If you can believe it, Wyshynski reported that the Flyers are also looking at Carter

C’mon Philly, you know you want him back.

Could be that Toffoli might be headed to Philly? Hexy was in FLA last night ...

Los Angeles Kings

Ron Hextall, now an employee of the Kings, is in Florida scouting Flyers-Panthers on Thursday night. The Kings have been scouting the Flyers frequently, but Hextall’s presence takes things up a notch. No one in L.A. knows Philadelphia better than Hextall and the team would likely not make a move without his seal of approval. Perhaps they will get that nod from Hextall on a potential return for Toffoli after tonight’s game.

How do you scout a team for draft picks?

There will be an uprising on Broad Street...they hated him when he was good and scoring 40 goals! Wait until they see his 65 mph shot, his lost 5th and 4th gears and cannot / will not pass to his wingers.
Wow. The main reasons I am not driving 45 miles South to see the Stadium game tomorrow? I do not want to pay $150 to see Carter, Lewis, and Wagner.

the hate on these boards for wagner - the youngest and fastest player on the kings - has reached critical mass

Really?? Just because 1 poster said they don't want to drive 45 miles and pay $150 to watch him (and 2 other players) and another poster (me) in another thread left him out of his completely fictitious projected forward lines for next year??

Seems a little dramatic to me...

Hahahaha no no that's alright. I just haven't seen anything else about him that could be considered 'hate' on these threads recently.

You have to understand why he's a pretty frustrating player to watch most nights. I'm just tired of being half asleep watching Kings games then thinking "OHHHHHH WHATS THIS?!?!? A BREAKAWAY?!?!?" Just to watch the guy fire the puck a foot wide or shoot it straight into the goalies chest.

But you're right he is VERY young (and fast) so we probably should cut him some slack. It's just frustrating at times because he's kind of a tease.

I’m a fan of Wagner even if this is all we ever get out of him. Tons of speed, always chirping, throws hits. For a fourth liner, that all sounds pretty great. If he can learn to slow the game down a bit, he could be a really great player in the league. Especially if he got a chance to play with some more skilled players.

As it stands, last year’s 21 points - in only 62 games - is the the third-best rookie season for a Kings player since the last cup win. Iafallo is second with 25 points in 75 games. Kempe is first with 16 goals and 37 points in 81 games.

At an NHL game? What B-level prospects were playing for the Flyers last night?
I edited my post to add a couple of things. Not every player on the Flyers roster is a great NHL player. There are other reasons to be there as well, such as talking to scouts from other organizations. He may have also hung around to watch the Flyers AHL affiliate while he was there.

I don't think Hextall is wasting his time by being there.

Wagner's failed breakaway chances are one of the most exciting things this team provides.

He isn't the 18% shooting percentage guy from last season but he also isn't the 2% or whatever guy from this year. If he tops out at around 8-10 goals from the 4th line while also tossing at least a couple of hits per game, why are we upset?

I defend Lewis to the point that he played for both Cup teams, provided big plays in both runs and because 4th line guys don't generally pop in 15 goals and 40 points. They are 4th or 3rd line for a reason. Now, his time has clearly passed so I'm not defending him being in the lineup now but I will say that his career high in goals is 14 and it came in what you could say was his 7th full NHL season. Wagner had 12 goals in 62 games on a trash hockey team last season. He's a 4th round pick while Lewis was a 1st round pick.

Anyways, I don't think that calling a 4th round pick "the new Trevor Lewis" is an insult since the old Lewis has made crucial plays in some of the greatest moment in Kings history and has won the Unsung Hero award numerous times. I mean, getting a guy in the 4th round that is equal to a guy that was a regular player on the best Kings teams of all time while being universally loved by his teammates and coaches is pretty damn good. We will be lucky if that is what he tops out at and even luckier if he is better. As it stands, he's already basically matched Lewis's career year as a rookie in fewer games and ice time.

If you want to insult him, call him the new Craig Johnson. That guy was a constant reminder of how bad the Gretzky trade was, all speed/barely any finish, killed Deadmarsh and now coaches the Junior Ducks.

Agree 100%, except CJ works for the Kings

I think @BigKing has it covered but if you have a 4th liner with the capability to even GET those breakaways to keep the opposition honest, you're in a good spot.

I think the frustration comes from we want him to pot a few more and personally I think we stunted his offensive IQ but putting him in the show so fast instead of giving him top six time in the AHL but if he is what he is that's all you can ask for a 4th liner (except to develop more defensive responsibility as well but that will come).

Wagner was the 99th player taken in his draft. While it's not unheard of for a guy taken in the middle rounds to become a quality player, he's always had his speed right? If he had high end talent to combine with that speed, he would've been at least a top 5 pick. As long as we keep the expectations around 99th pick expectations, then I think we can be happy with Wagner. Go back and look at the 99th picks over the last few decades. Wagner, as is, is one of the better ones.

If he ever becomes more than a fast checker, it will only be a plus. Laperriere once scored 140 points in junior. It was in the Q, so maybe a bit inflated, but not everyone on his team was scoring 140 points. He was the 158th player taken. Keep the expectations realistic, and Wagner is fine.

Wagner still has room to grow and it’s not like we have fleet of foot line mates to compliment him. He forecheck hard, gets chances and once he refines his game should be a defensive monster because of his speed to get back and forth fast and disrupt the plays. He is not scared to throw a hit and he is still the youngest pup in the lineup.

We need all different types of talents to make a team whole.

Remember with as much talent as the Oilers has Gretzky wasnt just flanked by Kurri, Sather added guys like Semenko and Tikkanen some years as they could play a specific role. Wagner has the skills to play that disruptive role and pot some points on the bottom line.

Wagner has some grit to his game too -he can fight. I like him - he just seems inconsistent. He should add hitting to his game so he has speed, hitting and fighting.
