So just to be clear, it's also Blake's fault that Lombardi refused to trade Kubalik for four years? We don't even know what came from Kubalik's camp during that time. How do we know whether or not Kubalik and his agent were saying "Yeah, we'd love to join the team once our contract in Europe is over." The only facts we know are that the Kings offered Kubalik an entry level contract, he said no, and the Kings traded him to at least get an asset back.

At least we got SOMETHING for Kubalik. Unlike...

Trade Jazz Hands anywhere else but Vegas.

Will forever be grateful to the guy and would hate seeing him wear that uniform.
While I’d normally agree with you, in this case, if Vegas gives us a 1st round pick for him, I’d be ok with dealing him to the desert.

No, TG has legit sources and has worked for at least 2 NHL teams. He stated one of his contacts told him about the TT deal talks with the Canes and it involved a #2 and conditional #2 if he signed there.
He also said it was contingent on the Canes moving a forward out to clear space...and that it could happen within 72 hours...looks like the Canes did not move a forward out.

Lol.

What, no one on here has ever worked in the NHL? TG is well known here and retired in 2014..and by and large, stopped posting after the second LA Cup.
I do not want to post stuff he PMd me, as I won't do that...but he has worked for the Isles and Jets.

Eklund also claimed to have worked for NHL teams before his real identity was outed and he was proven to be full of shit.

TG has been posting here for as long as I have, which is 12 years now. He's 100% legit and provided proof of his credentials via PM to a lot of people that asked.

He certainly may. Like I said, I just have personal reasons for harboring some skepticism.

deal for toffoli in the works. if it is going down it will happen in the next 72 hours. draft picks in return. rumor is a 2nd in 2020 and a conditional 2nd in 2021. Pretty good haul. I talked to my friend in the canes org and he said they are working on the deal.

I know I don't post much anymore but I am still a died in the wool fan of the greatest team in the NHL.

Oh and I am a Kings fan too!
jk

I edited. I posted before reading the above post or the prev page. I guess you guys have heard about Toffs already. Canes are looking to move a winger right now to make room then the deal.
Called BS on this, not because of your info but because Blake and Co really seem like they’ll be holding on to Toffoli til the end in hopes of drumming up a bidding war or a frenzy happens... Kreider and/or Pageau might not be moving so that leaves Tyler, Zucker and maybe Rakell available as impact additions..
Also, you should definitely post more info on here... the guys miss that!

I recall him posting here more frequently years ago. I don’t doubt he’s been involved in the pro game. Pretty interesting that he would come on and chime in. Appreciate it.

When I’m at the arena, it’s enjoyable talking to scouts and such involved in the game and getting to opportunity to pick their brain regarding certain things. For the most part, these people are quite accessible and don’t mind taking a few minutes to chit chat with you.

OT, I once worked for the Hamilton Bulldogs (AHL) doing video work, I was the camera man responsible providing the game footage to the coaching staff and then editing game tape once they decided what footage they required. Pretty cool gig when I was younger however, the pay left something to be desired.

Got some good insight regarding the ins and outs of the game from the coaching staff.

Rumors don't really mean much anyway. There have been a lot of legit deals that fell through. We pretty much know what Toffoli will go for. Two second-round picks would be a good deal. Especially if there aren't any conditions. My guess is Toffoli does go for two seconds, but I bet we trade Martinez (who has a year left on his deal) with retention and maybe another piece for a first. Maybe Martinez and Campbell?

This is true. I even spoke with him once, as he was retiring in 2014 and came out to Colorado and he was looking up in Leadville as a possible place to retire...and we were going to try and catch an AVs game here. Couldn't make the game happen and he ended up retiring elsewhere. He's been around junior and pro hockey all his life.

If a general manager is mulling over a trade, he's going to speak with his various scouts/coaches to get their opinion's on the relevant players and what other moving pieces may need to be worked out. It's entirely possible that his opinion or the general discussion has changed from the time he talked with his first staff member to the time he talked to the last staff member. Even if you know one of these "first degree" staff members personally, they may not be up to date. It could easily be something the GM pondered for an hour or two, asked a few people, and then dismissed and moved on. So by the time this first degree staff member tells you, and you tell someone else, you could be 2-3 days behind and this doesn't even factor that the other organization involved may be constantly changing their minds.

These are fluid situations, the further the information gets from the source (the GMs) the more inaccurate and outdated it is likely to become.

If a GM isn't constantly having conversations about who's available on which team, what his team needs, what other teams need, how his players doing, etc. etc. then he is not doing his job. All these conversations lead to potential rumors. Half the league's GMs have probably talked to their scouts about Toffoli, and have a general idea of what Blake might be looking for. But all the Toffoli conversations league wide are going to result in just 1 Toffoli trade. So rumors are going to be wrong far more often than they are right, even if they are legitimate conversations, from legitimate sources, and legitimate posters.

I really miss his posts around here. TG was always super insightful and good addition to this board. I wondered what happened to him.

Like the time they told you to keep the camera pointed at the ice and not the bench. That kind of advice?

100% concur and corroborate. He's legit. HF used to vet the sources of 'insider' info thoroughly (not sure if that's still the case, I'm much less involved) so let's just say there's a reason he's allowed to post what he posts. I know the common rebuttal is 'but Eklund' but there's also a reason he gets his own prefix, lol.

Of course my endorsement is probably a death sentence for credibility so sorry :P

Which about nails it. Anyone that's been in a negotiation line of work realizes how quickly these things can change and that we're not typically privy to these details. It doesn't mean the info as presented is wrong, it just becomes outdated quickly. And let's be real, it's not like TG ever posted anything like "WOW BLOCKBUSTER" sensationalism, it was all very fair and reasonable and he didn't stand to gain anything from it (clicks).

Per TSN, kind of what we know already..
On the Market

It appears the Los Angeles Kings are ready to part ways with defenceman Alec Martinez and there's no shortage of contenders looking for blueline help.

TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun wrote Monday in The Athletic that that Martinez, who is signed through next season at a $4 million cap hit, has been made available.

LeBrun notes that Martinez should be appealing to teams in need of defensive help considering he can play at both sides of the ice and a two-time Stanley Cup champion. He points to the Carolina Hurricanes, Colorado Avalanche and Winnipeg Jets as teams who could who pursue the 32-year-old.

Martinez has one goal and six points in 29 games this season while averaging 20:58 of ice time. LeBrun cites an Eastern Conference team executive who believes the return for Alec Martinez could be a second-round pick and a prospect.

Same article, regarding the Avalanche and their potential search for a goalie (Queen Henrik mentioned as well)...

"Chambers argues that goaltending "is the Avs’ only glaring issue" and the team is without a short-term solution in the organization. He notes the team could also pursue Los Angeles Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick, but he's under contract for another three seasons which could prove problematic in the future."

I wonder with the Habs fall from grace and getting Scandella has taken them out. They have been all over A-Mart for a while
