I get this and largely agree, but how old were the last X 4th line centers employed by the Bruins? How about those we considered good?
The comment wasn’t about having good prospects it was about good drafting. Pulling Lohrei and Poitras out of the second round is excellent drafting.Based on what? Their drafting in the last 5 years has netted Lohrei and Poitras. Maybe more eventually from the likes of Lysell and Brunet but there's no proof there yet. And even with the other two, while I think both are NHL quality, the jury is still very much out on where exactly the land as players long-term - both have some significant challenges still to overcome. Sweeney's best drafting patch was in 2016-2017, other than that it's been pretty sketchy.
I've actually defended the overall record in the past because their sheer lack of high picks has made the task very difficult, so it's hard to expect too much more. But to therefore say that what they've done is "pretty good" is too far for me. I'd rather call it "understandable".

Locmelis and Svedeback in the fourth are very good picks. Pelosi in the third is a very good pick. Brunet and Jellvik in the fifth are very good picks. Duran out of the sixth is a very good pick. And Loke out of the sixth last year already looks like a steel.
Letourneau and Lysell were chalk picks - all the people who want the Bruins to draft by some mythical board should back those picks.
Taking an educated guess is cool. But was there one human being on the planet not related to either Nosek or Kuraly who thought they were any good or had plus hockey IQ when they were 23? Maybe Don Sweeney, when trading for Kuraly, who still didn't really play in the NHL until he was 25.There is that- Nosek and Kuraly come to mind as good in that role and yeah both a few years older than Nosek. I just don't see any signs of Beecher getting to even that level at this point. Lots of people here talk about poor hockey IQ and in many cases I think it's an unwarranted charge, but in Beecher's case, it really does seem to be an issue and I don't know how much of it is correctable.
If you’re even going to compare the two then yeah probably. Is it too soon to point out that Letourneau has yet to score a goal in 22 games, and the guy drafted right behind him (Greentree) is 2nd in OHL scoring behind only Michael Misa.
Sweeney has made 54 picks.20 have skated in the NHL.They have played over 3ooo games & gotten around 1000 pts. Most experts would say he did very well but here we are with a broken roster. The comment wasn’t about having good prospects it was about good drafting. I was DL I would have played elsewhere to get more minutes. He is barely getting any mins on a loaded team.Practicing with them though has to help so kudos to that.Way to early to go there yet with Dean.Lets rehash him in 2 yrs when we should have way better viewpoint on him.Is it too soon to point out that Letourneau has yet to score a goal in 22 games, and the guy drafted right behind him (Greentree) is 2nd in OHL scoring behind only Michael Misa.

are very good picks or steels. It’s just pure speculation on your part, as there’s no certainty that these late round picks at this point in time are very good picks or steels. Sure there’s a chance down the road that they could be, but there’s also the chance they will not be.

Come on, man. You are defending Sweeney's drafting by pointing out several players that haven't proved one way or another that they are good picks. That dismissive 'ok' bullshit is just a poor look towards a guy that is having a good faith discussion with you and just happens to have made a really good point in the process.

How do you judge drafting unless you go back to 2019 then? Hasn’t stopped people including that poster from evaluating the Letourneau pick.Come on, man. We all have picks we like at the time and think they will be good, some we get excited about during the development process and vice-versa. To actually judge drafting though, at least for me, is exactly what you said: go back to 2019 and see how the players have turned out.How do you judge drafting unless you go back to 2019 then? Then how can anyone say any pick is good or bad then? Take it out to its logical conclusion. We all have picks we like at the time and think they will be good, some we get excited about during the development process and vice-versa. I mean you can say that, sure, and how he is performing at UMass seems better than expected as a 4th rounder. That’s fair. I guess it depends on how we define a good pick. For lower round guys, most of whom never make it, performing well enough to get NHL contract probably qualifies as a good pick. At the end of they day though, we can only really judge a draft record by the number of guys that actually play in the NHL, and a good pick to me is a guy the plays in the NHL at a level more or less consistent with where he was taken in the draft. So Frederic is a good pick to me, Carlo and McAvoy great ones. Beecher, a meh one, etc. Then how can anyone say any pick is good or bad then? Take it out to its logical conclusion.
Its not a stretch to say Locmelis was a very good fourth round pick
Once they’ve made the NHl and have a credible career then one could say that was a very good pick, but saying 6-7 players who have yet to prove anything we’re very good picks and a steal is wishful thinking and far from being concrete. Then how can anyone say any pick is good or bad then? Take it out to its logical conclusion.

You actually point to, but don't explicitly state, the big takeaway. I don't think anyone at all would care even a smidge if John Beecher got moved and turned out to have a Nosek/Kuraly career after. There will surely be the stray HFBoards lunatic, calling the move a vile black mark for whoever trades him, but good luck to his therapist.Sure, if you think the Bruins should keep running Beecher out there night after night to do generally jack shit until he either "gets it" or doesn't, then okay. Speculating that Beecher is going to be like Nosek and Kuraly is cool too, but so far he isn't and isn't really doing much to help a team that already has too many passengers.
Dom flat out laughed at some salary prediction site that had Beecher at $2m next contract and said he gets his qualifying offer, take it or leave itYou actually point to, but don't explicitly state, the big takeaway.
