i do play the victim, but i feel victimized reading this crap. i genuinely think this thread would be a lot better if everyone ditched the chicken little routine and we stayed on mission. it is painful to read the same hot takes restated over and over. we get it. you are pessimistic benning will make the right move. ok. what else?

I'm not a big fan of freaking out over rumors or theoretical trades either, I just find the whole 'stupidhead' stuff a bit embarrassing. Like if a friend started wearing a kangol hat in 2019 or something.

well this is the offseason ufa/trade thread (currently titled the non-management thread). i think we're here to discuss ufa/trades as opposed to express our opinions about management. so i would say discussions and speculation about offseason trades or ufas, positive or negative, are obviously cool. otoh, while there's obviously room for overlap, if your only point is to say "benning has sucked in the past so i speculate he is going to make offseason ufa/trade moves that suck" ad nauseum in relation to each new piece of information it is hard to see how that is not really the management thread.

but i am sure i am wrong and probably breaking a rule by making this observation.
This kind of post got me labeled as “Benning supporters”

It’s either “everything is going end up in the worst way” or “you’re a Benning supporters”
It’s like there’s no middle ground of “wait and see” or “what are the potential outcomes?”

The past definitely and always will be an alarm, but I genuinely don’t freak out until things actually happen.

Oh I agree, and I don’t think this place has freaked out yet. This is just the sideways feeling you get in your gut when something bad is looming.

If this was the “who do we pick at 10” thread I’d say ya, the negative expectations are over the top. But this is Benning + Pro scouting + Defenseman + a mountain of rumours and buzz about know “bad + big name” D. There’s no other reasonable take IMO.

i don't even know what a kangol hat is. think of me as your dad torturing you by using an annoying outdated phrase and you are not far off the mark.

I will say this, the last two major decision JB has made do sparks a little bit of hope of redemption.

1. Traded Gudbranson, a mistake he made for a clearly underperforming Tanner Pearson.

2. Not resigning Edler. Yes, JB failed to convince Edler to waive his NTC and that is 100% his fault. But me and a couple of non-Canucks fans friends of mine, we all thought Jim would give what ever Edler’s camp asked for.

Ok so then this is a statement:

Myers and gardiner being signed are bad cause they are bad players defensively that wont replace edler defensively. Their contracts they will get are gonna be bad as people will overpay for their worth

Also benning is a Moron

The only bad feeling I have is the potential of overpaying for Tyler Myers
I don’t mind overpaying Gardiner and I think Zaitzev can be effective in a more offensive role like he did in his rookie seasons so it depends on what we pay for him.
The Lucic rumour is completely BS to me. The guy lives here in off season, had a terrible season in Edmonton and media had to found a away to generate some clicks.

i do mind though that they didn't force the issue in january if they intended to play hardball. i don't know how much behind the scenes stuff happened, but i would have liked to see edler expressly asked to waive if it was clear he wanted more than we would pay.

and as much as i like gudbranson trade, that deal kind of fell in our lap after rutherford kicked the tires on multiple other dmen he wanted more. i wouldn't attribute much skill to it. i think the pens were just trying to trade pearson for a dman.

All of Vancouver is freaking out over Benning gearing up to make his big trade. There was a poll this morning on 1040 and like 88% of ~2,000 people said they were nervous about the "bad contracts" the Canucks would add in free agency. There is no way you cannot be a least slightly freaking out about this because our management team makes horrible trades and free agent signings. You should actually be freaking out till further notice because it would actually be abnormal for them to make a good move.

I think they didn’t play hardball earlier because:
1. They thought they could squeeze into the playoffs. ( or Aquaman thought for that matter)

2. JB is too much of a old school nice guy

as someone who hates ufa season, i also think that nothing good can come of overpaying those guys in an artificially restricted and inflated market.

i'd much rather we picked up breadcrumbs and cast offs on july 3rd, and focus for now on making a trade or two for mid range dmen.

i wish we had traded edler for value in february because i don't want to lose him for nothing, and i also don't want him around as long as he will be around if we give him anything close to market value.

When 1/2 your proof points are bad players we’ve successfully “moved on” from ... ya, I’d be scared too.

Unless the argument is there isn’t anyone being considered today that we couldn’t probably give away after 1-3 years of watching them struggle mightily ...

Then congrats, you win this round damn you.

Eriksson hasn't been moved yet. Let's see the trash we have to take to unload him first. The whole Gagner situation was a cluster**** (having him play for the Marlies to placate a bum who ends up badmouthing management anyways,)

Moved Carcone and Gudbranson and LEPISIC for Pearson and Leivo

LEPISIC has 18 in 45 games with the King’s playing 14 mins a night while leivo 18 points in 49 games playing 15:55 a night. So that deal when you look at it completely is a wash

Garner got replaced by spooner don’t forget

And Juloevi and macewen haven’t made the team yet; not really motte but whatever.

Don’t just make up things about youngsters making the team
