I think the vets who are remaining have been energized by the influx and increased playing time of the young talent. I know we like to shit on the high paid players on the team, but they're talented and not washed up yet. The plan for the last couple of years was to offload a bunch of vets who had been "blocking the path" of some of the younger players and that's been happening as of late. This was the season to jettison a lot of the roster players (the FO specifically pointed this out) who had grown stale here and accumulate picks/prospects while clearing the way for pipeline graduates to step up and step in.

Now you've got Vilardi, Mikey Anderson and Peterson getting nice large cups of coffee this season and looking like they've got futures in this league. It also allowed for bigger roles for players like Lizotte, Roy and Walker, who account for 1 freaking draft choice and barely that (a 7th!). These guys are legit NHL players who practically cost zero draft capital. They are here to stay and take up little salary cap space, which is what you want. Compound this with the top ranked prospect pool which is only going to get deeper regardless of where the team picks in the first round this summer, and things are starting to look up. I really think Bjornfot is going to get his shot as Drew's partner after his excellent season in Ontario. Grundstrom is going to get his shot as he's waiver eligible next season. The opportunity will be there a couple of other kids from the pipeline to surprise and earn roster spots.

I'm hopeful this won't be a Buffalo or pre-McDavid Edmonton constant rebuild situation because the Kings underlying numbers are good. The Kings are back to being one of the top possession teams in the league after being a bottom third shooting gallery for our goaltenders last season. The team is also no longer dead last or second to last in PK/PP%. They're sitting at 25th on both, which is still bad, but not worst in the planet bad like earlier in the season. Does this suck for The Tank that the Kings are winning now? Yes, but at least the winning is happening with young players getting opportunity and contributing to wins. It's important that these young kids experience being part of a system that seems to work rather than getting their teeth kicked in night after night like last season and being skated off the ice most nights. The fortunate thing is that the other bottom feeders are winning just enough to stay in front of the Kings. That's having your cake and eating it too.

McDavid and the Oilers didn’t have a core already in place.

I still believe in Kopi, Drew, Brown, and Quick honestly.

Lewis seems to be an old dog 4th liner LA likes in that group too.

Carter is no slug but he seems to be 20-20-40 guy at best at this stage of his career. Not a huge issue except on cap. They haven’t missed a beat without him tho.

Not as sure about Quick, Brown, and Carter, but at worst they're contributing players lower in the lineup who have been there before in terms of experience. I think Kopitar and Doughty are still among the best in the world; Doughty is a bit more troubling because he seems like he swings wildly based on how the team is fairing, but if we get more young, talented players to support him as we have been, I don't doubt he'll back among the top D in the league. He's just so damn emotional that he does too much if he feels like he doesn't have a supporting cast, whereas Kopitar is almost on the opposite side of the spectrum in that he's a horse no matter who he plays with haha.

I hate this about his leadership, but I think that as long as we have at least a bubble team and he's playing with someone like Bjornfot instead of a rotating cast of losers like Hutton and Ryan we'll see the great version of Drew Doughty back again next year.

How is trevor moore doing? Always loved his forecheck and constant hard work.

i think he's doing alright, probably suits the direction this team is going. bottom 6 has been kinda fluid but seems he gets work with vilardi and frk most often lately

not sure i want to grade off production yet, but he's been decent on checking lines and his forecheck balances vilardi well imo

this is the defense we will see next year . Clague is waiver eligible and we need offensive defenseman like him on the team. Players like him are more common now and Roy has solidified himself as a top 4 dman so far and Anderson seems to be doing just fine . Bjornfot is excelling and players all around the league making the jump much faster is going to be in effect here as well and I think we see him up. Also look for Moverare and Nousianen to be on the reign next year . They are my dark horse picks to be steal of the drafts for us .

Carter as a bottom 6 center for us will only pay dividends and will give us a better chance to win a cup . I might be to optimistic but I think our Kings win a cup in next 3 years . I like TMac and our prospects . Kempe has also really come around the second half of this season and I think he breaks out next year . I’m not even going to try to guess the lines for forwards because too many possibilities, but I think we don’t see Wagner or Amadio on the team next year .

