I don't really disagree, but I think he should be removed, not replaced. And 5 leftovers is plenty given those guys were the ultimate core, if they can't take ownership, we're screwed anyway. 5 guys--covering every position. That's an entire forward line, an all situations d-man, and a goalie, covering almost a quarter of the current roster. Don't need more than that imo.

I won't be super mad if he's signed for a year or anything and I'd probably prefer that over a UFA (though gimme Clifford over Lewis pls) but we've got enough 'locker room leadership.' If anything, we need a vet dman badly, not a depth forward.

I don't think we do have enough locker room leadership, not with 5 guys out of 23 that they carry, but I also believe you can never have enough.

All I am saying is that wishing Lewis gone, to be signed by a different UFA for a year or two, is a lateral move at best......

IMO Stoll had the ugliest skating stride. How he made that work, Ill never know.

The article is about how the Kings responded to the trade deadline aftermath, but this photo is the best  :

Your point is fair. The only thing is if they want to change the culture on a more fundamental basis. In that case a vet from outside the organisation would make sense even if the on ice role is the same. I have no idea what things are like in the room but a lateral move would indicate the need for further culture change, whilst resigning Lewis would show they are happy with the leadership group.

I have already said I tend to think moving forward and not looking back is better. I think that new faces and ideas, as long as they are the right people, are ultimately only positive. If we can move on from most of the old core my instinct is to do so wherever possible, but I fully recognise I don’t really know much about the reality of it.

From an on ice standpoint signing a veteran D is definitely more important.

Trading on ice performance for locker room leadership is not a particularly good idea. Moreover, the current Kings' locker room leadership is just fine. This woefully untalented team shows up for virtually every game and is hardly ever out of a game. Have we already forgotten about the leadership heavy teams from a few seasons ago that rarely showed up, usually giving up a goal on the opponent's first shot?

Back at 'er; Tuesday morning lines and quick notes - LA Kings Insider

Vilardi playing on a line with Lewis and Moore. Please send him back to Ontario ASAP.

Moore isn't bad. He has speed, can make some plays, and actually has some skill but Lewis.... ugh.

I don't care if Lizotte is better defensively (right now) and has been playing well lately (I mean who cares about losing at this point anyways, we need to lose). Vilardi is the future. Give him a top 6 role/minutes or send him back to Ontario, it's pretty simple.

He played 7 minutes last game......

Vilardi's played a total of 90 games in the last 3 seasons. 38 of those have come in the last 3 months. 16 games left in the NHL season + AHL playoffs.

Low ice time on the 2nd of a back to back is fine, if he's still playing sub 10 minutes 4-5 games from now then he should probably be sent down.

Stoll should be in charge of goal celebrations, he had some great ones. (even when he didn't score them)

Stoll had some decent success in the shootout for a while with his wrist shot aimed at the crook of the arm on the goalie's glove side. Plenty of steam on his wrist shot.

NHL estimating next year’s cap will be $84-$88, up from $81.5. Not that we’ll need it, but the Kings should have a lot of cap space.

Yeah, I remember he had a ridiculous run one season with that exact move. Feel like he was 9 for 10 or something crazy like that.

Hopefully use it to stockpile prospects.

Forget if it was Luc or Blake that said after the deadline that the team is pretty much at the point in the plan where they are done stripping pieces, and now it is about developing and adding to the team.

Clague? Turcotte by a long shot but a big growth off-season could do the trick. His 200ft game is capable enough for 3rd line minutes next season.
While the Kings are in their rebuild, being good enough as a prospect should not be enough to earn a spot on the roster.. The Kings have the luxury to be patient with Turcotte and wait until hes ready..
As for Clague, I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone that thinks he's ahead of either Toby or Mikey. Matter of fact, both have a better 2 way game right now and will only get better. I've thrown out the idea that if the Kings see a young player they like they could start a package with Clague and JAD... But thats just my idea..

I would be onboard with this sort of mind set. LA has a lot of prospects and not all of them are going to pan out. Package two maybes (with a potential high ceiling) for a forsure (with not as high of ceiling but a more likely one) sounds good to me.

Kasperi Kapanen anyone..... Maybe, just maybe.. jump the gun and make an offer to the TBL since they'll be in a cap crunch and we can land one of their guys??

I wanted LA to trade Muzzin before hte expansion draft for Kapanen freeing protection for McNabb (Kapanen did not require protection). I even started a thread about it and Leaf fans thought they were fleecing LA and a couple even offered Kapenen plus 1st.

Probably should let that go, but just felt like a no brainer at the time.

I would be curious to see the floor. Kings might have to sign a couple of free agents to reach the floor. Next year's cap is at roughly $60 million. Kings don't have many RFA's, really only Walker that would deserve a significant raise.

Stockpile picks or prospects with the extra cap space. Anymore Marleau contracts out there?
