Confirmed with Link: Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee traded to Calgary for Andrei Kuzmenko, Jakob Pelletier, 2025 2nd, 2028 7th

Your Bee hate is consistent, I'll give you that. I disagree, but I appreciate the sincerity.

I'd bet more on Farabee having a bounce back, than I would on Frost being much more than he is now. And that's ok.

This part is not directed at you, rather the folks who insist that Frost hasn't lived up to the expectations. Can we remember right quick that Frost went 27th OA in his draft? You know who went 20th OA in his draft? Future team President Scott Laughton.

Has Laughton met expectations? What did people actually expect out of a late 1st rounder? I'm going off of memory, but I'm pretty sure realistic projections were 2C if he hit his ceiling. Floor of a good middle 6 guy.

The only people who pumped up Frost into a star, were people who came to believe their own strawman arguments when arguing against people who just wanted him to have a legit shot to stick and play over "vets" he was better (and had more upside) than.

Tl,Dr: Neither of these guys have been stars, but this team out thinks itself when they get that kind of return, and thinks they made out somehow.

Farabee #14
Laughton #20
Frost #27

One of these things is not like the other. Only one is a f***ing Flyer
Oh sweet summer child. Draft comparison for Laughton was Mike Richards and a certain poster on here posited that Couturier would be expendable because Laughton would be able to fill his role. I guess in fairness Couturier was being used as the 3rd or 4th line center, which laughton did fill. This poster though thought Couts would be expendable because he didn't think he was skilled enough. Argument was that he never eclipsed 40 pts.

This actually may have predated DH actually but the same sentiment applies

I remember the last couple years pretending it wasn’t a zero sum game with Frost and Cates….that Frost would lose. And this was when Gauthier was supposed to replace Frost too.

The Flyers are one of the most open book teams in professional sports. The truth is always staring you in the face. There is not a chance in hell that Cates isn’t signed to a $25MM deal soon.

That low??? I hope it's that low.

Boy, do we have the coach for these guys then!

Match made in heaven.

Since we know they only trade players Tortorella hates, it's hard to believe he doesn't get to Ok incoming players too. I wonder if he sits around finding players around the league that he despises and then demanding they be brought in for punishment

Another random thought (sorry if someone else made this point): it is interesting that with Laughton or Ristolainen, Briere's stance is that he has to be blown away by an offer in order to pull the trigger, but for two players whose age puts them more in Michkov's timeline, any half-assed deal will work.

And this is really why it's not a rebuilding move and cannot be. Any building move should be aligning with Michkov's prime. Kuz doesn't. Pelletier is a 3rd liner, so who gives a shit, good teams can find those (and of higher quality) guys anywhere by robbing bad teams like the Flyers. The 2nd in a draft that isn't looking too strong is unlikely to yield anyone who is going to be effective on the roster before 2032, and the 7th won't.

It straight up is not a building move.

Oh I get it. I wasn't posting back then, but I started lurking this board probably around 2013. Funny thing, I remember calls for Laughton to get a shot back then (not over Couturier specifically) but he had to "Earn it", "learn to play D" etc.

It's just funny to me that #27 Frost is a "disappointment" to a lot of the same people who totally support this FO, and by extension, their love of Laughton.

Credit to @BernieParent who brought it up earlier. Flyers are on record saying it would take a massive overpay for Laughton. Frost on the other hand...meh. Can you spare a 2nd and 7th?

Kuzmenko is a 29 year old rental. Re-signing him doesn’t exactly seem optimal either for contending or rebuilding, even if he does fine. It’s a doldrums move.

Pelletier was on waivers in October. How is it this team found a spot for Bellows, but didn’t like Pelletier enough to make a claim? But liked him enough to basically trade him straight up for Farabee or Frost? Do rebuilding teams — short on organizational skill, especially at center — trade better 24/25 year olds for worse 23 year olds? What about if the imagined timeline for contention is 12-18 months?

What’s fascinating is BOTH of these acquisitions could be positives in different contexts (salary dump, waivers, placeholder for Laughton). This is not the context! They somehow bought high on two no value/low value players!

Holy smokes. Totally forgot about that.

Honestly, I'm starting to think the joke's on us and deady has been right all along. Imagination Land beats the hell out of this reality!

It really feels like briere targets players that he has on his nhl 25 be a GM mode team that mid 60’s ratings and low cap to fit on his stacked team, but feel like they play well above that

The thing is that you're talking sense. Remember the season trailer? Nonsense is what this franchise delves in.

Oh you mean the season trailer where it's about time the Flyers get back in the hunt. This is the hunt they were talking about, drafting 13-15th overall and getting another non-impact player because you know we ain't drafting guys who don't grind and check. Briere is a big a coward as anyone in the organization he'll do exactly what Bobby tells him to do and do it with a smile on his face and continue to sell the fans wolf tickets.

Just the one where they quoted that hack Charlie about how the Flyers' org is just so damn random and it just "works."

It's a lost franchise.

The authentics think we're really in the hunt though, those are the ones still buying tickets and Flyers gear so they are the only ones that matter.

It's like they spit right into the fans faces raising ticket prices, and the authentics opened their mouths and drank said spit.

I became a fan when I was just a kid in the 90's and seeing where we've been to where it is now, it's literally hard to believe.

So it seems like they really wanted Kuzmenko...I just dont get why? 1 month isnt going to be enough time to increase his value and flip him, but hes a UFA. Hes also not a guy I see Torts liking.

Is it to help attract that KHL player theyre linked to? I just dont get it
I would be impressed if Kuzmenko was a means to an end, but this is a franchise that has trouble with 2D checkers. Prove me very wrong, Danny, and I will stop reevaluating my sports life choices of the past 5 decades.

Even if you believe you can turn Kuz around AND turn Pelt into a reliable guy, you STILL traded away better players to take that risk and that risk is worth way more than a 2nd and 7th.

You still traded away a guy who was a 50 point guy last year and your leading C scorer this year....oh and your youngest!

This move is like the hurried screeds that drug addicts scrawl on urinal dividers in Circle K bathrooms. It's a thing you glance at and forget. Not something you put actual thought into. Just marvel at it and nothing deeper or your brain will crack.
