So remember when I said Gus is probably asking for at least 5x$7 from the Hawks? Esa Lindell just signed 6x$5.8 which bought out a year of RFA. 7 per will be light for Gus if puts up another 50-60 point season.

body of work is bigger for Lindell, Gus doesn't have that leverage...I think thoughts of $3 mil are gone though with the way contracts are going up, but no reason to think $4-5 mil for 3 years can't get it done.

Lindell is younger but has put up .25, .34, .39 PPG seasons. Gus has put up .34, .46, .76 seasons. There's no way in hell he's signing for $5 mil a season. Freaking Brendon Dillon is going to get 4-5 million this off season.

Lindell has another full NHL season under his belt, people aren't sure what Gus will be and if it was just a fluke...I wouldn't compare the two apples to apples is all.

I was going to point out that there's not really all that much of a difference. Lindell is younger and basically has one more season of games under his belt, but his points totals aren't better. I don't see Gus taking only 3-4m in any way. He's going to want 6+, particularly if they wait, and he replicates last season.

there are people calling Gus a power play specialist, Lindell is better away from the puck. you know where I stand when it comes to Gus, I think he is better overall then people give him credit for, but I just am not sure how he can demand anything over $4.5 mil right now based off of an excellent 60-70 games offensively..

people were upset we resigned him for $1.2 mil just prior to last year lol..

Right now, yes. My post said if he replicates last season, if the Hawks don't extend him this offseason. Then he'll command 6+.

agreed, but Illini is saying that Lindell right now impacts Gus and his contract for today...I see it like you do, if he duplicates it this coming season then look out, but for right now Gus is not getting that same contract Lindell just got - today..

I just said that is what Gus would ask the Hawks. Not what the Hawks should do. If I'm Gus I'm certain I can put up at least 40-50 points next season and thats going to get him a lot of money.

which is why I think Gus is going to bet on himself and not sign this summer. he looked good so far at the WC as well, I believe he hits 40-50 points next year and he likely does as well - that just makes him unaffordable for the future, or someone else would need to get moved out.

Agreed which is why I'd trade him at the draft and try to get a top 6 prospect or young player.

I wouldn't trade him at the draft, his value is only going to go up if he repeats next year - move him at the deadline if it is obvious that he will want too much money to stay here.

And if he struggles next year he wont have much if any value

If a team offers a good deal the Hawks should pull trigger

I think teams would pay more now because then it allows them flexibility in free agency and they get him for a full year as opposed to a couple of months.

But what if the Hawks are in a playoff race? Doesn't make sense to trade him at that point.

I agree. Honestly, the best option would be to try and lock him up to a solid deal this offseason. Like AD said, 3x4.5m or something. That way he still has good value, and if the Hawks don't move him prior to the TDL due to a potential playoff run, he still has value to move him in the offseason next year.

I am only giving scenarios for those that want him traded, I personally do not at all...if the Hawks are in the hunt then he needs to stay 100% and figure out a deal for him..but for those wanting to trade the guy, IMO his value will be more next year at the deadline opposed to this coming draft regardless of him being a UFA next year.

Yeah, Gus's value is probably the highest it will ever be, right now. It's a tough situation no matter what side of the fence you are on with him.
