I had no idea general managers move players based on fan opinions. Sure, Dowd is fine on a great team, just like Vegas turned McNabb into something serviceable.
Its telling that he still gets run out there, he seems to have TMac's vote of confidence. Lack of production is disappointing but that might be explained by his need to improve his skating, conditioning and build more strength/muscle. The guy is going to be on the roster through this year and part of next so he'll get every opportunity to prove he belongs.
As for waiving him, i'll say this again... who is replacing Amadio at the 4C?? JAD? he isnt physically ready and it showed pretty clearly in his call up. Kupari? he blew out his knee and had his development delayed at least a year. Thomas/Madden/Turcotte they have yet to play a pro game. So waiving him for nothing isnt an option, especially when we clearly dont have anyone that can replace him today.

Kopitar
Vilardi
Turcotte
Lizotte

Carter
JAD
Thomas
Madden

Some won’t make it. Some may go to wing. He will get pushed out tho.

Next year may be his last...even if he has a better camp than others.

I don’t hate him. Just don’t think he has much future on this team.
Turcotte/Madden/JAD/Thomas have yet to even play a pro game so they're not even close to being mentioned in any NHL lineup. All 4 of those guys can/might/will move to the wings for various reasons.
It wouldn't surprise me if Turcotte was put at LW in a top 6 role to help ease the transition and same goes for Madden. Circling back, Turcotte is the only untouchable of those 4 to help the Kings get a prime player which will eventually happen. Carter is also moving to the wing, likely on Vilardi's left to bring a bit more speed to that line.

If the LA Kings Dip Into 2020 College Free Agent Market

Marc Michaelis – Center / Left Wing, Minnesota State Mankato
From what we’ve gathered, Michaelis is the Kings No. 1 target. They were interested at this time last season before he decided to return for his senior season – and their interest remains high. He’s a left shot from Mannheim, Germany. In addition to serving as the team captain for the past several years, Michaelis has increased his goal and point production every season, even with missing a few weeks earlier this season with an injury. Now 23 years old, he previously represented Germany in the U-20 and U-18 World Juniors. Any thought of a pro contract will still be several weeks away, as the Mavericks are one of the top college team’s in the country and could be playing playoff hockey well into early April.

If he is a gritty kid the nickname is already there "Mannheim Steamroller"!

Just basing this off of highlights and stats..
But this kid looks really, really good! his skating, skills, vision and finishing ability look NHL ready. Would be an absolutely great addition to our prospect pool and could pull off a, Iafallo/Lizotte

Anyone else hear Stoll say he thinks Fagemo could play next year?

Ferraro mentioned him too.

I feel like there is a fear on HFKings of bringing these kids in all of a sudden.

Heard it about Anderson too. That he wasn’t ready.

If Turcotte and Madden sign I think they can steal a spot. Fagemo comes over he may have a legit shot. Bjornfort of course. JAD is always talked about respectfully. Grundstrom has elements LA needs.

Kaliyev is in a tough spot but why not give him two or three games?

LA is turning the keys over to select youth. I think if the talent and determination is there, they will get a shot. Not gonna be handed freely but opportunity is sure as heck there.

I also believe in the AHL and NHL being a fit issue for some guys.

Just seeing a lot of fear and backlash when talking prospects lately.

Again, the Kings are transitioning. This is what the rebuild is meant to do. Not all will be in LA next year but it is exciting to see some of these possibilities approaching.

While I don't disagree with any of those sentiments, especially giving them a cup of coffee towards the end of a shitty ass season, the player's play should always dictate wether they still stay up or move back down to work on their game.

When you keep them up when their play doesn't dictate that, that's when you run into ruining their developement.

Exactly this.

And these are perfect incubation conditions for a guy like, say, Anderson. I don't think anyone who saw Mikey this year in Ontario would have predicted this play at the NHL level. It's worth giving guys cups of coffee to see how their games translate, and send them back with things to learn (and an AHL team to take to the playoffs), so they can steal a spot from a guy--not just be auto-pencilled into a role. If they can't beat the players people hate on the roster, they're just in line to be the next whipping boy.

Here’s my thing with Anderson. Guy played a big role in two championships with his college team. He didn’t go directly to the Kings. Also captained WJC right? Yes it is good timing for him and their needs to be more evaluation. Just feel like a guy like that is pretty obvious can be a piece moving forward. LA likely sheltered him from a craptastic season too by having him in the AHL. It’s almost like each prospect should be taken on an individual basis no? There are a few on here who seem to think they know better then the gleam-able tidbits coming from the organization. Starting to be irritating.

Oh, certainly. I guess I was just echoing the sentiment that having the structure in place to have the flexibility to move them to their appropriate level for development is clutch. If you just throw guys in, you get the Oilers/Sabres. If you wait too long, you waste time. Having the luxury of having, as a different example, Vilardi on the big club but being able to send him down is huge. Clague came up, picked up some things, went down and went to work. It's been a fantastic year from that standpoint and the Reign's 2nd half has shown major growth.

Wonder if there's any chance in snagging Lias Andersson from the Rangers...would be nice to unite him with Bjornfot and Kempe. Sounds like he had a rough ride in NYR, whether it was hazing or overblown.

Was there rumblings of a bit of an attitude issue with him? LA should look into him and Puljujarvi IF the price is not absurd. Agree that it needs to be considered.

I think it's interesting that the college defensemen - Walker, Roy and Anderson, seem to be able to adapt better, than the CHL defensemen (even at the AHL level) Clague, Durzi, Strand (all of them, you hear they really need to work on their zone play and defense) ...although LaDue was sporadic. I think his issue was not so much skill and pace, but confidence and not being abrasive / intense enough. I suppose this is kind of nutshelling it, but the college defensemen seem to adapt to structure and pro play.

Martinez adapted very quickly too. Walker was a college free agent and Roy was a 7th round pick, and yet they are now excelling in the NHL. Hopefully, Hults signs and quickly adapts to pro game in Ontario next year.

Camp should be very competitive next year which is a great thing. Best performers should be rewarded with NHL games, that's the bottom line for me.

July 1 will be very boring for us. I assume there will be one UFA defenseman signing. Either Lewis re-signed or one depth forward signing. Then one or two depth signings for Ontario.

That's going to be it.

I gotta say, for how pessimistic this board usually is, the 6-game win streak and the emergence of Anderson, Vilardi, Frk, etc. has made this place much happier to read!

True! Even Trevor Moore is looking good and playing very well. Love his skating, tenacity and has decent skill. Noah Clarke used to get more press for being a local kid, but was really not NHL level player...but Moore is actually looking like a fit and can play. There should be more local press for him, I think. It seems he was a throw in to help make the cap work for the Leafs, but honestly he's legit and can play.

Moore is a very gifted stickhandler and has the creativity to match his soft hands. Has excellent hockey sense and likes to generate offense from down low, especially from behind the net.