Clague is waiver-exempt next year, so he may still be in ONT. He'll need to make the team, as would Bjornfot. Anderson looks like he's ready. It's been published the Kings are looking for a veteran LHD on a one or two year deal, that's likely what will happen. Amadio has a one-way NHL deal next season, he's likely on the team, even if it's as an extra. Moverare and Hults likely go to ONT, and maybe even Nousianan, he may stay over one more year, we'll see.

Story of the year. Matt Roy. This 7th round pick is so flying under the radar, ESPN still thinks he's a LW in the box scores. After a rough first week, Roy has been nothing but gold overall. All of this for league minimum for this year and next season. . He has the 2nd pair right defensemen locked up. Looks like he pairs well with Mikey. If I'm the Kings, we start talking contract extension with term after July 1st for this just turned 25 year old. There is enough sample size here (92 NHL games) to show he has the right stuff. He was the best defensemen in ONT the year prior, and has not been scratched to my knowledge since he was called up last season.

Did you know he
1) Leads the team in plus/minus at +10 (all players combined are -156)
2) Leads the all Kings players in Corsi (CF% and CF% rel)
3) Plays 18 mins a night and gets PK time.
4) Leads all Kings players in blocked shots.
5) Leads all Kings defensemen in hits.
6) Is tied with Kopitar in team goals for per 60 min at even strength when he is on the ice.
7) Leads all Kings defensemen in the least goals against per 60 minutes at even strength.
8) Leads all Kings players in defense point shares (DPS).
9) At or near the top in pretty much every metric and fancy stat category that players are evaluated upon on the Kings.

his first week or two were sure ugly. Glad he has turned it around. Fair a guy needs to adjust

If Amadio were waived tomorrow, I don't believe anyone would claim him. He's taking up a roster spot that we will need. Lots of the youngsters are using the current opportunity to earn a role for next season. Amadio has not. I hate to be mean or react too soon, but this guy has had his chance and fallen short.

Like you said, his puckhound ability and his speed are great. He's been playing the PK recently and has been solid. Only faults I'd say are some of his plays at the defensive blueline. Some bad passes, chipping out when he had time and space to skate it out. Happy with his play overall though.

For who exactly? News Flash... none of the kids were good enough to take a spot and still arent. JAD isnt physically mature and is looking more like an energy guy, Kupari blew out his knee and will be delayed a year, Fagemo/Thomas/Kaliyev/Turcotte/Madden/Dudas have yet to play a pro game, Grundstrom has been injured but has yet to take advantage of his call ups... So whose this young guy that needs the spot and is a center??

This season, you are correct, although I would sit Amadio when Carter returns. Next season, I would be disappointed if none of our prospects could beat MA out. You can't tell me this guy has given any indication he is part of the future (which is looking brighter every day).

Amadio needs to either to wake up or get an ass kicking because the kid has talent but his confidence seems to be in the dumps... I did not like his body language after he blew that shootout opportunity.. Seems to have a why me thing going on there

One of the reasons I thought he'd be so successful after juniors was his assertiveness and imposing will on the game

Here there's a lot of sagging shoulder bullshit.

Kings might have a chance to have 4 players with 20+ goals (if Carter comes back), first time since 2015-16 when Lucic scored 20  (looking at that roster...:help:)

Roy with +14 is a

Could it be that we now have a significant sample size with 146 games played and only 37 points? Maybe, he's just not good enough. I'm not an expert, but it looks to me like some of the youngsters are getting better while MA stagnates. I guess we will see what the coaches think when Carter returns.

It's possible, but he's been a slow developer at every level. I think it would be a mistake to give up on him already, but he absolutely should sit for a bit. He's about the only one actively getting worse.

Without Roy and Walker, the Kings D would be crap.

It's basically Doughty and Hutton as the vet's - Roy, MacD, and Walker as the younger bridge players with 1-3 years of NHL experience and then the youth of Anderson and Clague. Bjornfot in probably in the next wave of young players.
