I think my math is correct. In the last 104 games:

Without Kovalchuk(23 games):
11-8-4, 93 points over 82 games
64GF, 2.78
64GA, 2.78

With Kovalchuk(81 games)
29-46-6, 65 points over 82 games
193GF, 2.38
271GA, 3.35

I have to think it's a bit more complicated than this. It is adding it up after a 4-1 stretch, 4 of the games at home, which is 131 points over 82 games, so, it might be a little unfair. They were 7-7-4 in the 18 games without him last year though. Not that that's a good record, but relative to 24-35-5 otherwise, it's better. They're likely not that much better without Kovalchuk, but the record in the 81 games with him isn't a good one. The 2.78 GF would still be bottom 10 if you isolated the 23 games relative to the rest of the league over the last 2 years, but the 2.78 GA would be top 10.

you have to assume the NHL and Kings want the fans to buy these.

How many of these jerseys are you going to see at Staples? over your lifetime? I'd say less than 10. Great job designers!! :thumbd:

The Blues wore some throwbacks last night and everybody around the league was talking about how great they looked. Is anyone even slightly excited by anything the Kings have been releasing? They've all been so uninspiring and monotone.

How damn tall is Jeff Carter? Anze Kopitar is listed as 6 foot 4..

This right here is why he's led the team to cups. I don't think he's a superstar at all, I think he's an excellent player who understands his strengths and plays to them, rather than trying to do things that he's not the best at. He's never going to put an emphasis on stats, he's always going to be about winning where it counts. If you asked Anze, I doubt he'd give two ****s if he was the best on his team.

I can see how some would view him as an underachieving superstar, I view him more as a guy under that level who elevated his game and did what was needed for the team to win when it counted most. I think it's a little unfair to say he settled for anything, he's one of the dominant defensive centers of his era without sacrificing scoring.
As long as we're on the Kopi's Awesome train, let's recognize that he played well enough to win two Conn Smythe trophies as well. Always shows up in the biggest moments and does everything he can to help the team win. There's no way the Kings win either Cup with any other player on Earth. You want to see a leader lead? Go watch any game in the two Cup runs and you'll see Kopitar doing everything on every square inch of the ice.

Team player and leader. Dependable. Strong. Smart. Makes his teammates better. These are the marks of a player you want on your team. I'll take Kopitar over Seguin or Matthews or Gaudreau or Stamkos or Draisaitl. In the end, it's not about the points. It's about winning.

They should be wearing the Chevy logos jerseys for stadium series game, not those mock up if they are for real. I know they're going to be wearing them a few times this year.

When he breaks his stick, fans on here deride him for it. He can't win.

The problem with that is it happens after an ENG with 30 seconds left in the game. It is also not physicality directed at the opponent but rather breaking an inanimate object. It's like the most passive form of aggression he can show. If you are hoping to see him be fiery and inspirational physically, that ain't it.

He's not Wendel Clark or Doug Gilmour. Hell, he isn't Toews or Crosby when it comes to captains stirring things up from time to time. It's just not who he is. It's fine when they are winning but it can irritate people when they are in last place.

Back to my original post: I thought he was great last night and I would chalk it up to being across from McDavid. He will step up to what he perceives as a challenge but will be more passive when he doesn't feel challenged. That's kind of this leadership group though even when they were winning: talent will win out but then they put themselves in a hole because their talent couldn't win out on its own. Once challenged, they all stepped their games up to another level. His 2018 season is a product of this: they got Sutter and DL fired and I think they felt bad about the latter. He's coming off a bad season and people are writing him off. Feeling challenged, he just went bonkers that season. After proving he isn't washed, he then starts last year horribly because he isn't challenged again.

I'm encouraged by what I see from him since everyone knows this is a lost season but I like his effort much more than last season. He is extremely important to the future of this franchise as the possibility of him being Joe Thornton-esque (as an age/production comp) with the Kings hitting on young center prospects is the best we can hope for with this contract. It's great to see that he doesn't look old and slow at this point.

I do rag on him from time to time because I have high expectations for him. I've had seats since 2001-02 and he's the best player we've had. Any criticism levied on him doesn't mean he sucks. Guy is a stud.

Really hoping that Forbort is able to come back and plays well. Bigger SAH dmen are wanted for the playoffs and he may be able to fetch another pick or 2. Not saying he's worth a 1st, but a 2nd+ isn't absurd.

I’d be happy with a 3rd tbh.

So it sounds like Lewis is nearing a return. As things stand I’m not sure how you’d justify putting him back into the line-up. He’s lost a step and if you add him to the roster he should be behind Kovalchuk in the pecking order, which I know won’t happen. I’m ok with him being the 13th forward as it’s better than having one of the kids sit, but that then further reduces the chances of moving him.

I’m sure he will play though, so hopefully Carters resurgence inspires him.

Apparently our stadium series jersey, I know you're all shocked, more black & white:

****ing hell...
Nice to know we hired a high school student that just learned how to use Photoshop in their computer graphics class.

Like, I'm not even kidding. You could watch a YouTube video on PS and make this **** jersey in one day. Wow, two blocks of black and white. Two letters, some lines. Genius!

Man, the Kings leaked outdoor jerseys are getting ripped all over social media. I wonder if Luc/AEG are aware of how bad some of their decisions have been lately. I do know that Brooklyn got fired recently, so maybe they are making some changes behind the scenes.

Let’s look at it another way...

Maybe the Kings realize nobody gives a shit about this game. And figured they’d burn one of the shit designs they have been sitting on, rather then waste quality design.

If these are the sweaters for the outdoor game, then it's pretty underwhelming. But on the other hand, cant wait to see the team in Colo Springs in Feb at the outdoor game in person.

Kopitar is without a doubt the best player the Kings have ever had in terms of talent. I just wished he would impose his will on the opposition on a more consistent basis. He is at times too willing to be a passenger and let the bus be driver-less, or driven by less talented players. I think as Lombardi built the roster he went out and got players like Greene, Stoll, Mitchell, Williams, and Richards. These are guys that when the chips were all in the middle of the table wouldn't let anyone slack off.
