When the Kings keep signing them there is always "next man up". Prior to Kopitar signing I was all for moving him and keeping Carter. Unfortunately, injuries have led to Carter being a player who is not aging well.
When have you ever advocated moving a vet? Muzzin was an obvious move last season, so I don't think he counts.
Brown is a guy I don't mind keeping. His work ethic is outstanding. Last season I thought there were a few teams out there who should have inquired about him at the deadline, especially Tampa Bay.
Why do you think there has to be an immediate replacement in the system before a player can be traded? You find a way to get a serviceable vet if you don't have an immediate replacement. They're called "fillers" for a reason.
I love how advocating trading a vet doesn't count just because you want it to.
But I have advocated trading Martinez since the Kings traded for Sekera. I advocated trading Toffoli since the Kings were eliminated by Vegas in 2017, because he has failed to be the next wave of leadership.
My message is fairly consistent. Young players have to earn a spot, and they have to be able to fulfill a role. Not trade players where you're giving spots to prospects before they're ready.
If you don't have the ability to draft or develop replacements, you need to fix the infrastructure before you worry about personnel. Once that's established, then you can develop your prospects to replace the vets you need to trade away.
It's a straightforward and clear message I've been saying for years.
