Of course they can. He's not coming back after next year anyway. The roster today doesn't matter. They have so many random d-men, that you trade Martinez if the deal is right, call up LaDue, stick him in there somewhere, and who cares.
Which is the value in LaDue I guess, you trade Martinez and let LaDue come up rather than bring up a prospect too early. LaDue won’t be here much longer, but can eat some minutes short term.

Also when Forbort gets back it would then make a trade viable also.

They've been trying all week to spin his words around, like asking him about what it takes to win a Cup. When he gave his answer, they instantly spun it towards, "so you're talking about the Leafs"...

And of course , Jeff Marik couldn't make it through a Sportsnet show without taking a shot at the 2012/2014 Cup wins calling them "the slowest team to win the cup in the cap era".Once an asshole, always an asshole! How'd those speedy Canadian teams do again ?

Marek has made me stop listening/watching sportsnet. He has a higher opinion of himself than anyone else involved in hockey and at this point just uses the show as his new podcast. When he interviews anyone he basically just spends the whole time telling that person his opinions and why they are right. Seriously, his interview with Lou Lamoriello last year was just f***ing embarrassing, he basically was acting like he was teaching Lou about hockey instead of f***ing asking him questions. Now that they have gotten rid of all of the interesting personalities(Maclean, Kypper, Colby, etc.), I don't know how anyone still watches that drivel.

I actually quite liked the Martinez-Doughty pairing. Very steady, each player using his strengths. As an indication of how poor Doughty has played, Martinez and Walker are the only players who Doughty has a >50% goals for % 5vs5 with this season. Walker has only played 1:30 with Doughty so, not much to go on there.

I actually liked it too. I like Hutton with him too.

 best description of the Kings I've seen this year.

"do A, B, C, and who cares."

Nope, we never did. It was practically the only configuration we didn't try, and now it's much, much too late for that.

What is this about?

When the Kings lost to Vancouver 8-2 earlier this year, Doughty was pissed and said they shouldn't have lost to a team "like that." (They shouldn't have lost so badly).

A Vancouver reporter took the quote out of context and quoted Doughty as saying they shouldn't have lost to a "team like that" (i.e. Vancouver is so bad the Kings shouldn't lose to them).

People and media went crazy, and even Vancouver is piggybacking on the quote and making "Team Like That" merchandise.

So Doughty's saying "We don't want to talk with you if you're going to misrepresent our words."

The actual quote:

"Drew Doughty, on whether it was hard to “park” Tuesday’s game and emotion:
I mean, I ain’t going to park it. It’s just embarrassing. I mean, a team like that should not be beating a team like ours 8-2. There’s actually no way. I know they had a lot of energy right off the bat because it’s their home opener and they had their whole ordeal with the captain and whatever. But we had chances to come back, and then we just gave up a goal right after we scored a goal. It was a bad team effort by everyone on this team, I thought."

The focus is obviously on the Kings' performance and losing so badly, but Vancouver desperate for narratives after Calgary and LA actually have things.

The worst part was that the Vancouver reporter who pushed the initial outrage initially wasn't actually there in the post game media, yet used direct quotes to put words in Drew's mouth that he never said. He was promptly called out by numerous reporters, including Lisa Dillman, but once something's out there, it's hard to reel it in.

Ferraro continued pushing that false Doughty narrative last night on the TSN feed. Ray was actually really f***ing annoying last night.

Eh, that is kind of a dig at Vancouver, not unwarranted as they've been rather garbage the past few years. But using hindsight to imply that Vancouver was actually a legit team, thus an insult to be referred to a "team like that" is weak, particularly for a game at the beginning of the season. I had the same sentiments as Doughty after the loss. But after 15 games, and watching Vancouver play against the Blues, they're definitely not the team which I (and probably a lot of people at the start of the season) believed Vancouver to be.

I do agree that Doughty was taken out of context but as usual he chose his words poorly as well. If he said "ANY team should not be beating a team like ours 8-2" making it more about how bad the Kings played instead of how good or bad the opponent was, this would have died a quiet death.

Exactly, the paraphrase in direct quotes was garbage, then he doubled down on it.

The great majority of the quote--and the other ones around it--was about the Kings and their 'embarassing' performance. It takes a completely selective usage of words out of context and some serious martyr syndrome to make it about Vancouver.

Boiling an entire interview down to an out-of-context one liner is absolutely misleading and Doughty has every right to be pissed about it. He doesn't need a bullshit reporter pandering to the lowest common denominator messing things up for him. Dude says dumb shit all the time and has no reservations about it, so manufacturing dumb shit is infuriating.

It was a back-handed dig at Vancouver that didn't age well considering Vancouvers performance so far. This was said, whether or not you need context is kinda irrelevant. He could have said the Kings sucked without mentioning Vancouver at all. Is it an attempt to make Doughty look stupid? Yeah. Did he look stupid for saying that? Yeah. Is it a big deal? Apparently it is cause Vancouver and Kings fans are all about it. I see it more like Kubalik...ie....who. gives. a. shit.
