If the Habs are looking to add any further 1st round picks, they ought to be in 2019.

Yeah it is pretty soon, will have to wait and see, but I thought he looked better than Kotka at WJC18.

He surely looked dynamic and all but he didnt control the play near as good as Kotkaniemi. They are also both 17 years old.

That's the impression I've been getting, that there's a ton of [top-9 F / top-4 D] gems in the first 3-4 rounds.

I think Im gonna stick to the draft threads for the next couple weeks. When I saw the trade rumors with Arizona on twitter I thought we were going to get Arizona's 5OA or 2019 first round. Can't believe we did Galchenyuk for Domi straight up. Mindblown.

Kotkaniemi will probably stay in Liiga next season and by the time next season is over, Bergevin will be gone. I'd put money on it.

Theres a few I love in this draft.

I still love watching Kuznetsov, Barkov, Kane, Keller, Mackinnon, McDavid, Wheeler and a few others.

But, I have 0 expectations for us at the draft. My fandom has been crushed the last 3 junes, I just cant take it anymore.

Same. I think this is the beginning of the end for me. Ill like Domi, I love Price, I love Mete, Weber, Gally... but watching talent that has a chance at greatness is always better.

I'm so sad to come into this thread on HFBoards, it's the one place I can usually rely on not being a total negative atmosphere. I understand everyone is sad but man I hate seeing others sad or mad cause it just brings my mood down.

I hope we can still enjoy the draft as a fanbase, it's literally my most anticipated night of the year. I have no one IRL to share it with and so HFBoards has become part of that night for me, and so I hope everyone can still enjoy the night so it'll at least be a positive experience.

Don't worry just gives us more reasons to have a great draft party. Besides, everyone has been following these prospects all year. A lot of draft junkies on this board.

I know I want to know who goes where. I don't just follow it for Montreal although I always hope for the best as far as their drafting goes.

No, you start to develop favorites & you want to see which teams they go to.

It'll also be a last hurrah before the truth hits us hard in October.


Montreal will take one of Zadina, Tkachuk, Kotkaniemi, Hughes or Dobson. Those are the 5 we'll choose from.

It's clear that we are taking either Dobson or Kotkaniemi, and both of them would be great pick. Zadina is overrated by many, and there is no way we should draft another left-handed winger (which Tkachuk and Zadina are). Although I like Kotkaniemi, I think we should draft Dobson for the following reasons. Center and RHD are both high-value positions and position of needs for the Habs in our team and prospect pool. No need to explain for the center position, but people wrongly assumed that RHD is not a need for us. Weber and Petry are in their thirties (and they will likely be traded soon as we are/should be clearly rebuilding), and while Juulsen could be a top 4 d , I think we will be lucky if one of Brooks, Fleury or Lernout becomes an effective NHL player. Dobson would almost guarantee that we have a #1 RHD for 10 years. This is as priceless as a first-line center.

Next year, the draft will have the strongest crop of centers in the last ten years if not more. This will be the time to pick a center. With that draft pick and Poehling/Danault going forward, we will be in good shape regarding center. What we should do is trade one of Weber now for a young solid LHD prospect (e.g. Sanheim or Hanafin). This would ensure a bad season, therefore setting us up perfectly for the future after we take Dobson this year and a highly-regarded center next year. You then still have Price and Petry as trade chips to properly close the remaining gaps in the lineup.

When I heard about the Subban trade I had tons of the negative emotions.

Last summer I had tons of negative emotions at what MB did.

When I saw the Chucky trade I thought bad trade, what else is new.

I realize I expect the expected, crap.

To paraphrase Thanos, the inevitable is upon us, no matter our hopes and beliefs of what should be, no matter how much we argue and fight it, it is coming and there is nothing we can do about it, we are helpless.

So I expect nothing good now. The expected. So if something good happens, yay.
