Yeah the track record with drafting pure shutdown D like Kleven is absolutely terrible.

I would have been fine spending one of our 3rds on him, maybe the DAL 2nd. but packaging a 2nd+3rd to move up to take him was a bad gamble.
They did spend a third to get him. I’m not sure what you’re saying.

He wouldn’t have lasted that long

Well then you pick one of the many players in that range who project to be just as good. And add it to the other one you picked a few spots earlier. Kleven was far from in a tier by himself in the 44-74 range by most accounts.

I guess the Sens thought differently. Time will tell if they got it right.

Any notable European games to keep an eye out for today?

Liiga - Järventie and Thomson are playing against JYP right now. Järventie scored the opening goal for Ilves.

SHL - Eric Engstrand and Malmo play at 2PM EST against Skelleftea. Engstrand is the 13th forward today.

Fjordkraft-Ligaen - Rudolfs Balcers and Stavanger also play at 2 PM EST and they face off against Stjernen.

National League - Erik Brannstrom (Langnau) plays against Fribourg at 2:45 PM EST.

Jarventie is already getting me hyped, going from hughlight clips alone he reminds me of Silfverberg when he was playing in Sweden.

I thought him and Rundblad were both going to be stars for Ottawa, lol. self-owned

Silfverberg is still a good NHL player but as it was evident in his rookie season, he was never going to be a star. He is a bit passive and lacks execution quickness. Jarventie seems to be a lot quicker and to have more offensive talent so chances are on his side for now as he is pretty young but there's a long road ahead to become at least as good as Silfverberg

Rundblad I'm not sure, just could never adjust to the smaller NA surface but for some reason, he's a guy that only was able to play NHL hockey on one side of the ice, which doesn't work out in the end.

But that's the thing... Based on who?

Based on the Sens, Kleven was worth moving up.

Don't forget, everybody in the hockey world has a very different draft list. I bet teams spend a lot of time coming to a concensus within their organization so imagine outside.

Teams spend a lot of $$$ on their scouting. If they would rather go with some kind of media and bloggers pre-draft lists concensus, then anybody could do the job for just 1 salary. Just need to compile, do an average and go with that list. Call the shots to Pierre.

An assist for Thompson Ilves lead 4-1 in 2nd

Good to see. I was never high on him but still holding out hope that he can be a valuable and somewhat unique player in the bottom half of the lineup

Jarventie has that innate ability to find soft spots in the offensive zone.

You aren't learning that if you don't have it

He's always open or getting open, and if he doesnt have a shot he's good at finding the open man. Havent seen "dynamic" playmaking but his decision making always looks very good to me.

He blows chunks right now. Hopefully he can improve his stock to become a 5/6 D man who can play on the second PP.

Lol, he's never impressed me, he's never looked awful to me either, though. He was ok in the WJC, not great but not bad either. Agreed, though, he is hopefully a 4/5/6 guy who can be a trigger man on the PP. I feel like there is not much I've seen to distinguish him from Kleven tbh, although my viewing on both are pretty limited.

I noticed that on the rebound goal he scored last week too. He finds places that are high scoring positions for different scenarios. Any player can just go to the slot all the time but Jarventie finds spots that he can score from according to the play that is unfolding. And he seems to do it while being ready to get the puck off quickly. That's hockey smarts.
