Everyone? Certainly not. UFA rentals? Likely. Toffoli is likely gone. Martinez is a maybe though I think he'd be good for the retool. Clifford stays. Lewis is like Martinez. Hutton, LaDue, Forbort, Ryan? If you can get anything of value why not. The tougher guys will be guys with term. I think if you can find a taker for Carter or Quick you have to.

It also depends on how marinated the kids are by then, as well as the status of pending dudes like Turcotte and Vilardi.
I think the stagnant salary cap is also affecting the ability to move guys with term. Unless they are elite (1st line FWD or top pair D), nobody seems to want to add salary beyond the current season.
Of course, that often changes at the deadline when teams are trying to load up for a playoff run.

If Carter can have a solid season you move him no matter what the return is as long as long term salary isn’t coming back. Get him off the books and create space.

I think we'll see some moves even before the TDL.
We have 8 UFAs + Carter, Quick and Martinez that also need to be moved. I doubt all that gets moved on one day or even this year. We should be on the same plan regardless, sign the pending UFAs that we feel are part of the future , sell off the vets(get what we can) and integrate the prospects when they are ready.

If Hutton plays anywhere like he has the past two games, he gets a contract along with Clifford.

I would re-sign Toffoli if he hits 20 goals this year.

Kings will probably walk or trade Ryan, LaDue, Lewis, Forbort. and Kempe.

I totally agree with this type of thinking but would management is a whole other kettle of fish so to speak. Blake may try and rush the rebuild and actually let it role with either doing nothing or adding cheap

I don't know. I get the paranoia aspect as a fellow paranoid Kings fan who grew up with some pretty badly constructed Kings teams. However, Blake seems pretty set on rebuilding. He's built a fantastic prospect pool. He signed TMac for 5 years. You don't do that if you're going to burn a coach for not getting the team back to the playoffs quickly.

Plus, it's not like we have the cap space to make any significant adds without selling off older, expensive players.

I think the only way they do anything is if the remaining veterans are leading the charge by themselves, which Blake has essentially admitted isn't going to happen.

I think Walker has earned a bottom pairing roster spot. I'm fine with MacD or Roy as 7th. Pretty much done with LaDue, just makes far too many mistakes. Ryan doesn't impress. Let Mikey play big minutes in Ontario with Durzi ,Clague, Brickley and Strand. Hutton is interesting because he's decent and is only 26. Curious to see how his season unfolds. I'm hoping a team besides us has a rash of injuries on the defense. Should make guys like LaDue, Ryan and especially if healthy enough to play, Forbort. Kind of refreshing to actually have some questions about the roster.

That's best case. All of those ingredients coming together is probably a long shot.

Plus they have to hit the floor next year anyway. They don't have many guys, if any, that will break the bank on their next contracts. Even a portion of the Richards penalty is going away next year. If it's not Carter, it's going to have to be some other UFA warm body they'll have to sign. Unless Blake could actually get an asset for him, where is the urgency to get him off the books? Create space for what? They already didn't make the Marleau trade to get a 1st. As it stands, they have no interest in doing a deal like that. They're going to have space. They currently have $5m in space.

The camp roster is now at 29 (that also includes Forbort who will go on IR as soon as the season starts).

Anderson-Dolan, Kupari, Lizotte, LaDue, MacDermid, M. Kempe, Prokhorkin and Joakim Ryan are the names to keep an eye on.

General but honest question for all my fellow king fans What happens if we are in the playoff hunt at the deadline do we still sell off everyone? I can seriously see our new speed catching teams off guard for the first part of the season. I could see us anywhere from 16th to 20 th with this type of lineup.
Well if we're top 4 in the West in January I can't see AEG letting players be sold off, but we shouldn't be trading away futures either.

If we're in the 6th - 10th spot we should stay the course. Any UFA that can bring back a 1st should be traded. The rest on a case by case basis depending on what they can return or whether they'll resign.

Exactly the guy to keep up and scratch when you need to. Let the kids play until the deadline when the deadweight is gone and they have spots.

As much as I LOVE the guy for everything he has done, I have to say that the 13th forward spot should be given to Trevor Lewis at this stage of his career. If the Kings had solid aspirations I would consider him a regular, but I would take a look to the future now.

Iafallo - Kopitar - Brown
Kovalchuk - Lizotte - Carter
Grundstrom - Amadio - Toffoli
Clifford - A. Kempe - Wagner
Lewis

Hutton - Doughty
Martinez - Roy
MacDermid - Walker
LaDue, Ryan

Not necessarily those combinations or pairings, but those are the players I break camp with at this point. I know Bjornfot and JAD have outplayed almost all of their competition, but Lizotte edges JAD out simply because he dared to reach out and take a NHL role. Perhaps JAD edges out Grundstrom.

Bjornfot has been so damn exciting to watch, and the temptation to keep him up is very strong, but a year of physical development would help him.

I'd rather have MacD as a 13th forward then Mario Kempe. Pure filler. I'd rather have him contributing to an Ontario playoff push.

I also don't mind MacD acting as the bodyguard for all of the youth in Ontario. It is needed more in the AHL and, to be fair, he's probably more useful in that role to the franchise long term. It just severely impacts my entertainment level.

pitch a shutout...
get demoted...
okay...

It never mattered what Petersen did in camp. An argument can be made that a great camp might win a couple guys a spot, but he wasn't one of them. The day he signed his contract, and the first year was 2-way, there was no other outcome.

Don’t understand Mario Kempe - he’s 31.

He's doing what he was signed to do.

Just keep in mind that Forbort is a career +12 and Hutton is a career -75 and both have played about 260 games or so, and I’m sure Forbort faced more first lines than Hutton. Is Hutton better offensively? Of course!!! But people don’t seem to even begin to understand how good Forbort is defensively.

The Kings were a top defensive team up until this past season (which Vancouver hasn't been in a very long time).

Doughty was a -34 last season. Does that mean he's worse than Forbort? I think we should know by now that stat category is reflective of the team and less so the individual.

Forbort is an extremely limited player who was put in a role that is way over his head, and it suffered as a result.

Someone could make a decent compilation video of all the times Forbort was beaten wide last season because of his lumbering skating.

I think Hutton puts on a show this year. I remember the Kings playing the Canucks a few years back and either Fox or Miller said he is a rising star. I’ve watched both games and he has made an impression. Fox even said he was the best player against Ducks.

Yep. Bad back and all, Forbort's biggest problem last year was his partner.

Hutton gave me some Willie Mitchell vibes. Not sure if it's because of the fact he came from Vancouver and his size. I think he's going to be a good 2nd/3rd pairing dman. Don't think he should be next to Doughty, but I also don't think Forbort should be either. Forbort is not a top pairing dman, and until guys like Mikey Anderson and Bjornfot are ready, it looks like the Kings will be trotting guys like Forbort out there, unfortunately.
