He is destined to go on day one of the draft. I don't think any team will pass on a guy who consistently has been putting the puck in the net at every level he's played in.
I can't see taking him at 5. If the Kings do, it's a bold move and am behind what they do in the draft now these days, after the last 3 drafts, they have drafted well.
The players that are 5'7" 160 have to be elite skaters, but I think to succeed at that size they must be tenacious and be fearless. Even still, look at how the Avs contained Gaudreau. They hit him every chance and played him physical and neutralized him. And it has been said he is the best at moving his feet in the world....so if there is a player that is close to Caulfield, but has 2 inches and 20 lbs on him, I still go for that player....but Caulfield has the ability to produce and score in any game. I am still hoping for Turcotte or Byram.
Regarding the play of Lizotte (tiny sample size, no pun intended) vs Rempal. I think Lizotte
will probably be the one to succeed, as he looked tenacious and fearless out there...compared
to Rempal, who showed he could skate and had some skills - but he seemed to lack the tenacity
and playing fearless elements. He seemed to hesitate a few times as well. If you're 5'7" and 165,
the only way to succeed (in the NHL) is to have tenacity, play fearless and to be quick not only on your skates, but quick to make the play. An extra second to make the play, an NHL player will take you out or impede the play, you're trying to make....this is not just a small player thing, but more
important for them, as they will get clobbered. ...and then later could be playing scared or tentative.
This is how Kane succeeds - great skater, top end skills, elusive and fast to make plays.
