I think this deal sets up a Zadina at 3 (to replace Galchenyuk) and then Pacioretty for Kotkaniemi deal (with spare parts to fill it out).

In some time we could see a top 6 of

Drouin-Kotkaniemi-Zadina
Domi-Poehling-Gallagher
If they don't think Domi can replace Galchenyuk...... Than why did they make the trade...:dunno:

You’re assuming Bergevin has job security beyond next season. Luckily, we have a better development coach and by the time new prospects graduate to the NHL, there is a likelihood that it will be under a new GM.

How confident are you now that the Habs should be making deals at the draft?

I'm never confident with Bergevin at the helm, the only time he has proven to be okay is at the deadline. All other times he's completely terrible..

and I don't think a new GM helps, Molson is still the owner and his interests lie too much in pacifying the local francophone market due to their impact on his beer sales. We need a true owner that wants to win, until then, we are going to get Bergevin and Therrien re-treads.

I would have been fine with Boqvist at 3 until I heard about the concussions. Now its either Zadina, Dobson or Kotkaniemi for me.

I hear you, just saying the particular player taken at No. 3 (if not dealt to Detroit for the rights to Kris Draper) is important, but Bergy's other moves carry a high potential for disappointment.

Who are teams going to worry about from distance? Weber.

There's no one-timer option on the half-wall now with Galchenyuk gone. There's no one that goalies have to beware from distance.

Like even if you look at it as if they were trying to build a team to win, which they think they are but they're doing the opposite, the pieces don't fit.
Zadina.

It's definitely not bad... + you have no idea what Zadina, Kotkaniemi and Poehling will develop into. We also don't know how Domi will perform on the Habs. You definitely don't have the right to say that's not a god top 6 just yet.
Unless you're expecting all of Kotkaniemi, Poehling and Zadina to reach their max potential, Gallagher to remain a 30 goal scorer and Domi + Drouin to break out, it's not going to be a very competitive top 6. Add in our weak defensive future and there is no bright light about this team.

Lies. Hughes is good defensively. Not great but good. Was one of the best plus minus players on his NCAA team..... How does that happen if he's a bad defensively pp specialist like everyone that doesn't watch him stereotypes him as?
Totally agree about the progressive coaching/ management though.

Yeah, I think people who don’t watch just label offensive, slick skating players as automatically bad defensively.

Hughes is decent enough defensively but sure, he needs more coaching and seasoning. I don’t think he’s ever going to be a shut down guy of course, but I wouldn’t be scared to have him on the ice in key situations.

From the guys at FinnProspects

“Kotkaniemi is skilled, hard-working and mobile forward who still needs to bulk up and improve his skating. He showed really good work ethic and excellent vision in U18 World Championship as a center and I would like to see him playing in that position next season.” -Asko Huuki

“The total package with terrific vision and passing skills. Highly competitive, physically strong and defensively reliable. Skating needs some work, but it won’t hold him back in the NHL.” – Marco Bombino

“Kotkaniemi has all the tools to become a dominant yet agile and skilled centerman who is constantly ahead of his opponents in the offensive zone. His offensive game is close to elite: he can shoot, make plays and generate offence at a high rate by himself. He also uses his stick and positioning effectively while back checking.” – Markus Suhonen

“A very complete player with no real weaknesses. Skating used to be a concern with him, but it’s good enough to not hold him back from making a career as a top-6 center in the NHL.” – Miika Arponen

After today (Galchenyuk trade) I think we draft Quinn Hughes. They are looking for speed and youth

Markov - Russian: gone
Radulov - Russian: gone
Sergachev - Russian: gone
Galchenyuk - Russian: gone

Yeah, he's drafting Tkachuck before he ever looks at a Euro like Zadina.
Galchenyuk is American and considers himself as such.

But whatever suits your agenda.

But what does Bergevin/Julien consider him.....;)
You can say that Bergevin royally screwed up negotiations with Radulov and Markov... but to claim that he's let these players go/traded them due to their place of birth is dishonest and downright childish. Radulov and Markov were played extensively by Julien and he clearly respected them far more than Galchenyuk.

This org & coaching staff values character, work ethic and attitude above all... Hence why they get such a hard on for Weber.
