We just traded our only center for another winger. Kotkaniemi checks both boxes.
But Bergevin stated that Domi has high end playmaking skills, and the fact that his game is more than goals. I'm sure he knows that he needs a scorer. I'm not saying Zadina is 100% the guy we take, your guess is as good as mine, but I think it makes Zadina at 3 not out of the question anymore.

I think this deal sets up a Zadina at 3 (to replace Galchenyuk) and then Pacioretty for Kotkaniemi deal (with spare parts to fill it out).

In some time we could see a top 6 of

Drouin-Kotkaniemi-Zadina
Domi-Poehling-Gallagher

Rebuilding teams aren't looking to trade a high pick for a 30y winger with 1 year left.

I was driving home and thinking about the year, and the C's Julien had in Boston, Bergeron- Krejci in the middle, he has to be screaming for a C, to get 1 one way or another.

Not every team with a shot at Kotka is rebuilding. Chicago at 8 is a possible team to draft him.

He's getting ranked top5 these days, Montreal has nothing at C today, if Bergevin is betting on changing it by drafting Kotkaniemi and expecting he a) drops to 8th and b) Hawks try to compete with this core one more time how confident are you with it?

Hawks are in a place where they should re-tool their u25 group, quite badly. They are where Boston was few years ago.

I mean it was pretty obvious that I was working under the assumption he was there at eight.

Pretty confident. As a bit of a recent development, we have it on pretty good authority that Jesperi has questionable hockey IQ. Can't argue with this guy - he's from Pori.

The point is how can you built your plan around that? Pre draft Bergevin has no idea how the draft will go after the pick 3, and Kotkaniemi is getting top5 hype by sir Bob.

It's so damm risky for a team with the worst C group in the league to built their pre draft fix it plan around picking Zadina at 3 and then seeing Kotkanimi drop to 8th and get him via trade with the Hawks.

If anything you build the plan to draft Kotkaniemi at 3 and then trade Pac for the highest pick you can get and pick the best prospect at that spot.
You then know you have a potential answer to your, by far biggest weakness, now& longterm with Kotkaniemi and get another potential elite prospect to add to your W or D-prospect pool.

You could walk away from the draft with potential #1C and top pair/top3 D-man.

Him being from Pori is a huge negative.

You can say that Bergevin royally screwed up negotiations with Radulov and Markov... but to claim that he's let these players go/traded them due to their place of birth is dishonest and downright childish. Radulov and Markov were played extensively by Julien and he clearly respected them far more than Galchenyuk.

This org & coaching staff values character, work ethic and attitude above all... Hence why they get such a hard on for Weber.
Maybe they should value, being good at hockey. I couldn't care less if they're punching cabbies and running around town with prostitutes, as long as they are winning. It's a hockey team not a fan self help group!

The ''muh zadina bpa'' posters have been totally unable to consider the possibility that there will be amazing wingers or LD available later in the draft.

I have read that somehow the trade makes Kotkaniemi at 3 more plausible. I see it the other way. I think Zadina is more plausible. We need goalscoring and Zadina does that.

Yup & he slots in nicely on the RW with all these LWs around too & will probably take Chucky's spot on the RW boards on the PP with Drouin setting him up.

I feel like they've already decided he's the guy so they decided to move Galchenyuk to make room. Bergevin hates scoring depth, so we couldn't have both on the team.

Drouin in. Radulov out.
Zadina in. Chucky out.

I'm really expecting us to take Zadina now.

For similar reasons, I'd love for us to be open to hiring an Anglo coach and GM.

Best management available regardless of language. Hire a full time translator to appease my fellow francophones who care so much about the french language if needed.

That's more like Oulu kind of guy.

With 1 good C prospect and multiple good D-prospects I'd try to get one of each, but maybe it's just me.

What's the plan to fix the C then?

There isn't one at #3. We go into this season with: Danault, Drouin, de la Rose & A. Shaw as our centers.

We draft at least 3 centers in round 2.

Hope that Bouchard can develop one or more of Evans, Alain, Vejdemo or Verbeek into NHL centers. That Poehling continues to develop into a #2 center.

We suck this year and draft our #1 C in 2019.

Zadina replaces Galchenyuk this year. I mean it's 19g & 51pts that we have to replace.

If Zadina can do that then we've added 45pts to the team offense by acquiring Domi rather than getting worse offensively.

I'd be pretty stoked to pick up Boqvist or Smith or Hughes and Kotkaniemi. In the event that we can't pick up another top pick, I'm all in for Berggren.

I hope we draft Hughes. Way it is going our first pick next year is going to be a high pick. Good chance it will be his brother. May good building blocks

McKenzie pretty much confirmed he's gonna be in his top 5.
Where did he say this? He had Kotkaniemi at 19 in his mid season rankings. That is a huge jump for Bob to make.

Hossa? Speedy defensive winger..... Ummmm no.....
Kotkaniemi has more chance of being Toews than Zadina has of being Hossa.
No, you never seen him play. Kotkaniemi's skating is 2 or 3 years away from NHL caliber

Kostitsyn had health issue, not the case with Kotkaniemi...
That was suppose to be a non-factor. Same guy who drafted Kostitsyn is still drafting. Scary?

He was 10th pre-lottery.

Huberdeau and Scheifele were huge risers at the same point.
From McKenzie?

That list has 1 C, and it just shows the problem Montreal is looking at for years.

No one should look at Zadina and think what he could do next year, it's not about next year with Montreal, they are a team who should rebuild. I also highly doubt he could put up points next year with the group Monreal has today.

There could be a damm good C at 3 this season, 2nd round picks need a miracle to become saviours.
Especially with the lottery no one can tell where Montreal will be picking next year, maybe they are at 10 and looking at non #1C prospect, (and even if they are picking higher that pick isn't quaranteed to become a #1C).
Then it's another year of oh dammit and 2 years from this point.

Finnish meams are a hoot.

That one took a bit of a sad turn. The guy died a few months after the original video. It went viral and the internet in Finland turned on him. He even released an apology video to try and cool things off.

Finnish memes are also tragic. Such is life.
