For the personnel they currently have, they are using him right.

He's behind Provorov and Sanheim on the left, and we've seen that the coaching staff is not keen on moving away from the L/R alignment unless they really have to.
They're definitely not using him right. Not even close.

Not getting into this again. It's been covered a thousand times.

They really don’t have a choice.

What do you mean?

Provy/Niskanen
Sanheim/Myers
Hagg/Braun

That's all L/R, and when Ghost is back, I'm guessing he'll be paired with Braun or Myers.

They could certainly have any number of combinations but we've seen they really don't want to move away from balanced pairings.

Dumba is off a major injury and has struggled this year. I don't think his value is that high tbh
And Ghost’s value is what exactly...? Major injuries himself (currently injured), consecutive down years production wise. I said what I said as more of a reflection of Ghost’s trade value than Dumba’s.

In a vacuum I wouldn’t make that trade. But in a vacuum I also wouldn’t play Ghost on the third pair or demote him off the top PP, but here we are.

The Flyers can’t fit a Tic Tac under the cap either.

Sure, it's been covered, and that's your opinion. We disagree, so no sense rehashing it.

I think there's a stubbornness when it comes to Ghost and the PP. Ghost is definitely the most agile PP QB we have, and he has a track record of success, but Therrien just doesn't seem to want to go there.

Even with that, their PP% is 2nd best over the last 5 years, so what do I know? If they can find success some other way, I'm happy.

This might sound conspiratorial, but it might even be a bigger-picture test to see what the PP looks like in a post-Ghost world. If they can find success without relying on him, then they can feel comfortable moving him.

I'm not advocating either way - if trading him can truly make the team better, then so be it. If the trade is a bad one, then it's no bueno.

Right. They aren’t going to play a RHD on the left side to fit Ghost into a top 4 spot. That’s the point. It has as much to do with management as it does the coaches. This was explained before the season when they acquired two veteran RHD and had Myers and Friedman behind them. They were fine with dressing Ghost on the third pair, a position he is overqualified for. People called it out then.

Had they acquired just one RHD, you could have had the flexibility to move Ghost up in the lineup.

Just spit balling here but I wonder if the Flyers and Wild would be interested in a swap of young defenseman. Maybe not during the season but in the off season.

Ghost for Dumba trade.

maybe the Flyers try to find a way to get Kirill Kaprisov in the deal? Just a thought. And of course the Fletcher connection.

I'm keeping Ghost at his cap hit instead of figuring out who else we have to trade to fit Dumba's 7+ mil cap hit. That's a trade that digs a hole elsewhere on the roster to make it work, and the difference between Dumba and Ghost isn't big enough to justify that when our forward group is already spread so thin.

Any news on Patrick? Is he practicing with a team or still just skating on his own?

If they move on from Braun after this season, maybe Ghost gets on the 2nd pairing, with Friedman and Hagg or a different UFA LHD.

Or we could resign Gudas :)

He’s not getting a promotion after spending the last ~1.5 years on the third pair with declining production. If they expected he was going to have some resurgence with the usage he’s getting, we are doomed.

He certainly won't see better usage under AV.

Agreed. And because of that, his trade value is probably at its low point.

For that reason, I don't think there's any way fans would be happy with the return for Ghost.

I read it the same as though it was scored against us while we were PK'ing :(.... Brain fart

But this description from NHL.com seems to indicate that you were right and I was wrong...

"A player is awarded a "plus" each time he is on the ice when his Club scores an even-strength or shorthanded goal. He receives a "minus" if he is on the ice for an even-strength or shorthanded goal scored by the opposing Club. The difference in these numbers is considered the player's "plus-minus" statistic."

My post mentioned PPGA (so when we're PKing), so according to that description, you were right. PPGA do not count against +/-.

It was the Hayes line that got caved in on Saturday.
Not saying it isn’t a good line. Just in the past those three start off well and then have issues. I like the way the play together. It may be a home and away thing. Something we have struggled with all season.

Galchenyuk is available. Anyone thinks Fletcher would go after him?

Fletcher shouldn’t go after him. Galchenyuk is a Phil Kessel-esque defensive black hole. Hockey sense is pretty iffy too.
