Wagner was the 99th player taken in his draft. While it's not unheard of for a guy taken in the middle rounds to become a quality player, he's always had his speed right? If he had high end talent to combine with that speed, he would've been at least a top 5 pick. As long as we keep the expectations around 99th pick expectations, then I think we can be happy with Wagner. Go back and look at the 99th picks over the last few decades. Wagner, as is, is one of the better ones.

If he ever becomes more than a fast checker, it will only be a plus. Laperriere once scored 140 points in junior. It was in the Q, so maybe a bit inflated, but not everyone on his team was scoring 140 points. He was the 158th player taken. Keep the expectations realistic, and Wagner is fine.

Not only was he a 4th round pick, he was also a Dean Lombardi era pick. So I’m sure Dean was creaming his jeans enough to move up in the 4th round to get Wagner. In Dean’s vision he would have replaced Dwight King or Jordan Nolan as a heavy checking 4th liner with blazing speed.

So, Wags skating has intrigued Rob Blake enough to be patient and see if they can adapt him to the newer style he envisions.

Hopefully Toffoli’s hat trick gets the attention of some desperate teams.

Some people are saying the 2020 draft is one of the deepest drafts in recent memory.

I hope that's true. After Amart/Lewis/Toffoli are moved, I expect the Kings to have 6 picks in the first 3 rounds of the draft.

One GREAT draft can set your franchise up for the next decade. Like the 2003 draft did for the Ducks landing Perry/Getzlaf.

I think he'll probably get a conditional 1st.

If Blake can't get a 1st round pick without conditions (yes, that's a high price for a potential 6 week rental + potential playoffs) for Toffoli, I'd really like to see if they can target a D+1 or D+2 prospect that they like, or a change of scenery player who has something to prove (think EDM). A late 2nd round pick is not very enticing (yes, maybe he can get a late 2nd that's a conditional 1st if Tyler can stand on his head and rub his stomach at the same time, you get the point, but the conditions will be difficult to achieve since he's a rental). There have been no public reports of discussions between Toffoli's agent and the Kings (not that it's not possible that they have talked), but hopefully the Kings at least have an idea of what Toffoli is looking for contract wise. Tyler will get paid on the open market. The UFA crop this season is pretty poor overall. He will be 28 next season, so his next deal will covers his 28-32/34 year old seasons. 4 years would be ideal for teams, but he'll want more term. I'd love to get an asset, then if they can work out a 4 year deal again in the off-season, more power to us, if not, good luck Tyler.

2 trades I'd like to see happen but won't. We can all dream a little.

1st trade
To LA
Connor Timmins
2nd or 3rd round pick 21

To Colorado
Alec Martinez

2nd Trade
To LA
Keifer Bellows
2nd or 3rd pick 20.

To New York
Tyler Toffoli

Supposed to be one of the deeper drafts in 2 decades, and they'll get higher picks in a deep draft for those 3? Lofty expectations.

Florida is in a desperation mode because they either go all-in and try to fix their issues or they punt and sell. I agree though that they are probably after Martinez and are not going to give up.

Andy Greene just got a 2nd and prospect from the Islanders. Marty should at least see a similar return, hoping a deadline bidding war starts.

They got a former 7th rd pick from 4 years ago, and a 2nd rd pick in 2021. I don't think Martinez is bringing back the moon, but context is important.

That's an overpay for a 3rd line pairing guy who is 37. You have to think that Vatanen and maybe Dillon could nab a first. I think I would rather get 2 2nds than a late round first for AMart in a deep draft.

Quenville was the 30th overall pick, and a 2nd is a 2nd.

If that's the floor, we're sitting pretty.

Edit: just kidding, wrong Quenneville I guess. Why is there more than one anyway?

We already have 4 picks in the first 3 rounds. I don't think it's unrealistic at all to think the Kings will get two more after Toffoli and Amart are moved.

Q. What did Sekera cost the Kings when he was traded out of Carolina?

(Not exactly the same scenario either... Marty has an extra year at a super reasonable salary cap)

I’m not against taking 2021 picks also, it may be better to stagger the pipeline a little and they’d still be valuable assets to maybe help us move up if needed.
