Off the top of my head, I don't think your salary rankings are correct. Doesn't Quick make $5.8M per?

That's his cap hit. He's making $7m this year.

Salary ultimately doesn’t matter that much. Quick has the 11th-highest cap hit for a goaltender. He has the 5th-highest cap hit on the team behind Doughty, Kopitar, Kovalchuk, and Brown.

I would disagree that salary doesn't matter. That's the real cash that's being paid. Existentially, it's the most important thing. Players know who is bringing home what. That's the pecking order, not cap hit. Cap hit matters when you're trying to win. In general though, salaries are pretty much how rosters are determined. Teams are handing out guaranteed NHL money, and the guys with 1-way contracts, who make the most, tend to be on the NHL team, and tend to play the most. Unless a young guy is stupidly special, you sit down and wait your turn.

It's too bad NHL.TV subscription does not come with a stream for AHL games. I would pay extra for a package that inlcuded

AHL launches new AHLTV streaming platform

boom

Go to AHL TV and sign up. You can sign up just to follow one team (the Reign if you want) for all their games or even decide if you just want home or away games. It comes out to .88 cents a game if you just follow the Reign for all 68 games. I met Cameron Close last night (the Reign play by play man) at the Reign season ticket holder event and he said they are really excited about the upgrades to the AHL TV experience this year. All Reign games will be in HD, they will start incorporating graphics, they will have two cameras for the home games and he will do about 10 road games also this season. Those games he doesn't cover on the road, you will have the opposing teams PBP man. Cameron is an outstanding play by play guy, he got a lot of kudos from Kings fans when he did the rookie tourney with Darryl Evans a few weeks ago. I watch the games on my home computer when I don't attend in person. It's a great way to follow the prospects (Anderson, Kupari, JAD, Durzi etc) if you cannot attend.

This looks like the opening night roster. I would expect Mario Kempe to be the 13th forward unless a miracle happens with Prohorkin.

If the 18 year old on D makes it then LaDue and MacD are the extras.

Doughty-Bjornfot
Martinez-Roy
Ryan-Hutton

Walker goes down to the AHL unless the Kings waive Ryan and Walker stays up.

Roy and Walker don’t need waivers but LaDue, Ryan and MacD do. Kings are so loaded with D in in Ontario and we are all assume they will keep 2 D.

Safe to say this may be the roster going into the season?

My guess is Lizotte and Bjornfot have played well, so they reward them with the last pre-season game with the main team, and then send them to Ontario and Sweden respectively. Then maybe Grundstrom also goes down, because if those are the 8 wingers, where is he playing? Lizotte and Grundstrom are the first call-ups. Go with a 13/8 split to start. There's already 9 defensemen with the Reign.

When TM said some had pushed their way onto the team already, I think he was talking about Lizotte and Bjornfot specifically. Lizotte I could see going down, but I would be surprised to see Bjornfot sent back. It's easy to recall someone from Ontario. Sweden, not so much. If Bjornfot is lights out again tonight, there is no way he's going to be sent back.

If I had to guess who the extras are it would be at least Porkins and Ryan. Mostly for a longer look for both.

Like Bjornfot a lot but Lizotte is tiny and gets muscled off the puck too easy. I'd send him down and keep the likes of Prokhorkin,M Kempe and even M Frk. Wagner has not impressed me during pre-season play either. Grundstrom is asked to play LW when he's a RWinger...why? Frk is a LWinger who's asked to play RWing...Kings are doing the same to Fagemo,Kaliyev,Sodergran and Shafigullin when he comes over...

Wow, I feel like I've seen that completely differently. Lizotte is tiny but he straight gets under people and leverages them up like Voynov used to. It's uncanny. Guy is a puckhound in tight quarters.

Disagree there, He's little but a tenacious little mofo.

I think I get what he's saying in that Lizotte gets knocked down a lot but he is still amazing at making plays either from his knees or popping back up so quickly it takes everyone by surprise and he STILL walks out with the puck

so he gets knocked down, but he gets up again?

Watched the game last night vs VGK on TV. The only main reason why I watched it was to see what Bjornfot is all about. I am blown away... he seems to make the right play every single time in his own end. The poise and confidence that he has already is scary to see.

Him and Doughty played perfectly together and it seemed like they have been partners for years. The only negative about him is that you can just see physically(at times) that he is still a kid. I noticed a couple times him trying to hit a guy but didn't even budge him. HOWEVER it didn't cause him to fall out of position or anything. He plays the angles perfectly when defending players

I'm officially a fan of him. Honestly I dont see how he doesnt play in LA this season. I know it was only 1 game I watched but him and Doughty were your guys best dmen and best pairing

Lizotte wasn't very effective yesterday. Yes he skated a lot but...got knocked on his ass 3-4 times I'm thinking! He looks like a very young Michael Cammalleri! Cammalleri spent time in the minors with Dustin Brown during the strike of 2004-5 and they both lit up the AHL. This helped their games tremendously. Don't think either becomes the player they became without exposure and time in the minors! Of course Brownie playing with Kopi helped a lot too!!!
