That Cernak deal is still one that defies logic. There is nothing to explain it that makes sense other than a desperation move by a GM that is seeing the end of their term.
Desperation move? for a RENTAL backup goalie? I defend Lombardi on plenty of occasions, but this is the worst deal he's made in his tenure. Lucic, Sekera deals made SOME sense due to the type of players that were acquired. Cernak was NHL-ready was at the time of the trade, which made even less sense. This trade is going to hurt for quite some time.

Pretty sure Bishop was meant to replace Quick or be a 1A 1B situation.

Could be that Toffoli might be headed to Philly? Hexy was in FLA last night ...

Ron Hextall, now an employee of the Kings, is in Florida scouting Flyers-Panthers on Thursday night. The Kings have been scouting the Flyers frequently, but Hextall’s presence takes things up a notch. No one in L.A. knows Philadelphia better than Hextall and the team would likely not make a move without his seal of approval. Perhaps they will get that nod from Hextall on a potential return for Toffoli after tonight’s game.

Definitely a strange deal in the moment. Also turned out weird in that Fuhr stunk in LA then rebounded immediately for the Blues the following season; I had forgotten Fuhr got run in that playoff and it was Jon Casey in net for the memorable Steve Yzerman series clincher.

Not sure how much of it was urban legend, but apparently Zhitnik had some run ins with the local Russian mafia. So sending him to Buffalo was almost done so that he couldn't anger the wrong people. Boucher was 21 and a recent first rounder, although I don't remember how people felt about him in 1995. He did breakout later in his career but unfortunately for the Kings, Boucher was able to exercise Group V free agency and signed with Dallas.

Boucher had a bit of the injury bug and didn’t put everything together until his last season in LA, and of course the money grubbing Kings’ management let him walk as a UFA right as he found his stride as a physical dman with a heavy shot. Not only was the initial trade infuriating, but letting the one valuable asset they got from it go for nothing, and to a division rival, was just as upsetting.

If you can believe it, Wyshynski reported that the Flyers are also looking at Carter

Nobody was banging the Cernak drum at the time of the trade. LaDue was untouchable while there was no hype around Cernak.

At the end of the day, Lombardi doesn't scout everyone and make moves without input. I feel that Management soured on Cernak. They were obviously wrong.

Cernak threw shade at the Kings last season, I believe, and it wasn't the standard chip-on-the-shoulder-for-trading-me variety. Would be interesting to know what was going on there.

Horrible trade though.

Lewis would be a good depth addition for the Caps. They aren't looking for scoring, they are looking for a forward who is responsible in their own zone.

It would be encouraging to see Hextall involved with any deal involving the Kings and the Flyers. I trust Hextall's talent evaluation skill. He knows which young players in the Flyers' system the Kings should be considering.

He's not a source I usually count on, but Fletcher has been looking for a 2/3 C to support Couturier and Hayes. So there are a few out there , it's a matter of the price. And Carter wouldn't cost them much and his wife is from Philly, so he does have family here.
LeBrun mentioned Pageau , Nate Thomson, and even Trevor Lewis. Sportsnet said Bonino and Eric Staal. But the do feel that's a need. Nobody they've rotated has lasted long and they really feel that they are playoff bound and need a veteran presense there.

They are also looking to get a top 6 winger, and that is why I think Pageau might be at the top of their list.

He's got a very sharp eye for talent, the Flyers farm system is paying the rewards for that nad the young talent now on the team are as well. I think there is a good trust factor between the 2 organizations, and a fair deal could bne had. Also, he does know the farm system and a good deal now keeps the door open for future deals.

Lewis, Carter, Toffoli, Martinez - if Blake is able to load up on picks for the 2020 and 2021 draft by trading away those players I'd be f***ing ecstatic.
