Okay so even Gms think he's average now which is true. I don't understand however why he's the undisputed #1. Shouldn't we giving others goalies a shot at it, rather than Quick just because his contract sucks?

I think we’ll be seeing more of the other goalies this season. He will be still labeled number one but I think we’ll be seeing more of Campbell and if he doesn’t pan out then also Petersen. The season is long, you’ll never know what will happen.

Christ, who cares! We have much bigger issues that goaltending. If Quick sucks, he will be relegated to backup....if he’s good, awesome for us.

Nah, as long as he'sserviceable as a back-up and we don't need the cap space he's fine. If we get into a situation where we need space before his contract is up, then he becomes allergic to the blue crease paint or something.
How dare you come in this thread with rational reasoning.

Because like everyone else that had a garbage year last year, he's going to get an opportunity to prove himself this year. The Kings aren't going anywhere of note with or without him this season, you might want to just consider accepting it is what it is.

Basically confirms JAD getting big, important minutes in Ontario and I can't disagree.

As he should. Kupari and JAD in Ontario isn’t a bad thing. Eyssimont, Luff, Rempal, Sodergran. Probably the best group we’ve ever had down there. Not to mention that defense. Possible that Lizotte and Prokhorkin go down as well.

Grundstrom has been... underwhelming. Not terrible, but I thought he showed more last year. Not sure where he belongs atm.
I agree he hasn't looked as polished. Not sure if it's just him or trying to get the system down. I still think he sticks. Kings need that type of player. He did have a couple of assists in his first game.

I went to the meet the players tonight in ONT. There are virtually no centers on the current team, with the exception of Sutter and Rymsha. Pretty much guarantees Kupari and JAD are sent down are the 1 and 2C with PP time, so they will get minutes. Reign could struggle offensively until the first year players adapt.

I think many of you are going to be rather disappointed in Ben Hutton by January, maybe December.
Mainly because everyone is expecting him to be a 3/4 guy when his ceiling is a 4/5 guy. He will get slaughtered for not being as good as Muzzin. Blake will move him for a 3rd and then he will get slaughtered by the same people for not matching the return he got for Muzz.

He’s someone that can eat some NHL minutes so we don’t expose those that aren’t ready yet. If he emerges as a genuine middle pairing guy then it’s an unlikely but nice surprise.

We get you don’t want Quick, it’s the subject of most of your posts.

We are going to concede a lot of goals this year whomever plays in net. Neither Campbell or Peterson have yet had to carry the workload needed from a genuine No1. So it makes sense to use Quick to allow Campbell to be eased into No1 minutes. If they can split the year 50/50 then that’s a success, any extra workload from Campbell is a bonus. A Campbell/Peterson tandem behind what is going to be a poor side risks both goalies development and it’s a risk we don’t need to take. Trading Quick at the deadline would be ok, as hopefully Campbell has established himself, but let’s not count on it. It’s another example of people saying he sucks, but then expecting Blake to be able to move him.

Maybe we trade Quick, but if he hasn’t bounced back we have the option of buying him out after this year. We’d then be able to plan for a year of a 60/40m split between Campbell and Peterson for the 20/21 season before Peterson takes over for 21/22 (noting we could lose Campbell).

If they push Quick out of the way sooner or he’s traded then it’s gravy. However, they have to plan for a properly structured transition given what they are playing behind and the fact Quick has a contract.

He's the 3rd highest paid player on the team. Still tied for the 4th highest paid goalie in the league. He drops below Martinez in salary next year though. Like Toffoli, he's going to get a chance to bounce back from last year. Toffoli, because we all want to see Blake get something for him. Quick, because there's plenty of time for him to become the backup. Iafallo and Kempe will be making more than Carter next year too. Just an interesting tidbit.

Also wouldn't say Quick is undisputed. He's the assumed #1. He hasn't lost that job title yet, but he now can lose it. 5 years ago, 3 years ago, there was no opportunity for him to do that. When Jones was still here, he was not going to be beat out Quick, regardless. Today, it wouldn't be crazy for Campbell to end up up 41 games, even if Quick isn't hurt.

Quick looked good last night against a group that should resemble what the Ducks will look like next week. That was my key take away last night.

Off the top of my head, I don't think your salary rankings are correct. Doesn't Quick make $5.8M per?

Do any of those sneakers belong to Vilardi?

Salary ultimately doesn’t matter that much. Quick has the 11th-highest cap hit for a goaltender. He has the 5th-highest cap hit on the team behind Doughty, Kopitar, Kovalchuk, and Brown.
