future first for Reinhart.

I'm just too high on Turcotte/Byfield/Vilardi to make a trade for Eichel.

Only way I'd trade for Eichel is if it were a quantity for quality type trade.

On WGR today they were talking about Byfield + Turcotte for Eichel.
NAFC.

Easy for him to say when he's still 25 and hasn't won yet. He gets 1 or 2 in the next couple years, before he has to re-sign, and his nobility might change a bit.

There is no trade package that the kings can offer for Eichel that satisfies the Sabers desire, without gutting the future of this organization while simultaneously gutting any sort of culture direction that may be in the process of being cultivated.

Stay the course, Especially if turcotte is the ask from anyone. That kid the the set of balls this organization has needed since Rick fell by the wayside.

Well that sucked.

Just remember that things can change quickly.

In 16/17 the Avalanche went 22–56–4. One of the worst records in the cap era. That was with MacKinnon, Rantanen, Duchene, Landeskog, Barrie, Johnson all on the roster.

This year's finish will put even more pressure on Blake to be very clear about his plans for next year and beyond. Another year of regression and it should cost him his job.
